The Axis of Jihadism

Behrooz Bahbudi and Walid Phares have this in today's Washington Post, but since they also posted it over at CT blog I'd encourage you to go there and read it.

There are two major “trees” of Jihadism: The Salafists and the Khumeinists. The Salafists, influenced by the radical Wahabis and the “Muslim Brotherhood” call for the removal of the current Arab and Muslim Governments and their replacement by a worldwide power they call “Caliphate.” The Salafist movement produced al Qaeda and its affiliates around the world and identifies itself as “The International Salafi Jihadi Movement.” It is omnipresent in the Muslim world and has a significant presence inside democracies worldwide. The Salafi Jihadists established the Taliban regime in Afghanistan. This was the model they wished to multiply around the globe. The Khumeinists are the Jihadist followers of the teachings of Iranian Ayatollah Ruhallah Khumeini. They have established what they call an “Islamic Republic” in Iran and have funded movements, including Hezbollah in Lebanon. The Iranian Regime oppresses its own peoples and seeks regional and world expansion through Terrorism and Nuclear threat.
I would also add that many many Muslims would be sympathetic to the goals of the Salafists and the Khumeinists, yet they would reject the method of terrorism. It's an important distinction.

Because it's not just the method which is barbaric, but the utopian vision.

Beware of utopians with guns, but also beware of utopians who vote.

1 C'mon now, not all Utopian visions are dangerous. For instance, I envisionmyselfin a Utopia filled with ice cold beer, scantily clad Elisha Cuthbert's, Jessica Alba's, and Kira Knightly's. If that's wrong, I don't want to be right.

That must be why we see all the hordes of peaceful muslims protesting against terrorism. Oh, wait, that's right, we don't see muslims protesting against terrorism. Rusty, get your head out of wherever it's buried and stop bullshitting yourself and us; there are no muslims who don't support jihad, and there is not one who loses a minute of sleep over the deaths of innocent people. They are all - each and every one - the enemy, and until everyone can admit that to themselves, we're going to keep losing ground, because we can't fight the enemy if we won't even name them.

6 Hey, I have no problem with the Muslims who want to see Islam dominate the world through the voluntary conversion of its people. Heck, I want to see the same thing happen in re. Christianity.

The problem is that too many Muslims are out to use violence to achieve the goal -- and too few are willing to condemn that method.

7 It is highly doubtful that the majority of Muslims at the time favored the past conquests, and may I use India as an example, that caused the genocide of the Buddists and Hindus who occupied Afghanistan and the Indian subcontinent. But they sure as hell didn't protest it, nor did they turn down the slaves, concubines, gold, silver, precious stones, and untold riches that came with these conquests. So, you see, few Muslims today will criticize the radicals, because even though they may disagree somewhat on the methods, they all agree on the results.

8 JJ, what evidence do you have that muslims don't favor the methods of terrorism? Please stop apologizing for them, because they are all, each and every one, enemies, and would gladly see you or me dead.
