Terri Schiavo Finally Succumbs to State Sanctioned Starvation

Rest in peace Terri. Rest in Peace.

1 I knew that two minutes ago...

But seriously, it was a terrible way to go, but it was her time to go. It's been her time for quite a while. My only question is, what lost cause are the protesters going to latch on to now?

Hector.

2 A proud day in our nation's history.

And stay tuned for the differing versions of her death. She died "peacefully", or wracked by convulsions and death rattles.

Of course, all the nurses are bound to silence so we'll never really know.

So, me friend Mahmood and Sallama have a bet that you filthy Infidels start knocking off your retarded and your old people next. I say that handicapped orphans are next but Mahmood and Sallama insist it is the old and infirm.

Who do you think will win eh filthy Americans?

7 Nice job, actus. Once again you and your ilk can't let go of the fact that your heroes lost the election and that your liberal beliefs are in the minority.

I challenge you to view the audio that is making the rounds of Terri's father asking her questions and her answering them with a 'yes' or 'no' and come back here and explain to us how that, somewhere inside her brain, that there wasn't some bit of life in there. I'm sure you liberals would have been screaming bloody murder if one of your own like Christopher Reeve had his feeding tube removed. Does it help you sleep better or accept it more easily because Reeve could carry on a more intelligent conversation than Terri?

The letter of the law may have been followed, but to allow someone who stopped being her husband many years ago, even if not legally, to order her extermination is morally wrong. I hope the autopsy shows that he put her in the position she was in. How neat and tidy that the very night that she went home to ask for a divorce coincides with her being in a coma the next day.

8 Slug in no way can you compare terri to Christopher Reeves. I would love to view an audio (recently now ) of her answering questions. Im sorry but this woman has been dead since 1990.

9 Libs are degenerate deathmongers. They demand the right to murder their babies and those they deem unfit for life.

Terri is just the beginning. Soon libs will be looking to those handicapped in State Hospitals who are unable to care for themselves. The libs will demand that these unfit for life types be put down.

Filthy, degenerate liberals will be judged one day and they will all suffer. Count on it Libbies! Get yourselves right with God.

10 Should have put a pillow over Supermans face years ago- He couldnt feed himself so, whack him right?

I think that Steven Hawkings should get his tube out now that I think of it-

What about all them tards living on the welfare in the State Hospitals..... Starve them like Terri. According to the libs, the goofy bastards will feel nothing.

16 TWO QUESTIONS REMAIN, AND YES, I AM SHOUTING:

1) HOW CAN A HUSBAND WHO COMMITTED ADULTERY AND TOOK UP WITH ANOTHER WOMAN AND FATHERED TWO KIDS, STILL HAVE LEGAL RIGHTS TO A WIFE WHO IS INCAPABLE OF TAKING CARE OF HERSELF, AND FURTHERMORE, WHY COULDN'T THE SCHINDLERS DIVORCE SCHIAVO ON BEHALF OF TERRI, AND TAKE LEGAL GUARDIANSHIP OF HER?

2) HOW CAN THE GOVERNOR, PRESIDENT, WHOEVER, GRANT A PARDON FOR A CONVICTED MURDERER, YET BE TOTALLY POWERLESS TO HELP AN INNOCENT, STARVING WOMAN?

I NO LONGER HAVE ANY FAITH IN OUR GOVERNMENT, THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM, EVERYONE WHO ALLOWED THIS HORRIBLE, UNSPEAKABLE, MISCARRIAGE OF JUSTICE!!!!!!!!!!!

NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE FEELS ON THIS SUBJECT, THIS HUSBAND IS A BASTARD WHO INITIALLY REFUSED TERRI COMMUNION, AND FORBADE HER OWN PARENTS FROM BEING IN THE ROOM WITH HER WHEN SHE FINALLY EXPIRED.

YOU CALL THIS A LOVING HUSBAND WHO ONLY HAD TERRI'S BEST WISHES AT HEART? WOULD TERRI WANTED TO HAVE SPENT HER LAST TWO WEEKS ON THIS EARTH, STARVING AND THIRSTING TO DEATH? I THINK NOT.

