Taliban Promise Attacks on Washington, D.C.
No shock that the Taliban have claimed responsibility for yesterday's attacks on a police training facility. Perhaps a little more disconcerting?
"Soon we will launch an attack in Washington that will amaze everyone in the world," [Pakistani Taliban leader Baitullah] Mehsud told The Associated Press by phone. He provided no details.I'm not sure which is more troubling: the fact that the Taliban claim to be planning attacks against our nation's capital, or the fact that the Associated Press has the Taliban leader's phone number in their rolodex? The latter. Why? Because the chances of a Taliban planned attack going down in Washington, D.C. seem rather slim at a longshot. But the AP chit chatting with the Taliban is troubling. Do journalists get a free pass from the NSA/CIA? I hope not. Thanks to RudyFox. PS: If you would like to have your own chit chat with the Afghan arm of the Taliban, here are there phone numbers (Really. I'm totally serious. They have these up on the Taliban's official website, hosted in the USA.) Zabihullah Mujahid
