John McCain Lashes Out at al-Jazeera Over Mosque Shooting Video

A lot of conservatives hate John McCain. I've always believed there were two John McCain's: Smigel McCain and Gollum McCain. The Smigel McCain just wants to get along with his masters in the MSM. Smigel McCain brought us campaign finance reform. The Gollum McCain would just as soon kill master like as a sweet slimy fish. I like Gollum McCain. This is Gollum McCain:

Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain scolded an Arab television station for repeatedly airing video of a U.S. Marine killing an apparently unarmed man in Iraq but not film of a British hostage being killed by her kidnappers.
"Shame on al-Jazeera and shame on those people for doing what they did," McCain said in response to a question after a speech Thursday....

On whether the government should exercise more control over film and reports by media embedded with U.S. military units, McCain - a Navy pilot held prisoner for years in Vietnam - said he didn't know, but is "deeply, deeply troubled" by the incident.

"We don't know what events led up to it," he said. "All we saw was a flash picture."

1 Smeagol, not Smigel. Just don't want you getting a lot of irate e-mails from Tolkien fans.

2 After Peter Jackson's slaying of the story, misspelling Smeagol's name is the least of us Tolkien fans' worries.

3 That crazy McCain. He's such a maverick! Yeeehaw! *cracks a whip*

4 I agree with McCaine, he is right. the Arabs don't mind letting that video air. But they didn't show this marine taking a shot to the face and watching his buddy explode in front of him just before this house cleaning. Its no easy job for even the most experienced combat vet to comb a village or home flushing out gooks willing to die for a screwed up blood thristy camel jocky head hunter. as an experienced Vietnam vet my finger would have squeezed that trigger on not only him but the other noloads in there to. A grenade would have been an ace in the hole to finish that job. Good job Marine!!!!

5 Have embedded media and sometimes suffer the consequences. An average guy can make out whether a war crime was committed or not? Two sides we can think of:
The marine ( or colleagues) feared that he might ve been faking or rigged with a bomb....Fear understood.Afterall he was an enemy.Who knows maybe he was too injured a youthansia was just performed.Chapter closed
The other side says if the reporter could see he was unharmed then the soldiers would've know better. Also why was the other person spared. Both were lying injured in the same place the day before.Since in the video showed that they were in no hurry they could have got some device or a sniffer dog to help.( well it's easier said than done I know).
Bottomline: Less talk more action= less criticism!!!

6 I've seen the "Marine Video" and I just want to say for the record that he absolutely did the right thing. To hell with Geneva Convention and "War Crimes"... that kind of thing can only hold water when both sides agree to abide by its rulings... but I digress.

My first thought on seeing the video was, "Why the hell was this being recorded?"

Basically, this kind of thing MUST have happened countless times in the past but the difference these days is that we are a media controlled world and every little itty bitty detail must be captured on film for all to see.

I'm sure this kind of thing happened in every war ever known to man but this poor guy just happened to get a rush of blood to the head whilst delivering a rush of blood from the head to the scum on the ground whilst being recorded.

You can't be too careful with these people. They will wave a white flag and then open fire as you lower your guns and accept their surrender, they will have explosives concealed about their person and they will shoot you in the back just when you think they're drawing their last.

This marine was just making damn sure he and his colleagues didn't die of a sucker punch and if people find his actions at that moment barbaric, cowardly or whatever. Please consider the heroism he showed to still be standing at that point and put yourself in his shoes.

Does he go running over to the guy to tend his wounds and get himself and his colleagues (video and all) blown through the ceiling? I think not.

There's a saying, "If at first you don't succeed, try try and try again" and if you see your opponent somehow survived your first bullet, pump em with a few more, just to be sure.

8 Red Devil: My sentiments exactly. Too bad someone from the press can't bring up the fact that John Kerry got awarded a Silver Star for shooting down an enemy in Nam while chasing him around a hut, then catching up with him and killing him.

Why ain't HE investigated? Fuck these reporters. Then want the brass ring and don't care who they step on to get it. They should be banned from war zones totally. Unless they want to pitch in and help our boys.

And, you're right. Why the shit didn't the Marines tell the guy with the camera to scram?

I hope the poor Marine gets something good out of this in the future...lots of interviews, maybe a movie, a book...fuck it, he may become a celebrity after it's all said and done. He deserves it.

Posted by: Laura at November 19, 2004 07:28 PM

9 I understand and agree with the sentiments expressed here, but just to keep command of the moral high ground, let's remember one thing: This is NOT a case of "To Hell with the Geneva Convention!" Because, and please pay attention,

Thank you.

10 The idea that the Al-Jezzera terrorist dirtbag cocksucker propaganda network can't bring itself, along with our own MSM, to show the killing of someone who tried to help them for 20 years, but will play the video of one of our own defending himself from yet another bullet to the face shouldn't surprise anyone.