PEOPLE, IF SHE DID HAVE IT IN WRITING NOT TO BE SAVED, DO YOU NOT AGREE THAT TAKING TWO FULL WEEKS, STARVING TO DEATH, WAS CRUEL AND INHUMANE? PEOPLE ARE ARRESTED AND PUT IN JAIL DOWN HERE IN TEXAS FOR STARVING THEIR HORSES.

JUST BECAUSE A JUDGE RULED ON THIS DOES NOT MAKE IT MORAL.

GOD HELP US ALL.

20 This unfortunate case of Terri Schiavo has brought forth a great deal of compassion and caring from millions of people concerned about the well-being of one individual.

Death is a natural part of life; every person and every living creature will die some day. Some die after a long, productive, and satisfying life, and others are cut short before their time.

Every day on planet earth, 29,000 children die before reaching their fifth birthday. Most of these deaths are of preventable. Pneumonia kills millions every year, yet it can be cured with a dollar’s worth of antibiotics. Diarrheal dehydration kills over a million children every year, and most of these lives could be saved if the parents had access to a ten-cent packet of oral rehydration salts and knew the procedure for administering oral rehydration therapy. Tuberculosis kills over two million a year, and is curable with a course of drugs costing just $10.

I hope that the outpouring of compassion for Terri Schiavo will be channeled, or broadcast, to the millions of children in the world living and dying in poverty, whose lives are needlessly snuffed out for want of ten cents’ worth of oral rehydration salts, a dollar’s worth of antibiotics, or a two dollar mosquito net that prevents the spread of malaria during sleep.

22 In America there is a young man in a nursing home, his brain synapses fried by his 1st hit of extasy at a dance club. This young man cannot feed himself, take himself to the bathroom, wash himself.....or hold a book up to his face to read. He can however commuicate by blinking his eyes. His mind partially destroyed by the missfired synapses has crippled him but somehow he is able to communicate.

Like Terri, he lives in Florida. I fear that a Judge in Florida will decide that his life is not worth living and starve him to death.

25 I agree with Laura!! This man lost the right to call himself Terri's husband years ago!!

Not only that but the Bible says God breathed life into Adam and he became alive....the life of a human is in the breath and the blood. Terri's blood circulated without artificial help...she breathed without artificial help...she was alive.

Who are we to know how god was ministering to her?? Are we now God?? What happened was that another human being was cruely and inhumanely starved to death! Laura is also right about our animals having more rights than this.

How many of you who so ridiculously compare the importance of someones life to a baseball season would yell in outrage over "cruelty to animals" and yet can't even feel at all outraged over the death of a humanbeing?!!

May God forgive us as a nation and have mercy on us. For we surely all need to repent over this horrible injustice!

31 The Catholic Church does allow for the death penalty in extreme cases. JPII has stated as much. There are no ex cathedra pronouncements on it, just opinions like those of the national Council of Bishops. So it is indeed a misconception that Catholics must be against it. Is it over-used? Ask the hundreds known guilt criminals waiting on death row for the last twenty years for their executions. I say if there's any doubt about guilt, free the person. Use it on the ones caught red-handed, in the act, and guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt doing truly horrible crimes. And we all know what they are.

41 Facing reality is not betrayal of faith
''Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him'' - Job 13:15

The tears surprised me. I pulled over, blinded by them.

The incident is sharp in memory because it was a turning point: the moment I finally accepted the unacceptable. My mom was going to lose her battle with breast cancer. She was going to die.

My sisters and brother had already come to terms with it. I was the one still clinging, stubbornly and defiantly, to an expectation of miracles. To do otherwise felt like a betrayal of my mother. And of my faith.

But that day back in 1988, acceptance finally forced itself on me. Cancer had made her a stick figure. It had clouded her mind with hallucination. And it had reduced her to a toddler, her hand feather light in mine as she tottered down the hall.

I left her bedside at a trot. Got in the car and drove until I couldn't see.

As you've probably guessed, I'm writing about Terri Schiavo, who died today. And I'm doing what I guess we all do when we contemplate her tragedy. I am personalizing it.

How can you not? On the one side, there is Michael Schiavo, ordering removal of the feeding tube that sustained his wife for 15 years because, he said, she would not have wanted to live in a vegetative state. On the other, there are the parents, Robert and Mary Schindler, begging in tears for their daughter to simply live, in whatever state she could. It is only natural to run such a painful conundrum though the filter of experience -- or imagination -- and try to tease out truth you can live with.

