Must-See Memorial Day Movies

American-Flag-in-the-Sun.jpg

If you haven't seen them, rent them, stream them, buy them. You won't regret it.

(In no particular order)

1. Flags of Our Fathers

2. We Were Soldiers

3. The Longest Day

4. My Boy Jack

5. Glory

There are plenty of others out there. List your favorites in comments.

UPDATE by Rusty:

Let me add three to DMartyr's list:

1) Saving Private Ryan

2) Band of Brothers -- Not a "movie" per se, but it's still a must watch. And if you have Amazon Prime you can watch it for free. Which I do and I'm actually watching the whole series over the weekend. I'm up to episode 11.

3) The Pacific -- I haven't seen this series yet but I plan on watching it after I'm done with Band of Brothers. It's also available for free to Amazon Prime members. Given that my maternal grandfather died in the Pacific Theater, this one's a must and I can't believe I haven't taken the time to watch it yet.

For anyone who watches Band of Brothers, make sure you watch the "bonus materials" that come with the DVD set. It has an 80 minute documentary titled "We Stand Alone Together: The Men of Easy Company". In it, they interview the surviving men of Easy Company, including the late Richard Winters, and the late William "Wild Bill" Guarnere.

Those men are the very definition of integrity and courage.
