The Deep State Through The Eyes Of A NeverTrumper...

I like Matt Taibbi's writing style, and he certainly sees at least some of the many issues, but he also falls into the elitist trap of lazy ignorance of the disconnect between America and the coastal elites. That of course manifests in most of the pompous asses as slobbering, drooling, NeverTrump blather.

This article is worth a read, because he correctly identifies the dangers of a deep state and the power inherent in an unelected bureaucracy that feels a sense of entitlement and superiority over the citizens of the country it is supposed to serve and be subordinate to!

We're in a permanent coup

My discomfort in the last few years, first with Russiagate and now with Ukrainegate and impeachment, stems from the belief that the people pushing hardest for Trump’s early removal are more dangerous than Trump. Many Americans don’t see this because they’re not used to waking up in a country where you’re not sure who the president will be by nightfall. They don’t understand that this predicament is worse than having a bad president.

The Trump presidency is the first to reveal a full-blown schism between the intelligence community and the White House. Senior figures in the CIA, NSA, FBI and other agencies made an open break from their would-be boss before Trump’s inauguration, commencing a public war of leaks that has not stopped.

But he also falls into the trap of accepting the innuendo and supposition that Trump is --OF COURSE! -- a crook and corrupt.

That's too bad, especially in light of his experience in parts of the world that are much less free...whose idea of liberty is nonexistent.

And this is good stuff...

Russiagate birthed a whole brand of politics, a government-in-exile, which prosecuted its case against Trump via a constant stream of “approved” leaks, partisans in congress, and an increasingly unified and thematically consistent set of commercial news outlets.

These mechanisms have been transplanted now onto the Ukrainegate drama. It’s the same people beating the public drums, with the messaging run out of the same congressional committees, through the same Nadlers, Schiffs, and Swalwells. The same news outlets are on full alert.

The sidelined “intel chiefs” are once again playing central roles in making the public case. Comey says “we may now be at a point” where impeachment is necessary. Brennan, with unintentional irony, says the United States is “no longer a democracy.” Clapper says the Ukraine whistleblower complaint is “one of the most credible” he’s seen.

Amazing that the media are so willing to accept the blatant politicking and obvious partisan spin of the heads of the deep state, yet send legions of ignorant "journalists" to the stacks and phones whenever President Trump or his defenders say pretty much anything.

12 Posted earlier, somewhat On-topic:

Welp, that was interesting in a "may you live in interesting times" sort of way.

Earlier, the delightful and athletic Mrs naturalfake wanted to go for a walk in a natural preserve, so off we went.

Just got back.

While we were walking, I was talking to the beautiful and erudite Mrs naturalfake about the Trump VS China situation, when suddenly a tall, skinny xerson in antifa drag stepped out of a path ahead,

stared at me and put a finger to xis scarf covered lips a said "Shhhhhh!".

I stared back and made the brilliant retort, "Huh?"

Again with the finger to lips, "Shhhh!"

As we approached, I noticed back a little further down the path was a group of 10-15 antifatards.

So, I just laughed at the Shuish Fuhrer and said, "Okay, crazy person."

And we continued on our way.

At which point, Mrs naturalfake angrily said to me, "What are you doing? Don't talk to crazy people!" and some more elaboration on that.

And, I had to agree cuz one she was with me and that might've put her in danger and two, if they had gotten pissed off, no way I could've taken on a dozen on so.

Thinking on it as we drove back home, I said - "I'm sure they're probably here for Trump's rally, this week and making plans. But, here in our town, if we're getting home grown antifa nuts...I don't know things may really be getting bad."

And showing why I love her, the practical and sensible Mrs naturalfake said -

"Well, we can't do anything about that. But, what we can do is keeping practicing shooting and be prepared. Preparation's better than worrying."

I still can't believe antifa's getting a free run. Hopefully, this batch will be on the receiving end of a hickory shampoo should they try to disrupt the Trump rally this week.

We have one party, in the House of Representatives, that has blatantly abused their powers, to try to overthrow the last election.

They have been after impeachment since he was elected, THEY TOLD US SO.

