Obama's More Average America Policy Gets Results
I'm kind of fascinated by the press this Russian propaganda/WikiLeaks thing is getting. After all Obama stated at the beginning of his term that American exceptionalism was ending. That we were surrendering the title Worlds Last Remaining Super Power. The result is as predictable as the sunrise. Which I think is good on some level. I mean that title is like a target on your back. The world is much better off with several competing and cooperating large powers. But the consequence of a less powerful or less influential America, to sharing power more equally is naturally that nations like China and Russia move in world standing by default. So personally I like Cold War II, its sure beats the heck out of eternal WWIII that we've been going through. But you have to expect that a more relatively powerful Russia will have more influence. Possibly even influence in our own media. Its not as if we're above broadcasting VOA worldwide nor doing our own hacking of Russia. In the end the truth is we both have always attempted to influence the public opinion each other's populations. What effect that influence has is debateable. I doubt it changes much of anything. Trump won basically the same way Putin wins. The way Obama won, and every other president for that matter, based on his Charisma as a person. Not to mention that natural see-saw effect of America, we love to switch over now and then. But whatever, so long as eyes are on some imagined or real conflict between the big dogs it will work over time to put a lid on some of these smaller conflicts. In fact given Trump's history of taking control of the narrative I'm not sure that this whole thing is not exactly what Trump wants. Possibly Obama is setting the state he wants when he takes office. So that's my Kihnspiracy theory for the day. I intend to stick with it. Anyway the threat of global nuclear annihilation si something I grew up with. It makes me comfortable.

Its the term "last remaining superpower" that bothers me.
Sure we are. But don't say it out loud. Just makes every tin pot dictator and terrorist want to target you.
I think we should be powerful and take care of our sphere of influence. But to think Russia would forever be on its back? And that a weak Russia is to our advantage?
I want Russia to be able to take care of Russia's old clients and business.
Plus the competition helps us from being lazy and complacent.
Sure if Obama's intent was to abdicate our position,. sure Russia will fill the void.
A better policy would be to recognize Russia's recovery rather than emphasise the end of "American Exceptionalism.

It's also based on the fact that VOA and (say) RT are similar beasts, only working for opposing parties, which is, again, dead wrong.
Voice of America's aim is to tell the truth, and it respects its foreign audiences. RT pretends the notion of truth does not even exist, its aim is to subvert the foreign countries it broadcasts to, and it despises and insults its audiences.
Drawing a moral equivalence between those two completely different approaches is a staple of Russian propaganda.

Adversaries play chess. You win some. You lose some. Its the nature of it.
We can't expect to win every single time. Yeah after the fall of the USSR maybe.
But you have to expect that Russia won't always be down on its back. After all we pay them to get to space, do we not?
That said we need to both compete and co-operate when its in our interests to do so.
The competition is in both our interest.
What we don't want to happen is to become "enemies"
Adversaries drink together after the match. How are your kids? Enemies don't and the cost of making we and Russia enemies is high.
I lived the cold war and I'm not afraid of the Russians. In fact today's Russia has slid back in some respects but its their country.
It is way further ahead than the UssR was pre Glastnost.
But if you want me to spread wink wink nod nod cold war crap at Russia. I can.
I hates them damd Commies, nuke em! (wink wink nod nod)
Still I figure the Pakis will nuke me before Vlad does. When it comes down to it maybe he'll nuke Pakistan back for us.

Mr Afirmative Action President probably has his true uselessness eating at him constantly moreso after his 8 year puppet dance acting out his miserable comedy act dictated by others.
