American Hostage in Afghanistan Named: Jarod Newlove
The Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead extended the following statement on the events in Afghanistan: "The deepest sympathy of the entire Navy is with the family and friends of Petty Officer 2nd Class Justin McNeley, who died from wounds sustained in Logar Province, Afghanistan, Friday. We appreciate all the coalition forces have done to bring our shipmate home, and we know they continue to do everything they can in the search for Petty Officer 3rd Class Jarod Newlove, who remains missing. I remain extremely proud of the thousands of US Navy Sailors serving on the ground in Afghanistan today, and the tens of thousands who have deployed to Afghanistan during the past nine years."Our prayers are with the Newlove family. Justin McNeley was also killed in the incident. Although the Taliban claim he was killed in the firefight leading to Newlove's capture, his body does not seem to have been near the vehicle. Either McNeley was wounded and later died, or he was murdered. Knowing the Taliban, I'm going with the latter. Thanks to Vickie.
UPDATE: I've switched out the ISAF poster with one of Newlove from his MySpace account. Our prayers are with you, your wife, kids, and all other loved ones.Related:
