Obama: Hey America, Suck My Dick

Obama vows that no matter how badly Obamacare fails, and no matter how many people it harms, he's not repealing it. Ever.

Meanwhile, for the first time ever, Obama's RCP job approval has fallen below 40%.

A Megan McArdle column argues that Obama has given up on trying to make Obamacare work, per se; he's only attempting to keep it alive through the 2015 midterms.

The administration has given up on success, as it might once have defined it. The object is no longer 7 million people signed up through the exchanges, with 2.7 million of them young and healthy, and the health-care cost curve bending back toward the earth. It is to keep the program alive until 2015. The administration's priorities are, first, to keep Democrats from undoing the individual mandate or otherwise crippling the law; second, to keep insurers from raising premiums or exiting the marketplace; third, to tamp down loose talk about the failures on the exchanges; and, only fourth, to get to the place where it used to think it would be this year, with lots of people signed up for affordable insurance. It is now measuring the program’s success not by whether it meets its goals, but by whether it survives at all. And all of its choices are oriented toward this new priority.

You can see this in the decisions the administration made about fixing HealthCare.gov: It focused on the part that voters can see, even though the part that accurately transmits data to insurers is arguably more important -- is it better, or actually worse, to “sign up” a bunch of people when you can’t get that information to the insurers who need to write the actual policies? You can see it in the strategic delays, particularly the delay of the open enrollment deadline until after the 2014 elections....

From the administration's perspective, this makes a lot of sense. A program that survives until 2015 can hopefully be fixed. A program that is fatally damaged by Democratic or insurer defections definitely can’t. The question is whether the public will embrace this new way of measuring the program’s success … and what happens if it doesn't.

A frequent guest on Megyn Kelly's show, Chris Stirewalt (I believe), has explained all of Obama's moves: Buy time. It's that simple. Everything he does (and, in fact, virtually everything he's ever done as President) is about buying time. Putting off hard decisions. Telling the public lies which will hold for a news cycle and hope that the ultimate price to be paid for determined serial deception will be minimal.

All of these dilatory tactics are common among failures, criminals, and liars. They don't want to pay the price for their actions; and, rationally speaking, who could blame them?

People who put off difficult decisions are hoping, in the end, that some Miracle intervenes between the present moment and the Day of Accounting to spare them that accounting entirely.

I'm not certain what miracle Obama thinks is on the way. I don't think people will grow to like the fact that they are spending an extra $300 on insurance every single month, forever. Progressives like to euphemize this as a "disruption;" it's not a disruption, as a disruption implies a limited-duration event which will soon pass. The ObamaTax will be levied on every single taxpayer from now until the bill is repealed.

But he seems to be counting on people doing just that, deciding they don't mind they were lied to constantly and are now being swindled out of $1000-$10,000 per year, every single year, until they day they die.

So like a chronic gambler, or a downgoing drunk, he just keeps putting off the day of reckoning, doubling down on bad bets and unsustainable lies, hoping someone, somewhere bails him out of a jam.

64 Ace,

I disagree to a certain extent with your analysis.

Obama is a community organizer first and foremost.

Being a rather stupid individual, he'll always fall back on that.

The job of a community organizer is to hold the line behind the scenes, to be the radical holding things together until "The Man" gives in.

In this case, "The Man" is the American public.

The loss of insurance is a feature because if there's nowhere to go but Obamacare, if he holds the lie long enough- "The Man" will go to obamacare.

It's a matter of increasing the pain enough till they give in before "his side" gives in.

This is what community organizers do- they disrupt a business until it gives in.

Same same - he is the worst possible person to be President. The weak-spined Republicans better learn quickly to play for keeps because he will destroy this country otherwise.

68 Can't say I'm surprised. He's trapped and now he has to live or die with Obamacare and so does every Dem in Congress.

And the fun hasn't even started. Obamacare is not about health care its about health insurance. And government control over health insurance guarantees one thing, there will be less access to doctors for everyone.

If Obama and the other goons who designed this disaster had done the least bit of research into Medicare and Medicaid they would have known that the biggest problem with both programs is that fewer and fewer doctors are taking new patients. And now we are going to jam 40+ million more people into these government programs.

That doesn't even deal with the people who can no longer see their current doctor and now will be looking for a new one only to find there are few if any available.

Own Barry, Nancy, Harry and the rest of you liberal freaks.

Even without an actual impeachment, when people actively consider it a possibility it takes away power from Obama. That is, when you make the threat to bend over or impeach, the people realize they have no power at all. I don't think the current crop of republican leadership will make much noise in this repect, but it can make people more likley to give people like Cruz a listen, and make democrats less likely to be willing to be seen as supporting Obama on issues.

One thing that helps me explainObama is to recall that he's a lawyer. But, as is all too typical of political lawyers, he's a lawyer who has never tried a case. What does that mean for explaining why he seems to be failing now?

1. Credibility. A trial lawyer knows that, from the moment he walks into the Court for the first scheduling conference with the judge, he has to maintain his credibility. He can't be late to Court, he can't bring frivolous or unnecessary motions, he can't misrepresent case law, he can't elide important facts from his briefs, etc. He can't lie, period. For Obama, lying (more charitably, "bull-shitting") is a way of life. It is the attitude of the lawyer who doesn't actually ever have to go before a judge, the lawyer who just sits around board rooms and talks to other lawyers.

2. Respect for different opinions. A trial lawyer must respect the positions even of his adversaries, because he must understand them in order to be able to defeat them. Moreover, the very fact that you're at trial means that someone (the opposing party) thinks your client has wronged him, and has found a lawyer who thinks your client has wronged him, and has persuaded the judge that there is enough of a case that your client has wronged him to go forward to a jury. When you are a trial lawyer, you realize, not just that there are two sides to every debate, but that both sides have at least some merit and, until the jury comes in, you really don't know which one is right. For Obama, any disagreement is the sign of mendacity or bad faith on the part of his adversaries. Because of that, he misses opportunities for compromise and creates a toxic political atmosphere, despite all of his vaunted claims to be "post-partisan."

3. Humility. When you're a trial lawyer, you lose a lot. Maybe not a lot of cases, but certainly a lot of motions. In my last jury trial (which I won), I lost a motion to dismiss, a motion for summary judgment, and a raft of motions in limine. I was right in the end, but I wasn't nearly as right as I thought, and it was a close-run thing. Obama's never had a trial that he lost, or a motion that he lost. He was an academic... he lived in a world where no one loses. And, in politics, he had a safe seat in the Illinois State Senate, a walk-over election to the U.S. Senate, an easy election to the Presidency (comparatively), and a fairly easy re-election as the incumbent. When did he ever have to learn humility?

4. Keeping promises.Rule No. 1 of trial practice is that, if you promise something to the jury -- if you stand up in opening argument and say that "the evidence will show X" or "the witness will testify that Y" -- well, you had better make good on that promise, or they'll hold it against you. Obama's promises on Obamacare -- "if you like your doctor, you can keep him" or "if you like your plan, you can keep your plan, period" -- haven't come true. And the American people, like a jury, remember that.

5. Don't be boring. Finally, real trial lawyers understand that even Clarence Darrow won't keep a jury's attention for very long. A ten minute opening that says something directly and forcefully is better than an hour-long opening that bores the jury. A fifteen-minute cross examination that eviscerates the credibility of a key witness for the other side is better than an hour-long cross that meanders through documents and topics, even if it covers the points better and in more detail. Don't bore them, don't waste their time, they've got better things to do. Obama has never realized this. No one (his mother? his grandparents? his teachers? his professors?) ever told him anything other than how brilliant he is as an "orator." But juries don't like orators, they like lawyers who get to the point and get them out of the box and home to their families.

The American people are Obama's judge and jury in this scenario. And he has proved to be a terrible advocate, even for his own legacy program, Obamacare.

"Progressive intellectuals had criticized the Constitution and advanced the doctrine of the administrative state, and the New Deal had attempted to put Progressive theory into practice. But the administrative state was not institutionalized within the framework of American politics until Congress reorganized itself in the late 1960s and early ’70s,fundamentally altering the separation of powers and the federal system."

192 Chris Stirewalt (I believe), has explained all of Obama's moves: Buy time. It's that simple. Everything he does (and, in fact, virtually everything he's ever done as President) is about buying time. Putting off hard decisions. Telling the public lies which will hold for a news cycle and hope that the ultimate price to be paid for determined serial deception will be minimal.

All of these dilatory tactics are common among failures, criminals, and liars

---

I have a friend in law enforcement. Logging in criminals, interviewing them, often just chatting with them from one poitn in the system to the next.

He says that there is a common feature to all criminal classes -- nonstop lying to get out of the immediate crisis. And then lying again one minute later to get out of the crisis you just created. Etc. And the telltale feature is that the cumulative lies are inherent self-cancelling.

The process usually goes like this, as a perfect example:

"Did you shoot that guy?"

"No! I wasn't even in town -- I was in L.A visiting my mother. So I couldn't have shot him."

"But we have you on video near the crime scene immediately after the shooting."

"Well, I was nearby, but I was fucking my girlfriend, so it couldn't have been me."

"We just interviewed your girlfriend, and she says she dumped you a month ago."

"I don't even know how to shoot a gun! How could I have shot the guy?"

"It says on your record you already have two gun convictions."

"Yeah, but I loaned my gun to my friend Larry, so it must have been him."

"Larry's already been cleared of any involvement."

"How could I have fired the gun? It got jammed. Didn't work at all."

"Ballistics prove the bullet came from this gun."

"The other dude fired first! Therefore it was self-defense."