Meanwhile, they are spending so much time on a witchhunt, that they are not doing their Constitutionally mandated duty, of funding the Government itself.

27 Ukrainegate is simple: PT asked for a "favor" to look into the 2016 US election via corruption In Zelenskyy's country. That's why MSM tries to link the favor to Biden, not the real issue. Ukraine already found two politicians guilty of that corruption. One, an MP named Serhiy Leshchenko, had a fellowship w the National Endowment for Democracy in 2014. NED is funded by Congress and is easily linked to the CIA. So, if Leshchenko created the Black Ledger that falsely incriminated Manafort and Leshchenko and can be linked to CIA (and, possibly, MI6 through a previous fellowship he had at the John Smith Trust) both the US and Ukraine have a serious problem.

He and Glenn Greenwald represent the far left, which has a huge distrust of the CIA and FBI. Yes, they also have deep ties to Russia and Iran. Nonetheless, they represent a large chunk of the left. Will it be vital to elections? No, but it means that the Democrats are facing civil war with that faction when they lose to Trump. Or, more likely, that the AOC types will take over entirely if guns start firing or indictments start being handed down.

right ... my problem with the generally used meme "it was a binary choice" is that it (sorta) takes as the default position that "yes Trump is terrible and dishonest and despicable ... BUT it was binary".

imo, even Cruz at the end, revealed he would bend the knee to his Bush heritage, as he got their approval once Trump looked inevitable. imo ONLY Trump was outside enough AND wealthy enough to endure the Coup. (if he hasn't actually been compromised to some degree). ONLY Trump was up for a direct confrontation with the enemy within, in unabashed fashion.

The real binary choice is as you note ... fight the DeepState in a war for the Republic's survival, or submit to the DS propaganda that we just have to endure Trump till we can install another DS owned/run fake POTUS. Wrong, Warrior Trump ftw.

61 Random thoughts:

1) The deep state has likely destroyed Trump's confidence in the ordinary work product of the intelligence community, & that's a very bad thing. All the antiTrump leaking has grievously wounded public confidence in those agencies as well. Humpty Dumpty won't be easy to put back together again. It's like what they say about famous restaurants: it takes generations to build up a good reputation, and one bad week to tear it all down.

2) Cheer up, Hordelings.! The news from LA last
night was astonishingly good! So was the news from NC-09 last month. Those actual election RESULTS will terrify any GOPe elected officials who might be considering "putting country before party." Nixon was helpless & defenseless. He was never a favorite of conservatives & had no allies. Trump is... differently situated!

3) Impeachment seems to be creating intense micro-polarization, imo. Since DEMs represent far more nominally GOP constituencies than vice versa, they've got to be worried about the end game here.

73 So Congress making up rules that it expects the executive branch to follow could be a constitutional crisis until sorted out.

And at the local level, governors and even mayors effectively making law without the benefit of the legislature. As in, e.g., DeBlasio banning the phrase "illegal alien" and making those using it subject to criminal penalties. So he not only abrogates the NY state constitution, but the Federal one as well.

Oh, OK. He's a Democrat, and he meant well, so no problem.

You can't fuck around with leaks and national security (and coups) in the military. Your life will be over.

We've never had problems like this in the past because the CIA was full of mostly Republicans that actually focused on the Cold War. Now it is career bureaucrats that approach their job like elected politicians.

And no jury in DC will ever convict these clowns.

If Trump gets reelected, he really needs mass firings and bring most of this under the military.

Yes. It is high damned time for the military to take over ALL foreign intelligence duties. CIA's go to DIA, NSA's to Navy SIGINT, etc.

Domestic intelligence needs to be broken off of the FBI, DRASTICALLY scaled down, and transferred to another agency. Perhaps the Marshals or the Secret Service. We have other more competent police agencies who can handle the core LE duties they suck so much dick at executing.

Then FBI, CIA, and NSA should be dissolved.

And their employees served the roughest variety of justice. In public.

142 >>We can speculate all we want. I think it's so far gone, I don't see any way back to law and order the way the Constitution lays out.

