Specially Designated Terrorist al-Qaeda and al-Nusra Member Skypes NYT's From His Safe Haven Saudi Arabia

Of course our stated objective is to deny terrorists safe havens in lawless places like Afghanistan and Libya, this is all well and good, save for the safe havens in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.

Saudi Arabia shelters Abdallah Muhammad al-Muhaysini while Pakistan shelters Ayman al--Zawahiri.

A Saudi-based, al-Qaida-connected cleric Skyped the New York Times last week to insist he’s not a globally designated terrorist.

“Today, Syrians are shocked to find that the United States has put on the terror list a person whom they consider to be a national symbol,” Abdallah Muhammad al-Muhaysini told The New York Times. He continued “It’s a very bizarre thing.”

The NYT described the scene as comical:

Muhaysini even admitted to The New York Times he’d been in contact with al-Qaida leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri, but insisted he did so to denounce the Islamic State.

The Long War Journal has tracked Muhaysini since 2014, and described his terrorist connections in detail, including known connections to a jihadi cleric linked to 9/11, serving as an al-Qaida emissary to ISIS in 2014, and bragging about his exploits on Twitter.

I'm like totally shocked.

1 The Saudi Royal family is far more concerned about internal strife than what the United States thinks. They and we know that once a rebellion starts it's all over for the Royal family. Who takes over during the vacuum is a guess. Imagine the Islamic State having all those beautiful weapons we supplied the Saudis with.
