Biggest Let Down Evah: Traitor Adam Gadahn NOT Arrested in Pakistan (Updated: Who is Abu Yahya Majadin al-Adam?)
In the history of all the sad news we've had to report here over the years, this may be the saddest. For me, it's personal.I have an emotional investment in seeing Adam Gadahn killed or captured. So, when I heard the news that he had been captured, I was elated. And now the news that the American captured in Pakistan is not Gadahn? Major let down. Is there an anti-cowbell? An anti-MCHammer? If there is, let me know so I can put that image up. For now, Helen Thomas will have to do. One also wonders if the timing of the release of Gadahn's latest propaganda piece for al Qaeda is related to the news of the arrest? It's been awhile since we last saw Gadahn -- a recent video featured his voice as a dub over for the suicide bomber that killed several CIA agents in Afghanistan, but just his voice -- and the timing just seems rather prescient. Or maybe it's just a coincidence?
Voice of America:
Pakistani intelligence agents say they have captured an American al-Qaida operative, but they have reversed their initial assertion that he is Adam Gadahn, who is wanted in the United States on a treason charge. Pakistani officials said Monday the man they arrested recently in the southern port city of Karachi appears to be another American with the alias Abu Yahya Majadin al-Adam. They said the similarity of the name with those sometimes used by Adam Gadahn initially caused some confusion. So, who is this Abu Yahya Majadin al-Adam? The only thing we know is that he's originally from Pennsylvania and that he, like Gadahn, is suspected of being part of the al Qaeda leadership. If any one knows anything about this American traitor in Pakistan, please email me or drop the info in the comments. This begs the question: just how many Americans belong to al Qaeda central? UPDATE: Or maybe he's not from Pennsylvania at all, other reports indicate that he's a dual citizen of Egypt. Which I guess could mean that he's of Egyptian heritage but born in Pennsylvania, but do Pakistanis really think that Arabs and Europeans look that much alike that they can't tell them apart? UPDATE: Still racking my brain over who this could possibly be. Another report indicates that the person picked up spoke fluent English and Pashto. So, maybe he's not of Egyptian ancestry but is the child of Pakistani or Afghan immigrants? Here are the names of a few Americans caught in Pakistan or suspected of traveling to Pakistan to join the jihad. Of them, only Gadahn has been indicted for treason. It's not an extant list, just what comes to mind. Bryant Neal Vinas, from New York and arrested in Pakistan. Indicted for attempting to kill Americans abroad. Vinas was a big time eHadi. David Headley, arrested at his Chicago home and a freelance operative for Pakistan's LeT. Helped plan the Mumbai massacre and possibly other acts of violence in India. The YouTube jihadis: Waqar Hussain Khan, Ahmed Abdullah Minni, Ramy S Zamzam, Aman Hassan Yemer, Umar Farooq went to Pakistan to join al Qaeda or the Taliban. Still held in Pakistani prison. The North Carolina 7: Daniel Patrick Boyd, Hysen Sherifi, Anes Subasic, Zakariya Boyd, Dylan Boyd, Mohammad Omar Aly Hassan, and Ziyad Yaghi were involved in several failed plots to join al Qaeda and an ongoing plot to join the Taliban in Pakistan. All facing federal indictments. Jude Kenan Mohammad was also part of the 7 from North Carolina mentioned above, but he's on the lam in Pakistan. He was arrested on his way to cross the border into Afghanistan, but the Pakistanis let him go and now he's missing, presumed to be with al Qaeda or the Taliban. Ahmad Abousamra from Boston is under a federal indictment, missing, and presumably in Pakistan. Abousamra was able to travel to the lands of jihad with known internet terrorist supporter Tarek Mehanna.
