"Suspicious Packages" Found Throughout Boston (UPDATED, BUMPED)

Michelle has the story.

UPDATE: LGF reports that it was all a "hoax."

UPDATE 2:Any of you who want to pile on the Boston authorities should have some even tougher questions for the folks in the rest of the country:

Turner Broadcasting is expected to issue an apology for causing today's series of bomb scares throughout Boston. A statement emailed to the Globe from Turner Broadcasting said: "The 'packages' in question are magnetic lights that pose no danger. They are part of an outdoor marketing campaign in 10 cities in support of Adult Swim's animated television show Aqua Teen Hunger Force. They have been in place for two to three weeks in Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Seattle, Portland, Austin, San Francisco, and Philadelphia. Parent company Turner Broadcasting is in contact with local and federal law enforcement on the exact locations of the billboards. We regret that they were mistakenly thought to pose any danger."

1 Nothing here:

National Geographic had a great show on Iraq today. Showing the progress andthe people who don't shake their fists at troops. Must have really pissed the cut and runners off. Not one Iraqi Academic, scientist or business man wanted America to leave before Iraq is stable. One former university head said "it doesn't matter why the Americans came. They did a good thing and continue to do so. The removal of Sadam HUSSEIN (spelled the same as Barrack HUSSEIN Jomama) was good and stopping the religious fanatics is good. Only a free country can compete in the international market. Why doesn't the left listen? Why? Because they cannot afford for us to win. If we win and stablize the region the left is history. If Bush goes down in history as a strong president who stuck with his convictions the Clintons, Kennedy, Pelosi, Sharpton, Barney Frank and other assholes will be out in the cold. These lefturds would rather us lose in Iraq than have our present leaders win. They would sacrifice our troops and this natioins future rather than lose an election. They are the enemy and should be treated as such. If America wins they lose. Just that simple. Don't have pity on them as they choose the path to take. They didn't make a mistake. They calculated their chances to enrich themselves. They choose personal gain over the future of our children. Piss on them.

2 Turns out the Boston packages contained circuit boards which lit up to resemble Ur, the mooninite asshole from Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,249110,00.html

"It's a hoax and it's not funny," said Gov. Deval Patrick, who held a press conference Wednesday afternoon.Actually, it's a little funny. I actually laughed out loud when I saw the photo of Ur on the foxnews page.

3 It's a sham. http://toddvanderlin.com/blog/2007/01/16/adult-swim-ad

Guerilla marketing for Cartoon Network's Adult Swim.

The big shock is that THE THINGS HAVE BEEN IN PLACE FOR OVER A WEEK.

and the cops didn't notice.

4 I actually like ATHF. it's pretty funny.

And no, this wasn't a hoax where they were "Flipping off the cops"

The "moonites" flip EVERYBODY off.Its what they do.

But really.Way to go Boston Police. "Glowing boxes on bridges" for over a week and they just realised it now.

5 My favorite mooninite example of flipping the bird:

Ignignokt: (from space towards earth, with an unusually large middle finger) "I hope he can see this because I'm doing it as hard as I can."

6 I'm reminded of the "incident" when the cops set a red-alert when they discovered a highway underpass where someone had painted "all your base are belong to us."
While I'm not that keen on some aspects of popular culture, it seems that the cops should have a bit more "situational awareness."

7 Aqua Teen Hunger Force is the shit! Probably the greatest cartoon ever made!!! I can't describe how much I love it!!! AQUA TEEN HUNGER FORCE! NUMBA ONE IN DA HOOD G!

8 Who in the World has time to sit around and watch such crap as the Aqua Teen Hunger Force? For God's sake, grow up.

Posted by: templar knight at January 31, 2007 08:48 PM

9 And tell us what you watch, templar...

Even the worst episode of ATHF is funnier than every show on CBS or ABC.

Posted by: wooga at January 31, 2007 09:26 PM

10 Is this Teds way of saying to Jihad Jane "Happy Valentines Day guess we showed them"

Posted by: Mrs Abe Froman at January 31, 2007 09:41 PM

11 To be honest, Mr. Wooga, I rarely watch TV. I don't have time.Besides a full time job, three children and a wife, I am active in a number of organizations. Some to make us safer, some to facilitate change, and some just for fun. Sorry I came off as rather harsh.

Posted by: templar knight at January 31, 2007 10:02 PM

12 Actually, Aqua Teen Hunger Force is quite amusing. And rather insightful at it's farcical approach to social commentary regarding the base drives of the human id. Indeed it examines the duality of the hero who is self centered. Idvs. Ego. involving characters lacking either a super ego, or other key components of the psyche....in situations far too improbable to be threatening to a viewer. As it were. <br>
<br>

OR<br><br>

It is funny to watch characters do things they shouldn't do and suffer the concequences when the dialogue and situations are funny.<br>
<br>
OR<br>
<br>
Its funny. <br>
<br>

Finally, I blame the incompetence of the boston police / Boston Mediafor not being able to tell the diffrence between some batteries and LEDs, and a bomb. Their arrest of the college student-employee is scapegoating, and they will not be able to prove that Cartoon Network or the student-employeehad the requisite intent for the Disorderly Conduct charge let alone the "Planting of Hoax devices" charge.

13 Hmmm.... so much for html.

14 Note to self: When I decide to take over to world start with Boston. They should make easy pickings

Posted by: Pete at February 01, 2007 05:34 AM

15 I saw "Turner Broadcasting" and knew the threat was real.

Posted by: Buzzy at February 01, 2007 09:00 AM

16 Post 9-11 now means post-brain. I remember a bunch of tough guys running around this country before with big ol' NO FEAR stickers on everything - notice how you don't seethose anymore? Instead of pre-911 it should be re-phrased as pre-vagina.

Posted by: tbone at February 01, 2007 02:11 PM

17 Anyone who thinks this isn't funny as hell is a TOOL of Osama Bin Laden - that includes you Shackleford. Somewhere that guy is sitting back in his cave with HVAC and DiSH, and laughing his ass off at every single one of you fools: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED - AMERICANS ARE TOTALLY COWED.

I'm tempted to delete this site from my favorites and 127.0.0.1 the domain in my hosts file. Pullyour head out of your ass Rusty. Boston PD deserves no cudos for this. It would have only been funnier if NOPD had screwed it up this big.

18 Helo Pilot, finally some other sane individual has arrived!

Posted by: tbone at February 02, 2007 01:09 PM

19 Harvey Birdman kicks ATHF butt.

Posted by: Improbulus Maximus at February 03, 2007 02:17 PM

20 Tbone: You worthless piece of shit. Quit trying to kiss up to Helo pilot. You read him wrong. Asshole.

Posted by: greyrooster at February 03, 2007 08:00 PM

21 The cops are pissed because they look like dorks. And yes RUSTY SCHEKELFORD doesn't seem to be what he once was. I think he's doing drugs and hanging with muslims.
