Before And After Photos Of Suspicious Package (Updated & Bumped)

Yesterday, I posted pictures of what several news media outlets claimed were of the second bomb. They showed a very suspicious package beside a mailbox. (Scroll down below fold to view them.)

My contention is that the package was not the bomb, and that news sites, including Breitbart, were irresponsible for not doing even the most basic investigation to determine accuracy of the reporting.

To add to my response, I found these photographs of the second explosion. The first image is the actual explosion. The second image, taken from the opposite end of the street, shows smoke plume immediately after the explosion:

As you can clearly see from the pictures (and the video), the blast was behind the metal barricades and not by the street where the suspicious package was located.

The 'before and after' pictures the media is claiming shows the bomb is, at best, sloppiness by the media or, at worst, as Moshe says, the media attempting to create news. Professional journalists should be embarrassed that bloggers with no formal journalism or investigative training are able to present news more accurately than they do.

Several news sites are carrying this as though it's a huge clue. After only a few seconds of examination, Vinnie and I were able to spot a few inconsistencies.

First, the bag is still there. It has just been blurred. For some reason, Breitbart, Fox and others are using a more blurred image that completely, and perhaps, deliberately obscures the bag.

Second, the metal railing is wrapped around the mailbox indicating the blast originated behind the fence, not in front of it. Had the package been the bomb, the barricade would have, no doubt, been blown back toward the crowd.

Third, the sign on the street post to the left is bent outward, toward the street. If the blast had come from the package, it should have been bent directly to the left, parallel with the street.

It should also be pointed out that the FBI has located at least one black backpack used to hide the bombs. This package does not fit that evidence.

I just don't see this package being significant. All indications, imo, suggest the bomb was near the base of the tree and on the other side of the fence. We need an uncensored image to be certain.

Below the fold I have marked these points, in case anyone is having difficulty seeing them.

1 I agree with almost everything you pointed out. I do not agree the bag is still there, but points 2 3 are things i noticed too.
Also, there is NO clear dmg to the side of the mailbox. If the bomb was where that bag was the side of that box would have been damaged way more.
If you look at the video of that explosion from the runners point of view and pause it right when it goes off, you can clearly see that the point of origin appears to be mid sidewalk. That leaves between the tree and the railing ofthe Forumpatio restaurant.
I agree and give this a, "meh...I dont see it."

2 I would think it had to be behind the fence because its my understanding that the crowd absorbed the blast and protected the passing runners.

If this is the bomb a lot of runners would have been hit directly.

3 The media is so fixated on this event, they are starting to make the news rather then report the news, something they've been doing for a long time.

4 The bag was on the street side of the fence. The person who dropped it off walked away.

5 And the reason the picture is blurred is because of the gory wounds to the person on the ground

6 If you zoom in on the mailbox in 2nd photo you can see horizontal scrapes like from low flying debris from back of fence. They should be almost vertical if the package was the bomb.

7 @SAM.

Obviously not from the videos all the smoke and flash is in or behind the crowd on the sidewalk side of the fence.

8 They are now showing videos of it on the street side while the suspect faked taking a picture. The claim is he set to bag down and acted like he was taking a photo. He then walked away leaving the backpack where he placed it.

9 Also, the mail box would have been blown up wouldn't it if the bag was next to it?

10 #1 - Fair enough on the bag. But there does appear to be something there that is blurred and of the similar color as the bag, and is in virtually the same spot as the bag.

11 I'd settle for just having them transmit what they have, and edit out the speculation. It's what they keep trying to add that is the problem. It forms prejudices and interferes with analysis of what we have.

12 The Washington City regime wants to defeat America. They shape events and opinions, and use their propaganda ministry (media) to create and transmit material to a (mostly) unwitting populace. The 'media' serve the regime and their purpose is to brainwash and misinform the subjects. This system did not suddenly spring up on Monday at Boston.

13 I've been really disappointed by a lot of the coverage. The MSM are always dreadful so I expect it from them and I expect nuttiness from the left, I expect them to hope it's a white guy.

Some conservative blogs have been disappointing, so far you and Ace of Spades are the only blogs that I frequent that have reported this responsibly. Gateway-pundit in particular seems to have gone completely off the rails.

There is just so much wild speculation out there.
