Good News, Crap News

Hi everyone.

Good news first: Minx is open for migration, as of right now.

If you don't mind a fairly standard Minx layout - see my site, mee.nu itself, AZ Resident, Brickmuppet for some samples - I can get you up and running very quickly.

Also, it's easier if you don't use CPanel or your mu.nu email address; it will be another few days before I have CPanel and Minx playing nicely together. If you don't mind losing CPanel just for a few days I can move you right away and enable CPanel later.

If you'd like me to do all the work and just hand you the keys to a shiny new Minx version of your blog, all you have to do is post here or email me at andrew -at- pixymisa -dot- net. Posting in Minx is very much like MT, except there's a fancy WYSIWYG editor, so you can get going in your new blog very easily.

There are twenty standard themes you can choose from: Blue, Green, Grey, Orange and White just have colour gradients for the banner (see Brickmuppet for an example); Beans, Bug, Butterfly, Cheese, Chips, Clover, Fire, Gargoyle, Green Tomatoes, Ireland, Mountains, Rosebud, Saltnpepper, Sunrise and Sunset have nice photos (see AZ Resident for an example of the Fire theme). (I'll post examples of all the themes shortly.)

You can switch between 1, 2 and 3-column layouts at the flick of, well, a switch, so no problems on that score.

I'll also be available to help converting existing layouts and stylesheets and banners and so on.

If you'd like to do the work yourself you can export from MT and import into Minx. Again, just comment or email me and I'll set you up for that.

Oh yes, one other thing: I need to get the number of page impressions and ad views up for mee.nu and mu.nu to attract advertisting (and hence, money!) If you're willing to have a small banner add on your site (see my site), let me know. I'm more than happy to split the revenue with you, or if you're not interested in that (for smaller bloggers it might only be a few dollars here and there), we can pool the money and donate it to a charity. (I'm thinking the American Red Cross or Doctors Without Borders, but I'm open to suggestions.)

And now for the crap news: We have a hacker defacing mu.nu blogs. Several blogs have been hit already. I've restored them all, but it's possible that more attacks will occur. If you see anything untowards, please let me know right away.

Just another reason to move to Minx, I guess. :|

1 Personally I'm ready to jump over, but a couple peeps wanted to see how my old template moves. Not that I'm attached to it, I just don't know what else to do as far as templates go. heh.

I don't use cpanel at all (scary isn't it) and I don't use a mu.nu email addy at all.

So here's the thing - I could mess about with doing the export and import myself over the weekend. I don't know if I'll have time before Saturday (I've been very bad and reading blogs tonight instead of getting work done). If I'm doing it myself, can I pull the template and everything?

Posted by: Teresa @ at September 21, 2007 03:17 AM

2 You'd need to convert the template; Minx templates are similar to MT templates in structure, but completely different in detail.

The easiest thing might be for me to set you up with a standard layout, and then you can tinker with the template. You can create a secondary template to tinker with while normal users see the standard one, and then just switch when you're happy.

Posted by: Pixy Misa @ at September 21, 2007 03:29 AM

3 Okay - sounds like a plan. BTW - we are keeping our mu.nu addys right? Sorry, I've been writing code and it's midnight so the brain is a bit fuzzy.

Posted by: Teresa @ at September 21, 2007 04:07 AM

4 Yep, you keep your mu.nu address.

I'll set it up today, and load everything except the last few posts. Then you can take a look, and if you're happy I'll load the latest posts (with the latest comments) and switch you over.

Posted by: Pixy Misa @ at September 21, 2007 04:16 AM

5 See how tired I am... I was also going to say - if you want, you can stick an ad on mine (not that you'll get much from my little bit of traffic - but the more the merrier right?) .

Posted by: Teresa @ at September 21, 2007 04:23 AM

6 Thanks Teresa.

When I created the new layout I tried to make the ad simultaneously prominent - it's in the top left corner of the page - and unobtrusive - it's a standard-sized element of the header. I think it works pretty well.