Here's mine. Acceptance is hard. Acceptance hurts like hell.

For as much time as we've spent discussing spousal rights, political opportunism and the meaning of life, I think that's the signature lesson here: Conceding the inevitability of death is one of the hardest duties of life. And maybe the longer you put it off -- the Schindlers and Michael Schiavo have been fighting for seven years -- the more difficult it becomes.

Which is why the denouement of this drama has been painful, even for those of us who were not directly involved. Watching the increasingly naked desperation of the fight to keep Terri alive came to feel intrusive and voyeuristic. You wanted to turn away, but there was no place you could go.

So you watched as the Schindlers strained credulity with claims that their daughter tried to say ''I want to live'' even as her feeding tube was removed. And never mind that, five years ago, according to a report in the Miami Herald, the couple openly conceded that Terri was insensate, her brain destroyed.

You watched as the Rev. Jesse Jackson, in a stunning illustration of the axiom about politics and bedfellows, spoke out on behalf of the Schindlers, a boogeyman of the liberal left making common cause with the religious right.

You watched as House Majority Leader Tom DeLay denounced as ''barbarism'' the removal of Terri's feeding tube and trampled the constitutional separation of powers with extraordinary legislative maneuvers to keep her alive, yet neglected to mention that he raised no similar objection 17 years ago when his father suffered a massive head injury and the family decided it was best that the elder DeLay be allowed to die.

You watched as people went just a little bit nuts.

And maybe, if you were the praying type, you said, Hey, God, how about a little help here? When should we stop waiting on the miracle? When is it OK to give up hope?

But God, as far as is known, kept His own counsel. Maybe He felt He'd said what He had to say 15 years ago.

Terri Schiavo's death, hard as it was, feels like mercy. For her and for us. Once again, we can avoid confronting our irresolute feelings and fears.

There is, however, wisdom here, for those to care to seek it. Roughly distilled, it goes like this: to face reality is not to betray faith.

God answers every prayer, a preacher once said.

Sometimes, the answer is no.

Posted by: Filthy Allah's ball Crabs at March 31, 2005 01:57 PM

43 Greg:

My understanding of the law Bush signed in TX was to allow 10 days for a patient-surrogate to find another institution that would accept the patient, after being informed by a hospital that the patient was going to be removed from life support, after a ruling by an ethics committee agreeing with the hospital in cases where the hospital and the patient-surrogate disagreed. The law was further amended in 2003 to include minors; the version Bush signed dealt only with adults. The effect is to provide families with a last chance to get treatment for a patient who is deemed by a hospital to be beyond hope, AFTER an ethics committee reviews the case, keeping the matter out of the courts to the greatest extent possible.

That's quite a bit different from the way you characterize it, isn't it?

Posted by: Jamie at March 31, 2005 02:00 PM

44 Drama,
That was very nice. This has been an agonizing ordeal for all of us.
I have in my possession a Living Will from my mother giving me the power to decide what to do when the time comes. It states that she does not want to be kept alive by artificial means. Even with detailed instructions provided to me it will be an agonizing decision when the time comes.
I think thhat people on both sides of this issue who are so cock sure of their position won't be so sure when they have to actually face this issue for real someday like Tom Delay did.

And when the 10 days is up what then? No hospital is going to pay for something they don't have to. It is in affect a death sentence for those without adequate insurance.

Posted by: Filthy Allah at March 31, 2005 02:22 PM

52 It wasn't state sanctioned. I can't believe how ignorant people have been on this issue. The state and federal govt only got into it because of her parents. We wouldn't have known of it if they didn't make such a fuss over something that happens every day in this country.

When you can Rusty, take a peek at her cat scans done in 1996 then figure the damage from there. Her brain was mostly black. Things could have been done differently if her parents didn't get the world involved. My theses in college was on euthanasia and it was a damn good paper. Did it in law, got an A, was told by the prof who was once a hard working attorney, that it was the best paper he had ever read in his 20 years of teachings.

Plus I personally had experiences with this issue and it is not an easy decision.

Anyway, I hope they all rest in peace now; her body finally where it should have been 15 years ago.

