BREAKING: Bomb Found On Rome Subway

Authorities & media have no clue why anyone would do such a thing.

ROME — Italian news reports say an explosive device has been found in a subway car in Rome.

...Apcom said the device had been left in a grocery bag underneath a seat, and was spotted by the conductor in the morning.

[Update I] - Rome Mayor says the crude bomb wouldn't couldn't have exploded. Authorities still don't have a motivation for the attempt, but the media is hinting at "anti-government" activists:

Rome was the site of violent protests by students Dec. 14 as Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi won a confidence vote. The students opposed the government’s plan to overhaul the country’s university system.
