The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg
"The least credible statements coming out of Los Vegas are those of Paddock's immediate family. They never saw it coming and it's all a big mystery to them. Yeah, right. The father was a psychopathic career criminal with multiple fake names and 27 known residences. He escaped from prison twice and was on the FBI's most wanted list for years. He obviously taught his son everything he knew."

Have you ever seen a statement that is so monumentally dumb that it actually proves the opposite point of what it actually intended?

ana marie cox - gun rights voting rights.jpg
So, rephrasing her rhetorical question, would I be in favor of the same extensive system of identity verification and background checking for voting that is required for gun purchases?

Attention all Liberals:

gun control south side.jpg

I know ace covered this yesterday, but my version has more covfefe: Bill that would make abortions illegal after 20 weeks gets Trumpís backing

The White House “strongly supports” the Republican efforts to “secure critical pro-life protections” and believes “America’s children deserve the stronger protections” that the bill would provide.

“The bill, if enacted into law, would help to facilitate the culture of life to which our Nation aspires,” the statement said. “Additionally, the bill would promote a science-based approach to unborn life, as recent advancements have revealed that the physical structures necessary to experience pain are developed within 20 weeks of fertilization.”

I think the bill is most likely not going to pass, eventually. But I like the fact that it's even in consideration, and I love the White House's supporting statement.

I think this is one battle we're winning. Very slowly, inch by inch, the idea that it's OK to murder unborn babies is being brought into disrepute. Aided greatly by improvements in technology and medical knowledge, the pro-life position is looking more reasonable, and the pro-death cabal is sounding increasingly shrill and hysterical as they continue to double down on their all-abortion-all-the-time-anytime position. The leering visage of Moloch standing behind them is becoming more and more apparent.

And this is what I meant by improved technology. It's a commercial, which I think came out 10+ years go, extolling the virtues of GE's 3-dimensional ultrasound imaging. When I first saw it, I thought it would break the back of the abortion industry. Perhaps that's an exaggeration, but I think it really is a great commercial:

At one point, if you were laid off and a member of the UAW, they had a program where you would go, sit in a room all day and collect your FULL paycheck. For doing NOTHING.

I think that's what they do at the FBI, at least in terms of any investigation that might involve "big business" or "politics." Lots of agents in a room, playing games on their phones, waiting for a call from "Sessions."

36 I think the reason that the gun-control crowd has been on its heels for the last couple of decades is precisely because its arguments are routinely dumb (e.g., it is harder to buy a book than a gun; it takes 6 months to get an x-ray but minutes to buy a gun). Everyone knows what they are saying is false, and their arguments are so dumb that no one can pretend otherwise. It is completely ineffective rhetorically.

Many years ago my attorney brother-in-law tried to flee the country with several million dollars of his clients' money. (He made it out of the country; the money did not.) This was a big deal, obviously, and the FBI investigated. It even made the front page of the WaPo's metro section.

The article detailed all that was going wrong in his life - an upcoming hearing with the state bar association's ethics committee, an investment property that was going into foreclosure, his wife recently filed for divorce - and then came the statement from his receptionist, "I'm just shocked! I have no idea why he would do this!"

66 I like how the WH statement on the abortion bill points out that we are only one of 7 countries that allow an abortion that late in the term.

And I also like the framing that it's about banning abortions when the baby can feel pain.

Because that point, the pain, is the biggest hurdle and the biggest reason women do not go through with an abortion.

PP has spent a bunch of time and money on training and finding euphemisms to convince the mother that the "clump of cells" won't feel a thing.

The mother's know it's a baby. They know it will feel pain. They need the lie to go through with it.

True, but I think there's a much more important point is that allowing access to guns and doing a thorough voter ID check amount to the same thing, not opposite things.

If you impede/restrict my access to guns (or abuse such background check regulations), you are depriving me of a Constitutional right. If you allow anyone to vote without verification, you are depriving me of my sovereignty. In both cases you are stealing from citizens something that is guaranteed to them.

Now he's a flaming leftist Never-Trumper and essentially supports 40-Persyn Sexual Harrasment Teams himself. This is just how far our Nat/Sec--Law Enforcement has been degraded.

