Johnny Jihad Wins Prison Prayer Lawsuit

INDIANAPOLIS — A federal judge ruled Friday that an American convicted of fighting alongside the Taliban must be allowed to pray daily in a group with other Muslim inmates at his high-security prison in Indiana.

Barring John Walker Lindh and his fellow Muslims from engaging in daily group ritual prayer violates a 1993 law that bans the government from curtailing religious speech without showing a compelling interest, U.S. District Judge Jane Magnus-Stinson ruled.

The judge blocked the prison from enforcing its ban on daily group prayer, but she noted that her ruling does not prohibit the prison from taking less restrictive security measures[...]

Prison officials argued that the same restrictions applied to inmates of all religions. They also argued that it would be dangerous, unaffordable and unfair to other inmates to meet Lindh's demands. Government witnesses testified that Muslims, who make up the majority of inmates in the unit, have operated like a gang under the guise of religious activity.

U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett, whose office represented the prison, said Friday that prosecutors were considering their next step, including a possible appeal.

"This case deals with critically important issues that have significance both inside and outside the walls of our federal prison facilities," Hogsett said. "Our concern continues to be the safety and security of both our federal prison system and the United States of America."[More...]

1 Well if they act like a gang and start Any disturbance; I don't see any problem with lethal crowd control.

2 Let them meet. Let them pray. Give them a nice, quiet room apart from the rest. And make sure it is full of listening and recording devices. They want to pray in the name of a pedophile, fine. They want to organize something while they are doing it, then I see no reason we shouldnt know exactly what they are saying.

3 I have an easy solution. Wheel each of them into their common prayer room on a handcart with a hockey mask ala Hannibal Lecter. When its time for them to touch their forehead to the ground I'm sure there will be plenty of prison guards that will oblige them.

4 Many people are looking forward to the day Johnny Jihad is released from prison, otherwise known as his last day on earth, before he goes to hell.

5 Please refer to my comment under the post called (CORN HOLING). For some insane reason our government thinks these jihadists have more rights than others. Does an Southern Baptist get to go to church on Wedsday night? Or these 7th day guys on Saturday? I'm calling bullshit.

6 Perhaps the University of Chicago will hire him. After all they hired the terrorist Bill Ayers.

7 Jus thinking. Bill Ayers blew up shit in America. John Walker Lynn used a rifle in Afghanistan. Who is the worse enemy of America? Who is Barrack Husein Obama's buddy? Why is America so stupid?

9 Oh my! Imagine having to defend this guy? I bet some poor lawyer got stuck with this awful case. Horrible.

10 I say allow it.... but then they need to be strip searched by Roseanne Barr while a cantraband sniffing pig inspects their clothes and korans. Just to make sure they aren't smuggling anything illegal, of course.

11 Mistress Overdone,

A good friend of mine got stuck defending one of these creeps

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Order_(group)

All I can say is that these scum had the best legal representation. I pushed my friend into getting some training and a CCP. His "clients" were dangerous and very likely to blame him for not adequately defending the indefensible. He used to tell me whast a nice grandmotherly woman Matthews' mother in law was. Gag me with a spoon. I would have executed the lot. Notice how these guys got MUCH heavier sentences than todays muzzies (Allah Akbar!)? Maybe it is just the times or a coincidence. Nah, it is just another instance of lowered expectations from third world muslim savages. We won't see any of these animals tried for crimes against humanity.

12 Johnny Jihad is enjoying his 15 minutes of fame and his muslim (mostly black muslims) are protecting and supporting him. It's ironic that they are using a white man for their In your face Whitey thing. Lynn is happy where he's at. What's he going to do if he gets out? Who would hire him? I know. Borrow the money from his understanding father for a ticket to Afghanistan.

16 It's easy - we should respect their religion by allowing them exactly the same freedoms they give to other religions in Saudi Arabia.