Posted by: greg at March 31, 2005 02:54 PM

63 The death of 5000 civilians in Habbala on the Iranian boorder occured in 1988. America was Saddam's ally and our position then was that the gas was from the Iranians. That Saddam ggassed his own ppeople is just a lie used to demonize him so that Ammerican mothers would let their babies march off too war and die. In 1991 there was another lie. The IIrqiiis, it was saiid, stole incubatoors from Kuwaitii hospitals dumping the babies on the cold floor to die. This was another lie. It's always like this in war. In WWII the Japnese suppposedly bayonettted Philllipino babiies and Philllipino mothers jumped off cliffs with their babies to keep them from the "NIPS". The truth goes out the window during war time.

66 I would expect Mike to fight or have fought but, not you Greg. No one would ever expect you to do anything in defense of this great nation.

So go ahead and call Snooks & Dittman chinkenhawks and tell them to go fight. If called, they probably would. You, would hide and weep.

I'm taking the side of the American People not the government thhat manipulates their people into being slaves for "multinational" corporations that could give a shit about thhe American People and are feeding China's economy which will overtake us in the yyear 2025. That's what we should be worried about not some pathetic arab countries.
The Democrats take away our 2nd amendment rights and then the republiicans take away our 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 8th amendment rights. By the time our wonderful government is done with us we've got penis. It's like a tag team wrestling match and they're beating thhe shit out of us. Keep licking jack boots if you wish.

70 I followed the Terri story for a long time now. I have never been so sickened in my entire life. How this is just in a Country that claims to be civil is completely beyond me. To hear about what has been happening to this woman for the first time one would think that such an injustice, such cruelty and such complete lack of morals and decency must surely only happen in some far away land unattached to any sense of being civil. Then to hear that this absolute mokery af all things just is happening in Florida, in the UNited States of America, that in a Country that values itself to be so much more civilized than the rest of the world is run by leaders who have no clue what the definition of civil and just really are. Or is this apparant to me only. I cannot put into words how deeply disgusted I am. God bless everyone of you who prayed for Terri, god bless Terri, and god bless her family, and may her 'husband' (which is also a mockery of the word) and all those 'civil' heads of Florida and America who could help but didn't rot in hell.

Same thing.

76 Carlos,
I am not a Liberal. I am a conservative Catholic.

The 16th amendment was never properly ratified. It is another example of the American People's economic slavery. Our governmment is spending us into bankruptsy and we are the chatttle of not only our government but also of the Chinese, the Japanese and the South Korean bankers.

I''m in favor of a flat 12% tax with the first $60,000 tax free for a family of 4 and the first $40,000 tax free for a single person.

84 All of you so obsessed with one American dying in Hospice Care are of the highest order of hypocrites. Look at the immense suffering caused by our taxpayer-funded sadistic violence in foreign lands that you have so jingoistically cheered.

As "Culture of Life" Bush mocked Born-Again Carla Faye Tucker as Governor, "Please..don't kill me" and then as President was seen pumping his fist into his hand at the outbreak of Shock and Awe's horrific bombing, you really have to wonder what your priorities are.

Posted by: Collin Baber at March 31, 2005 06:24 PM

85 >>>"All of you so obsessed with one American dying in Hospice Care are of the highest order of hypocrites."

Collin,

But it's less hypocritical than how the Left INTENTIONALLY kills millions of unborn babies in the womb.

At least in Iraq we don't try to kill innocent people.

100 posts and your stupid babeling doesn't get any better. Even a worm gets better with practice. Which means you are lower than the average worm.
Why don't you give up and go to a liberal, asshole, America hating, simple minded, weenie assed blog where you will be amongst you own kind.

87 Greg: Ever get the feeling people are getting tired of your dumb ass? Are you too stupid to get the message? Get lost punk. The big boys play here and you're just a sissified little shit. How about you and your pardner, the other traitor Colon Babler form your own blog so decent people don't have to spend their time reading your bullshit.

Posted by: greyrooster at March 31, 2005 09:35 PM

88 And for dumb bitch Colon Babler. Carla fay Tucker was a convicted killer on death row who got what she gave. Did she listen when she killed? Asshole. I salute Bush for going along with the Judge and jury in the case. They both recommended death for the bitch. Same as I recommend death for lying traitors like you.