I think this is a big part of why Trump is moving as slowly and as lawfully as he has. Trump emphasized the day before Mueller was appointed in an interview with Lester Holt that he might confuse so people but he was demanding a complete and thorough investigation of the Russia collusion claims because he wanted people to see everything. He didn't interfere with the investigation and gave them everything they wanted. In the end all they proved was there was all the claims were false and gave him the perfect pretext to launch an investigation of the investigators to see where all of this garbage came from.

People have short memories but that was Donald Trump speaking. Nothing has gotten more emphasis in his administration that a return to law and order and doing things lawfully.

Many wanted him to just start firing people and abusing the same laws that were abused against him and he resisted. He is doing this by the book because he is serious about a return to law and order.

Yeah, it's too far gone for peaceful resolution, but the Constitution lays out another option. It'll come down to that, or it won't. But no, it can't be fixed otherwise, because the entire system is deeply corrupt.

When the honest men can be counted on one hand and the crooks, cowards, and fools are numbered in the hundreds of thousands, the system is fundamentally incapable of self-policing.

148 idk what restructuring of the IC should look like, but their is compartmentalization of the coup plotters across the agencies.

This was evident as TopMen determined that Hillary should get the SpecialHandling team (coverup), and so did Trump, in the other direction (coup/attack on all his people).

The agencies seem infiltrated from the top down, with DeepState controlling POTUS assignments, going back to Eisenhower? Certainly back to Bush the original. But elder Bush was already on board with CIA malfeasance, imo.

I wish those IC in the field had mounted more of a resistance to the ongoing coup, but it could still be true that most in the field are still patriotic, and the compartmentalized 9th floor and Pentagon chiefs have established their own shadow HailHydra government, now being revealed. (we hope, tick tock)

Expect a 5 to 4 decision saying no. Gorsuch read liberally from the 2nd Circuit dissent by Judge Lynch, who will join Learned Hand as the most influential judge never to sit on SCOTUS

Lynch's reasoning is simple. You can't torture the meaning of ordinary words (sex does not mean sexuall orientation). Nor can you ignore obvious history. (Nobody was talking about gay rights in 1965). This reasoning has far reaching implications

I believe it is critical to address a problem at the level at which the problem arises, and not on some other level.

In this case, the problem arises at the personnel level. An organizational change does not address that problem; it would merely cause the personnel problem to exist in a different organizational structure.

Instead, a personnel problem has to be addressed as a personnel matter. There's nothing wrong intrinsically with any of these organizations (DoD, CIA, NSA, etc.) qua organizations; what's wrong with them arises from the personnel in them.

There has been a lot of cleaning already and more happening everyday. It will be an ongoing process to root out the remaining remnants but I suspect that is a good part of every discussion at Trump's cabinet meetings. There have been reports since almost the first day of people leaving the government in huge numbers. I suspect a lot more will leave voluntarily as this stuff is exposed.

And don't discount what Trump is doing with the courts. A lot of what had gone wrong with this country has been the left's co-opting the courts and installing activists instead of judges. Trump is remaking the courts and should have something like 160 federal judges done in the next couple months. If he gets two terms he will add to that including likely one if not more SC justices.

It's always a battle between those who want to live under the Constitutional government given us by the founders and those who want to tear it down. They made a lot of progress over the last 50-60 years but a lot of it is being unwound. If Trump gets 5 more years he could set them back decades.

Once upon a time, we had competing agencies.

You could send the Marines to arrest an Army General.

You could send Federal Marshalls, to arrest FBI.

You had the Defense Intelligence folks, who could spy for you on the CIA if needed.

The only points where those competing agencies met, was the President himself.

Now, we have the Army and Marines as Joint Commands.

CIA and Def Intell folks all report to the National Security Advisor.

And the FBI and Fed Marshalls all work for DOJ.

We merged all those services in everything but name, so we have no competing agencies anymore.

The question is never "should I play by the rules?" The question is, "How far can I go in breaking the rules and not getting caught and wrecking myself?"

Washington would go to YouTube to watch interviews of Lincoln on the Sunday morning political talk shows to flesh out Lincoln's thoughts on the matter.

