Surprise? Another Charity Tied to al Qaeda
I always feel kind of dirty when I say this, but you just can't give money to an Islamic "charity":
A Canadian Muslim youth organization has been stripped of its charitable status after a Canada Revenue Agency investigation linked it to a Saudi-based group that allegedly financed Islamist terror campaigns. An audit of the World Assembly of Muslim Youth revealed the charity had developed ties to a number of organizations that allegedly helped fund al-Qaeda operations around the world and failed to comply with a number of standards required for charities to maintain their status. If you're Muslim and you need somewhere to funnel your charitable contributions, I really don't know what to say. I actually don't blame Muslims who give to these types of charities. Most of them give legitimate sounding pitches about "helping the widows and orphans in Kashmir" or some other place. Who wouldn't want to help widows and orphans? What they don't tell you is that the money is a reward given to the families of terrorists. Or that for every dollar spent on a hospital, another dollar is used to by weapons. And yes, I know it isn't fair to paint all Islamic charities as terror fronts. Not fair at all. But I think the precautionary principle applies to terrorism and since there is little or no vetting of what any charity actually does on the ground it is better to be safe than sorry. It's not my fault that a good chunk of people in your religion mean to do evil in the world. If it's any one's fault, it's theirs.