That's the only ad I'll be putting on the blogs, by the way: one standard-sized banner. It's enough to cover costs once mee.nu gets to a reasonable size (and maybe even make a little money!), and doesn't annoy the hell out of our readers.

Posted by: Pixy Misa @ at September 21, 2007 04:31 AM

7 Rocket Jones is a go. Minx, banner ad, etc.

Go ahead and do TedLab while you're at it, so I'll have someplace to play and get messy.

And thanks again for cleaning up after the hackers last night.

Posted by: Ted @ at September 21, 2007 09:55 AM

8 Oh, one other thing...

Remember during the great server migration, when there was some hiccup between character sets and our older posts were riddled with special characters instead of single quotes and such?

Any chance that the auto-migrate can scan and clean that up?

I'm sure that's not high priority, but it seems like a good time to deal with it.

Posted by: Ted @ at September 21, 2007 10:01 AM

9 Will do, Ted.

And yep, the Minx import function cleans up those nasty character set glitches. Most of them, anyway.

Posted by: Pixy Misa @ at September 21, 2007 10:29 AM

10 Teresa, I've got your blog safely across, but I seem to be having a little cookie problem. I'll get that sorted out tonight, and then hand things over to you.

Posted by: Pixy Misa @ at September 21, 2007 10:30 AM

11 Move me.

Lock stock and barrel.

I'll run the ad and you can donate the proceeds to the Pixy Misa pie foundation.

Posted by: Stephen Macklin @ at September 21, 2007 11:13 AM

12 Halp!?!
I wanna move cotillion.mu.nu over to mee.nu--I don't care about the template; plain ol' generic is good.
Whaddo I need to do?

I'll put up the ad at the mu/mee.nu site for ya too, if you send me the code!

Posted by: Beth @ at September 21, 2007 02:09 PM

13 WooHoo - can't wait. Many many thanks Pixy. Buy yourself a nice little present with the $1 or so you'll make off my blog ad - LOL.

Posted by: Teresa @ at September 21, 2007 02:15 PM

14 Stephen and Beth - will do.

Teresa's site loaded up painlessly (though I need to automate things a bit more) so thing should go very quickly once I squash my cookie bug.

Posted by: Pixy Misa @ at September 21, 2007 03:41 PM

15 I'm the very very adventurous type... MOVE ME PIXY... I'll work out the kinks later but I'm excited about the move. will the same passwords etc. work? I can do without Cpanel for a long while if need be.

Posted by: GM Roper @ at September 21, 2007 05:43 PM

16 Oh goodie! Just let me know how to get to it... *grin*

Posted by: Teresa @ at September 21, 2007 08:04 PM

17 You can move me when ever you have the free time. I'd just like the shiny new keys. You can also put a banner at the top of mine as well.

If you could, can we have the layout stay as close as possible to the way it is now? If not let me know, I'm willing to compromise.

26 so what Jimmy choo sale shoes are suit for you?do you really know it? as we all know that different person will fit the different shoe size conversions.so here we have the standard of the shoe's size conversions for you to choose which size is the best for your foot,so you will buy a right Jimmy choo sale shoes and a pair of shoes that suit for you. please note the below:

Shoo, Jimmy choo sale ! is geared toward women between the ages of 20 and 40, but no matter what your age is, you will certainly get something out of it. Im planning to pass my copy on to my 18 year-old daughter. Taming your financial demons can be done at any age, but the sooner the better. Hill will help get you started with style, diet and fitness for your finances. She takes each and expands upon them in four sections.

I've never known a season like it. Women's shoes are higher, strappier and more impractical than ever, and they're walking (excuse the pun) out of stores as fast as Jimmy choo sale shop assistants can wrap them.

Weve been talking a lot recently about the on ongoing trend for delicate sandals with huge ankle straps, and heres another example of that look, courtesy of Jimmy choo sale .
