Mormons Behead Woman For Apostasy

No wait!

But if Ms Kelly thinks she's an obedient Mormon, her Church leadership does not. She was excommunicated in June for founding a campaign to ordain women to the priesthood.

"You know, normally excommunication in our Church is for really grave sins like murder and child abuse," she says. "I was excommunicated for stating a fact, which is that men and women are not equal in our Church."

I keep getting my religions mixed up, they just decided not to talk to her anymore. Its almost like a beheading.

1 As a former LDS ward clerk, I can say that excommunications are unusual but not usually for heinous crimes or felonies. They are generally for repeatedly ignoring some church teaching in public after being formally counciled to change your ways.

For instance ( and not a real example) say some member is seen publicly drinking alcohol in the bar of a restaurant. He is called to a meeting with the local bishop who will try to help him change his behavior. If, for example, he refuses to be helped and is still continuing in his public drinking. Nonmembers see him and know that he is a LDS member and is not supposed to be drinking alcohol. Then he might be disfellowshiped or excommunicated.

And those actions do not mean that church members shun the misbehaving person. He is just asked not to partake of some church activities. Communion for example. But he is encouraged to attend church meetings and if he changes and conforms to Church policy he can be re-baptized after a certain interval.