I just re-read the FBI's disgusting political whitewash statement on the Democrat Ball Field Assassin.

They dismissed it all as a fluke. Fanatic? No--just disgruntled. His maps and photos? Meaningless. Securing a room near the ball field? Coincidence. His hit list of congressmen? We're not going to tell you if they were Republicans or Democrats. Which means they were all Republicans.

The FBI has no credibility. I don't trust them to honestly tell me this guy's motives. I hope Director Wray can change the culture, but right now it has ClintonStench upon it.

As for Gun Control; Look at the astounding level of Big Government/Deep State abuse, coercion and criminality.

Very hard to say. I mean, there have been leaks, a lot of them actually. I mean we have the shooter's death photo and a lot of pictures from inside the crime scene.

What is weird is that there is so little said about the shooter's background. Stuff that must be known. Some of the inconsistent reporting must have clarified answers. It seems highly likely that he left behind an explanation - that his motivation is known. I mean, if the guy was screaming Allahu akbar while shooting and we had that on tape, they'd be saying that they don't know the motivation, which is the same thing they are saying now.

There are many weird things here. The whole gold digger situation looks weird, but then again this is Vegas. A high roller hostess shacks up with a millionaire who gambles a lot? I mean how weird is that?

We can't seize their guns because the gun lobby has warned them that we want to seize their guns?

She was around 21 and still lived at home. Her parents were there and we got randy and I lived a long way away, so...

The cops took her aside and asked her if she was there against her will, i.e. being raped. She told them no and the cops told me to take it elsewhere, stat, and that he'd be back to check later and we'd best be long gone.

212 My wife is a physician, and she explained the 20 weeks thing to me. 20 weeks seems to be the threshold where some severe birth defects can be first detected. Abortions at that stage are extremely rare. Usually, if a couple knows that they have a high risk of the fetus carrying one of those defects, testing is done at that point to determine if they want to go through with the pregnancy.
As I understand it, nobody gets an abortion at 20 weeks casually. They do it only when forced to make a heartbreaking choice. The result of the 20 week ban will be that parents with a known risk of serious fetal defects will have to make those decisions before the presence of the defect can be reliably determined. I get that some people believe that having a child with severe birth defects is some sort of punishment from God, but most people believe such things are due to chromosomal defects or other conventional explanations.

240 That is so calm and efficient compared to the blather on 4chan (but that may just be because I don't understand 4chan yet)
---

This is how I see 4chan /pol/:

Imagine 1.000 people from around the world, mostly men under 30 who are kind of hyper from ADD meds, talking smack in a big room. There are really only two major conversation categories:

Hate and Politics.

People wander from group to group, weighing in on various hate topics, and on various political topics.

However, some people are very autistic, and spend a lot of time on ONE topic, and do a lot of research on it that might or might not be accurate.

That's 4chan /pol/

I can believe the gf's side of the family is sane and normal. Paddock's brother, though, came off as shifty, disingenuous, and obviously wished he didn't have to deal with any of it. He *knew* his brother was a loose cannon and he *knew* something like this would eventually happen, so don't give me any of that "we didn't know" crap. I'm not blaming Paddock's immediately family for the actions of Stephen, but I doubt what he did surprised them very much.

So can Congress simply pass this right now? They can call it the Reasonable Restrictions on Constitutional Rights Act which requires that those seeking to buy guns need to show proof of citizenship . . . AND so do those trying to exercise their right to vote.

That's reassuring to hear. Maybe a contributing factor is that in the last 10-15 years the abortion activists have stopped pretending that they want it "safe, legal, and rare." After 200 we started seeing columns in MSM about 'hwy I selectively aborted two of my triplets" with justification along the lines of being an urban gal, with she and her partner not wanting to have to move to the suburbs and shopping at Costco. They now want abortion with no restrictions, right up to delivery date, and some have even said they're OK with the idea that they're killing a baby (not fetus).

She was married twice before - concurrently. Both times, marriage was in Vegas.

She has different names and ages on different immigration and other government docs - she could be anywhere from 55 - 69. I suspect that false info on immigration paperwork is a good lever to get her to talk.