Posted by: greyrooster at March 31, 2005 09:44 PM

89 For those who wish to know more. Carla Fay Tucker was a drug addict and prostitute who pickaxed her ex boy friend and his girl friend to death in their sleep. She admitted her guilt. Said she had an orgasm each time she stuck the pick ax in their chests.
And this is what the traitor Colon Babler holds against Bush. What Bush was saying was that Carla Fay Tucker didn't listen when the two people she murdered begged for their lives. Why should he listen to her. Once again here is proof that Colon Babler cannot be trusted to tell the truth about anything as the bitch continues her campaign against America.
I hope Bush is present when we hang this traitor.

92 Collin,

a few threads down, you were referring to such people as "religious zealots", a real threat to democracy.

Suddenly you're weeping for what you now respectfully refer to as a "Born Again Christian victim." Would Bush have anything to do with this sudden change of heart? He has that effect on you Libs.

Posted by: Carlos at March 31, 2005 11:30 PM

93 Oh yay. It's already happened, that lady has only been dead for less than a day and a bunch of fucking lunatics are already at war with one another. "We need to get right with God!", blah, blah, blah. Whatever, first of all, if there is a god, he's doing a shitty job of running this human race, and should have been out on his Almighty ass eons ago. Honestly, I think worship of the sun should be more like it. Because the sun gives us everything we need, warmth, light, helps our agriculture grow and prosper, and in some cases, gives us electricity. And best of all, the sun doesn't ask us for money, the sun doesn't judge us, it never called me a sinner. And another point, I can actually SEE the sun, which helps the credibility factor. i think the bible was written by bored midgets who were looking for a good laugh, and man did they get it. Long rant short, Terri Schiavo is dead, and the next mass media mascot is due on the stage at any moment now....so the bible-thumpers should get their sleep, because tomorrow is another day, and now that their icon is dead, they need to find a new one if they're gonna stay on tv.

Posted by: Filthy Allah at April 01, 2005 08:30 AM

104 Hey Genius - Filthy Allah
Don't move to Texas.
In 1999, GW Bush signed a law stating that hospitals can remove vegatative patients from life support if the patient can't pay regardless of the guardian's wishes. This means that alll Mr. Schiavo had to do was move to Texas in 1999 and drop Terri from his insurance plan and this would have been over in 1999.
What a hypocrit that weasle Bush is. He's the doctor of death. There were more executions under Bush than anyone else, ever.
And Collin Baber is correct when he asserts,'George W. Bush, in raw Roman arrogance had mocked his Born Again Christian victim begging for her life. Do a Google on Miss Tucker and you'll see."

He said,"Save me, Save me, Please Save me" as he mocked her. What do you expect from a guy who blew up frogs as a kid. That's the first sign of a mass murderer.

Tom DeLay too. He unplugged his Daddy from life support.

Posted by: greg at April 01, 2005 08:55 AM

105 Greg: "I maintain that as a Catholic I am against the death penalty, ALWAYS."

That's fine. The Church gives you and me the freedom to make a choice here. I just wanted to clarify that Catholics are not told to be FOR it indiscriminately or AGAINST it indiscriminately--the Church maintains that it should be used RARELY and with discretion, which is something I hope most people agree with.

Pax and happy Friday,

108 I really thought the Bush's would've done something to save Terri. How can he sign legislation in the middle of the night, make a speech about how we're supposed to "err on the side of life" and yet be completely powerless to stop this murder?

I lost my faith in him as a leader of this country. If he has no power to do anything, why is he in office?

Posted by: Laura at April 01, 2005 09:36 AM

109 "If he has no power to do anything, why is he in office?"

Because this is a republic, not a dictatorship (although the Left will disagree).

114 Regarding Terri, someone on another board mentioned what if she had been an organ donor? They would HAVE to keep her organs in tip top shape, therefore, they couldn't dehydrate or starve her. What a mess!

A lot of people I've spoken to will now have to change their living wills. When they stated they wouldn't want to be kept alive by artificial means, they never thought about feeding tubes and the fact that they could take up to two weeks to die, as Terri did.

How the hell can you put THAT in a will? Gee, I don't want anyone to save me, but if my main life support's a feeding tube, don't starve me, just put a pillow over my head?

Legally, what can you do?