216 I think this is one difference in the way we see this. You think the coup plotters are a small cadre at the top - and I think that's accurate. Where we diverge, is that you believe it's confined there, where I think it is representative of corruption extending throughout the IC and federal LE.

I think we're looking at something much, much bigger than a remnant.

In the 50s and the 60s we used to characterise such takeovers of government ad military juntas, we should name the current uprising as bureaucratic juntas simply because US is not an isolated case. Look at UK and every country within the EU.

217 More fun with impeachment numbers:

There are 19 GOP senators from the 11 southern states which seceded. (This OMITS the 2 GOP senators from KY, in which secession is in the eye of the beholder.)

Assuming that the 19 southern state GOP senators vote against impeachment, than the DEMs would need to get 20 of the other 34 GOP senators to vote for it.

Dream on, DEMs.

222 The fact that there "plotters" were able to pull off what they did and continued to do for so long makes me ask what happened to the guy(s) who found out and didn't go along? The fact that no one apperantly said "WTF?!!" and spilled the beans or publicly is indicitive of the mindset of the employed-for-life civil servants. Everyone who knew went along for the ride.

Nonsense. I've been saying this for decades, I didn't just stumble onto it a few weeks ago.

But without control at the top the ones at the lower levels are much less potent. They can be identified, isolated and removed. Not always as rapidly as we want because of civil service rules but it's being done. The former ambassador of Ukraine is a prime example.

No, I never bought into the "we are never going to vote ourselves out of this", "civil war starts tomorrow" stuff because it's silly. If Trump gets 8 years we will indeed have voted ourselves out of this. All it took was having the right guy in charge and we got him.

Just remember, what can't go on will not go on. A lot of people are waking up to the corrupt civil servants and eventually they will go the way of the "good old boys".

I noticed that Hollywood is not making any more shows about good cops, good social workers etc because they would be laughed off the air.

Don't know what you're referring to.

Do you know many of them? They'd be right at home here, mostly. The ones who investigate bank robberies and mail fraud. Not the ones on the Seventh Floor, back at the Hoover Bldg.

231 Local and state police need to stop cooperating with the FBI. Young people need to be made into pariahs if they go to work for the IC. And, as painful as it is to write, our children and grandchildren should be discouraged from military service.

It is easy to imagine the first item will provoke a violent federal response, but it is necessary as things now stand.

233 I read this yesterday and was somewhat impressed that a dyed-in-the-wool lefty got things at least half right. Unfortunately, as usual I wanted to reach into the monitor and grab him by his GD neck and shake some sense into him the other half of the piece.

How is it that people--especially an ostensible journalist--can after all this time still be so f**king lazy that they just parrot mindless talking points? Quid pro quo? Are you so goddamned stupid that you didn't even read the transcript of the call that revealed that Trump is after the truth of 2016? Did you just read the MSM version of the transcript missing the 548 words? WHAT GODDAMNED QUID PRO QUO? And there was no ask to "dig up dirt on Biden" either. Lazy, lazy, lazy or lefty, lefty, lefty? Both?

Are you so f**king twisted by ideology that you cannot admit that it is absurd that Biden being Trump's political opponent does NOT confer immunity from investigation of corruption? If they didn't want Trump to investigate his political rival then Biden shouldn't have chosen to campaign for president. Then he could have been investigated as a former vice president instead whose son landed a few million dollars from Burisma for no apparent reason. So, is this the new rule? Run for office and you cannot be investigated? How come this rule didn't pertain to Trump in 2016?

And Matt, what's with the other glib assertions of Trump's corruption (it's a given, of course!)? What specifically are you claiming? What evidence would you care to adduce? Emoluments? Something that he must be hiding in his tax returns--even though he's been audited by the IRS every year for decades?

Taibbi came as close as any true lefty I've yet seen to admitting the truth. I guess he can't take the last step all the way over to reality without having his commie card revoked.

Typically they are not in country - duh.
If he means shadow government they typically have shadow office place holders. Who are known e g. British system.

Only thing he gets right: Trump is target. His life is in greater danger than our peace of mind.