That brave Marine absolutely did the right thing. The tactic is make a dynamic moving entry, dump the chumps, and to the next target. That kid should get a medal. Shoot those fuckers twice to make sure.

All these idiots who think that the future of war is some bombs falling while we watch on TV are seriously stupid. There will always be a need to have legions of soldiers willing to meet the evil Satan's spawn cocksuckers who so deserve to be shot in the face twice.

Good riddance to the dead faking asshole.

12 Well, I don't know about Arab media, but I don't think there's been much US media spin on this. A little talk, but most of that has been about the Arab media spin. The bottom line here is that there just isn't much US media incentive to hype this story, thankfully, because they know George Bush isn't going to be re-elected. The whole point of all that Abu Ghraib hype was to defeat Bush at the polls, and since that's no longer on the agenda the American media just isn't very excited.

That's very fortunate, not only for the military mission, but for that young marine. He may even get a fair trial.

13 Quote"the poor Marine gets something good out of this in the future...lots of interviews, maybe a movie, a book" as Laura said.He deserves it.But did he purposely earn it? Maybe the marine was too poor that "someone" might have suggested the secanrio in order to get "rich or famous". If a third person was involved it's bound to be spilt out in the coming months. Until then ( if proved guilty at least for the bloggers..)give the Marine a "break"

14 "Terrorist dirtbag cocksucker propaganda"

Hey, David, why don't you tell us how you REALLY feel!!!

LMFAO!!!! That was great.

15 People bemoan America's failure to adhere to the Geneva Conventions, which they hold "sacred". Can they think of any conflict in which America's adversaries were enthusiastic upholders of these conventions? The Japanese? The Koreans? The North Vietnamese?
Do they notice any particular concern for "human rights" among the jihadis in Afghanistan or the Middle East? The convention applies so one-sidedly that adherence to it should be made contingent on a degree of reciprocity.
They cite Abu Ghraib, which provides a useful source of anti-American hand-wringing, but in my view, is hardly significant compared with standard practice in most Arab jails. For those unlucky enough to be incarcerated in most of the Middle East, the human sex pyramid of Abu Ghraib would probably come as light relief.
They should ask whether they would rather be a prisoner in Guantanamo Bay, or a humanitarian worker fallen into the hands of Islamic groups in Fallujah. liberal hypocrisy would not survive this test.

16 I say when in doubt, SHOOT!!, he may have saved his own life, who knows how many have pulled the trick of laying there then ooooops fooled ya,,,,now your all blown to pieces......

This is a joke, look at the beheadings? where is Margaret's video? cowards will let this one drag on,,,,,,the media needs to be charged with war crimes themselves and for the disrespect they've shown for this country, our military and our president!!! put the damn beheadings on the news over and over,, stop cutting out the bad parts........they sure didn't for this marine, and what was the big deal? makes me sick

17 RED DEVIL: What the Marine did is not against the Geneva Convention. He was an enemy combatant in civilan clothes. According to the Geneva Convention he is excluded from the normal rules of engagement. The day before when wounded (so called) he should have been shot. This is an important issue. Play by the rules or suffer the consequences. Enemy combatants out of uniform have always been subject to execution.

18 BRIAN B: Bingo!

Posted by: greyrooster at November 20, 2004 06:33 PM

19 I don't claim to know the Geneva Convention off by heart but I really only mentioned it because it was the only thing I could think of that could possibly be thrown in the Marine's face as some kind of "legal/moral" argument against his actions.

Some people will just see a "defenseless" guy lying down and getting pumped full of bullets to the head and us Westerners automatically say, "Hey, that's not right to kick a man when he's down!".

I was merely saying that in the case of these bastards, it is entirely "right" to kick him when he's down and to hell with what us Westerners may think.

I was making the point that we are not fighting an enemy that adheres to Western-fight-etiquette. They can, will and have committed acts that make a mockery of the Geneva Convention.

I've also noticed here in the UK, little more has been reported about the Marine in question and I'm glad about that.

If he's been taken out of service then that isn't good. He's clearly the type of soldier this war needs.

20 McCain is no different than any other politician, "Speaks with forked tongue!". Everyone speaks of him quite high and mighty when he makes that statement, but try to discount the issues when he works his utmost to undermine the US Armed Forces by canceling military programs left and right by using sunday morning talk shows.

For those of you who will jump up and balyhoo about anything its specifically the F-22 and F-35 programs. Also go research what happened to our Air Force boys and girls when they were competing against the Indian AF during excercises in the F-15's, and F-18's as McCain called the aircraft the best technology we had and that we didnt need new and advanced fighters.
