A Little Help, Please

Who is this "Harry Etmyers" that everyone keeps talking about?

Posted by: Vinnie at 12:15 PM

1 I don't know either.
Just talked to one of my fishing partners. His $800.00 home at Eden Isles (Slidell, La) sustained major water damage. So he moved to one of his condo's (that happened to be empty) on Lake Huron in Michigan. Fema send him $2,000.00 to help with his relocation. They also sent him $2350.00 for addition rent expenses. Let me see here. He moves from his beautiful home on the water in La. to his condo on Lake Huron and the tax payers pay the bill???? He also lost a fancy moter coach. His moter coach, boats and home are fully insured and the guy has millions. Way to go Fema.
The Fema employees brought from out of state at great expense have to travel 45 minutes to work from the tax paid for motel they are staying in. They also get meals paid for. They are working 66 hrs per week. NOW GET THIS. They are paid at an overtime rate for the 2 1/2 hrs per day they drive to work buddied up 4 to a car. THE WORKING PEOPLE paying the bill don't get paid overtime for sitting in traffic or driving long distances to work.
The idea behind FEMA is good. The actual management is horrible.

2 not to threadjack, but:

Greyrooster, I was watching some of the people in queues for Water and bags of Ice on CNN. Now bare in mind that this was a little over forty-eight hours after the Hurricane -- people actually had the nerve to start attacking FEMA saying that they did not provide enough water or Ice.

Why is it in todays society people feel like the Government should be their wet nurse? With all the warnings about the Hurricane they couldn't buy enough bottled water, fill water containers or even their bathtub? couldn't have stocked a cooler with ice?

You'd almost think we lived in a nation of "Old Mother Hubbard's" that don't have enough Food, or Water to survive 3-7 days?

I personally don't rely on the Government for anything in my life, and I sure wouldn't be relying on them to provide me food/water/shelter in the event of a natural disaster. I'm not why some people don't take responsibility for their own wellbeing.

3 Isn't he a pitcher for the ChiSox?

Threadjack: The gov't can't be a nanny, more like a spiteful schoolmarm... And I'm pretty sure your buddy with the condos paid way more than five grand to the government in any given year. Where's the skin off your nose if he gets some back? Are you arguing that other people deserve his money more than he does?

4 Welcome back, Greyrooster, if you haven't seen my comments on another thread. Glad to know you're better than ever, what with your new plumbing and all.

5 tee bee:
Reality called, and left a message it reads "I'm missing you."

I bet you think the two thousand dollar debit cards were a good idea too?

Posted by: dave at October 27, 2005 03:22 PM

6 How come Jeb isn't on tv bawling his eyes out at the disaster that is Florida? How come I don't hear about no Lootin or people being picked off roof tops?

No rapes or killins or 2000 debit cards... No Geraldo loosin his shizzle on tv?

What's up wit dat?

7 Filthy,

That logic you're using will lead you to the subject that cannot be discussed in a rational way in America: RACE.

Good luck, because it needs to be addressed.

Race may be too broad - personally think it has more to do with class - and I don't mean socio-economic. Remember - the images we all saw were essentially confined to one urban area (NO)with a rather sleazy and seemy reputation to start with.

Posted by: hondo at October 27, 2005 05:02 PM

9 Hondo,

I have to agree that NO is rather seemy and sleazy, no doubt about that, but I have been to most major cities in the US, and they all have that same problem in microcosm.

We can discuss class all we want, but the fact that you dodged the "race question" confirms my original statement. If you discuss it in a rational or irrational way, you will still be labeled a racist, while a black man can get on national television(C-Span) and call for the extermination of the white race from the entire Earth and we don't even hear a hiccup out of the MSM.

Why is that, Hondo, or anyone else out there. Why?

10 ah, the race card, the p\oker equivalent of a royal flush.
Once bought into play by a black person, during discussion of an issue; you're officially on notice you're a bigot.

11 Jesusmonger Jehosephat - beast-eaters anakinomymous has selected you as purveyor of the disgusting mothball mouth perky pills.

12 I like perky pills and take them regularly. Strawbery is my favorite flavor. DSM is a dumn ass.

13 I'm a bigot Dave; I hate stupid people and think they should all be neutered and sent to work in some salt mines somewhere, and the fact that there is a higher incidence of stupidity among some demographic groups than others is in no way a fault of mine.
