3 Romanians and One American Shown on Hostage Video

Al Jazeera has aired a video showing the three Romanian journalists and their American translator taken hostage by an unknown group Monday evening.

The three Romanian hostages seen in the video are Marie Jeanne Ion, Sorin Dumitru Miscoci, and Edward Ovidiu Ohanesian. The major media still remains silent on the identity of the American hostage. Reuters, for instance, says:

a fourth unidentified person appeared on the undated tape on Wednesday sitting on the floor in front of what seemed to be blankets hung on the wall.
However, The Jawa Report has learned that the fourth victim is American Mohammed ( Muhammed ) Monaf. Mr. Monaf is reportedly a naturalized American citizen of Iraqi origin. He is said to have spent time studying in Romania and was acting as a guide and interpretor for the journalists.

Two armed men were also seen on the hostage video. Al Jazeera did not say what group, if any, had given them the tape. The pro-terrorist and anti-American television station also did not mention any demands being made for the hostages' release.

Romanian media have reported that the kidnappers have made ransom demands. It is not known whether those who abducted these hostages are insurgents looking to fund their activities or common criminals.

I would caution against jumping to any conclusions about this hostage crisis. Unlike the Giuliana Sgrena episode, these seem to be legitimate journalists.

However, I think the Italians, French, Fillippinos, and others who have paid ransom for the release of hostages never learned the lesson of my 5 year old daughter's book, If You Give a Mouse Some Cheese. Giving terrorists money is not a good idea on so many levels.......

4 I say that depends on their politics.

5 what i can tell you:
no, this isn't "another case of sympathetic journos 'offering' themselves up as 'hostages' to help the terrorists cause".
yes, there are a lot of questions about this kidnapping, mainly because of the sponsor of the journalists's trip to iraq, Mr. Mohammed ( Muhammed ) Monaf. he, and his associates are good friends with important members of the PSD, the former government party. actually, one of his associates, Omar Haissam, is in a close relationship with ion iliescu, the former president. Haissam is charged with fraud, tax evasion and others and he is not allowed to leave the country. the same Haissam is the one that received a ransome request yesterday - 4 million dollars in exchange for the life of the four hostages.

7 The killing and kidnapping of Colon Babler must begin. This piece of shit has given aid and comfort to the enemy. Such traitorous behavior must be avenged.

9 Off Subject. An interesting thing happened to me today. Shows the difference between parts of our great land. I spent most of my life in Northern Calif. and South Florida. Moved to south Mississippi 8 years ago. I'm on the coast. For those looking for a retirement area check it out.
Comparison: If in Northern Calif. or South Florida and I backed my SUV into a ditch and couldn't get out, how much would it cost me and how would I get help? Would someone even stop and help. Think about it. Tell yourself the truth.
In Mississippi, if you run your car into a ditch. Don't panic. Four men in a four wheel drive pickup with a tow chain will be along shortly. Don't try to help them. Just stay out of the way. THIS IS WHAT THEY LIVE FOR.
They will not accept cash money????? Never understood the difference between cash money and money. They will let you buy them a couple of cases of beer at the nearest gas station???? Go figure???
Do these guys travel backs roads all day looking for people stuck in ditches? I see where they get their beer, but where do they get their gas?
In Marin/Sonoma county Calif or Dade county Florida would have cost me $500.00.
By way of conversation I mentioned some people I knew up their way. They told me one guy I mentioned was now dead. Shot by a neighbor. I asked why? The answer. He needed killing. Apparently, he needed killing is a valid defense as the shooter is already out of jail.
They also don't trust ragheads. Wonder who is further ahead on the intelligence meter?
Anyway. Wind is up. No fishing for next couple of days. Time for honey do this, honey do that. Bought my 2 month old grandson is first football helmet today. Don't fit.

10 SPARKY: Where you at. Trying to get family to agree to go to UK as start of this years vacation. Thinking about Ireland and Scotland. They want Australa or Italy/Greece.
Afraid I'll leave them to their own and spend my time in the pubs. Which is exactly what I would do. Seen all that ancient stuff before. Sort of like the grand canyon. Knocks you down the first time but nothing the second.
Think I'll stand up like a man and insist on the UK or Australa. Been to Australa 3 years ago and we loved it. Country sucks but the people are close to my heart. Kangaroos are cool but we have them in our zoos. Mississippi is full of Emus.
Anyway I'll buy you a pint if I get to beautiful Scotland.

LMAO! a lot of people do.

12 mr. emanuel/josbasescu let's not start a fight here. this is not about president basescu. several theories involving mr. Mohammed ( Muhammed ) Monaf and mr. Omar Haissam are being taken into consideration by the secret services. these are facts, it doesn't matter if you like it or not. and don't give me that "lowest kind of person" bullshit because you don't know what i am thinking.

13 Terry is dead.

Posted by: greyrooster at March 31, 2005 08:54 AM

14 That's why most of us do not negotiate with terrorists. I remember something awhile ago that if any country wanted to go into Iraq to be part of the coalition or work force, they had to sign a paper that they would not negotiate and pay ransom to terrorists. I wonder what happened to that idea? The money only goes to more weapons, bombs, material, so why in hell would they risk paying these terrorists anything? Yes, we may lose a hostage but for the greater good, no one should be paying these terrorists ransom of any kind. It's just too important.
