Dirty Bomb Threat Against NFL Stadiums

UPDATE: False alarm. We have found the original threat and it is not credible. Original dirty bomb NFL threat here.

ABCNEWS is reporting that a website often used by Islamic terrorists has posted a threat to Seven NFL stadiums this week. Personally this makes me a bit nervous about the Baseball games as well.

ABCNEWS:WASHINGTON Oct 18, 2006 (AP)ó A Web site is claiming that seven NFL football stadiums will be hit with radiological dirty bombs this weekend, but the government on Wednesday expressed doubts about the threat.

The warning, posted Oct. 12, was part of an ongoing Internet conversation titled "New Attack on America Be Afraid." It mentioned NFL stadiums in New York, Miami, Atlanta, Seattle, Houston, Oakland and Cleveland, where games are scheduled for this weekend.

The Homeland Security Department alerted authorities and stadium owners in those cities, as well as the NFL, of the Web message but said the threat was being viewed "with strong skepticism." Homeland Security spokesman Russ Knocke said there was no intelligence that indicated such an attack was imminent, and that the alert was "out of an abundance of caution."

I agree it may not be credible but Rusty has been following these threats closely here and here. It may be more credible than we thought. However, I doubt the terrorists would telegraph the operation so. It does not help the chances of success much.

I want St. Louis to win both for my grandma and so they can get 3 games ahead of Detroit in the World Series and blow it. See itís the Midwestern Curse. We can play ball itís just very unlikely we can win the Big Game.

1 Is this what you do all day?

Search the internet for supposed terrorist threats against the US? Are you really that afraid of people of a different color that you need to make up terrible fantasys about how they are going to come along and blow up your football stadiums?

I do understand that you are a coward and are scared of everything, including life, but you are being silly. yes, there is a possibility that someone or some group of people would want to blow up something in the states. And, for good reason. Your military has murdered, raped and tortured hundreds of thousands of people in the middle east alone. Not to mention destroyed the crumbling infastructure of Iraq and Afghanistan, leaving even more homeless, jobless and without electricity and water. I wonder if anyone has bothered to count how many people died in Iraq because of destruction of hospitals, roads, and lack of water. I would expect it could fill about 7 football stadiums......

just keep in mind that these are historical times. and history will judge this government and its propaghanda machine which this website is a part of. Empires crumble, so will this one.....

2 Mom,
We're winning the war one keystroke at a time!

3 Looks like a direct attempt to shut down my blog at rhymeswithright.mu.nu. The other six stadiums are just a distraction from their true target.

After all, my wife and I will be in our customary seats in section 541 at Reliant Stadium. GO TEXANS!

If i don't go watch NFL football, the terrorists win.

4 Amen Greg.
As for "Mom": bite me.
These things pop up online and the trails are followed.
Rather simple.
I'dprefer tohear about the threats and be able to poo-pooh them later.
Our country has been repeatedly threatened.
We know that our enemies (both abroad and homegrown) are actively seeking some way to do harm and create havoc in our country.
Of course, there are always those that lay the blame for every ill on the face of the earth on our "administration" and their policies.
I stand with our government.
I do not alwaysnecessarily agree with their decisions, but I DO stand with them, because to not standin support of our government only breeds more anarchy and instability.
As for our bloggers that keep an eye out for us, thank you!

7 Last Gap:" Vigilance. Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it!"

Not when it morphs into a fear that causes us to betray the Consitutional Republic for the Military Commissions Act.
Cowardly sheep, you shame our fathers.

11 hey Rymes with Punt,

if you are "standing with this government" to avoid "instability", then maybe you should think about how unstable this world is now, because of this government and previous governments.

a half century of puppet dictatorships, training terrorists, committing terrorist acts, and simply creating 'instability' like in Haiti or Columbia, has made the world soo fucked up, that people feel the need to fly air planes into buildings, blow up train stations in order to get their points across....

this is a mess that was created by the American government. And, now they are using it to turn your simple country into a fascist regime that will be beyond scary....