"The victim did not have a weapon on him."

"It was an accident! I swear! I just meant to wave the gun at him and threaten him. I don't know how it went off. I wasn't aiming it at him."

"Two witnesses hear someone threaten he was going to shoot the victim."

"The fucker deserved it! He stole my stash!"

The guy just told eight distinct lies, but they all cancel each other out.

You see, a clever liar might also tell eight lies, but they would be coordinated, and self-supporting, and possibly construe a believable alibi.

But my friend says these gys are NEVER clever liars. They are always self-defeating "emergency liars," who just lie with no foresight to escape the question at hand.

If they were clever, however, they wouldn't need to commit crimes, and if they were clever criminals, they likely wouldn't get caught.

Obama is one of those desperate emergency liars.

He has no plan. Not even a coordinated plan of deception.

193 People are not going to get used to it. It's not about the insurance, its about doctors.

Right in the law is a 24% cut in reimbursements to doctors for both Medicare and Medicaid. Remember that $700 billion that Romney/Ryan said was being taken from Medicare to help pay for this crap? Boom, there it is. And it hits January 1, 2014. The only way around this is for Congress to pass another Doc Fix. That is becoming increasingly hard to do since, ya know, we are fucking broke.

Doctors have been running from Medicare and Medicaid for years because of the shitty reimbursement rates the government gives. This is going to put a super charger on that effort at a time when millions and millions of new people are being dumped into these programs.

Disaster.

Yes, there it is. The dreaded "I' word that our framers purposely inserted into our Constitution. This is exactly the type of lawless, oath breaking, mendacious, despotic tyrant they anticipated when crafting that section.

Yet, we hear nothing? Why? Because that is unthinkable by the permanent political class in Washington who put their own self interest above ours. They opine or imply it would be perhaps racist or politically risky- and who is less apt to risk what they believe is their coming political electoral fortune.

We don't have anyone in Washington who stands for the Constitution or rule of law. Nobody with a set of stones or the moxie to stand up for the people and what is right. Just a bunch of self-serving oligarchs or oligarchs-in-waiting. They don't fight for anyone but themselves.

250 The biologic that my husband will almost certainly be going onto next month is $1,197/week.

I don't have to tell you that we don't have that sort of money. They're priced at that level because the insurance companies pay for them and people with really comprehensive plans basically subsidize the cost for people who have less comprehensive plans.

People who don't have insurance get Arthritis Mutilans.

274 This law is not here to stay. The nation of its inevitability is propaganda at its most Stalinist. If the Rs win the Senate in 2014 and the White House in 2016, it is gone. I don't think we've quite seen an event like Obamacare. Even before the nuclear option, 80% of the law could be repealed through reconciliation. Now that the filibuster is basically gone, it is even easier. But I think if the Rs end up with all three branches in 2016 then there needs to be revenge, not just a return to the status quo, but things that would be hard for a liberal to reverse. Some suggestions:
1 Cutting income taxes to their 1980s level.
2 Privatizing a post office which loses billions and employs 500,000 employees with tax dollars. Keeping a minority stake will actually earn money for the Feds.
3 Voluntary personal SS accounts.
4 Moving the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem

Lots of people make their first payment for their newObamacare policy. Right about the time the Christmas bills come in the mail.

What's gonna happen in February:

Nobody makes the second payment on their Obamacare policy.

This is what set off the mortgage crisis, people were getting repeated refinances and all of a sudden half of them didn't make a second payment and went straight to default. A fair number never even made the first payment.

When we lived in Germany back in the day, my dad drove our only car to work on base. My mom shopped in the commissary on Saturday, which was the only place to buy American-made food. Same on most European (and Pacific) bases. It's going to hurt military families who don't always have access to off-base shopping (if they have one vehicle).

Anything that you need is going to continue to rise in price, food, energy, health care, medicine, healthcare insurance...

Its always opposite of what the TFG says, he says help the middle class means there is an absolute war on the middle class.... people worried about food are less of a problem to them.

So they are currently forcing 2 choice on the middle class (people with assets) either submit yourself to the exchange for subsidies and get reduced care, identity theft and subject to govt whims or stay with private insurance and pay thru the nose until you are bankrupt and then go to the exchange.

War on the Middle Class is what the Leftists always do.

Totally agree, IF it gets better. This Christmas is going to be a bust, no one can budget health costs.

Then the Obama Care mess will continue.

Stock market is only high because there is no other place to park money that makes ANY interest above inflation.... thanks to the Fed Res folks...

Artificial.

The only real economic numbers to watch are Average Household income... and how many folks are Working (not the fake unemployment numbers).

Maybe watch Capital goods... but most other numbers are being artificially inflated by the Fed printing money.... which will bite the dollar eventually (already has, real inflation is at about 5%, not the advertised 1.5%....)

Economy out here in Flyover America is still sucking....

Yeah.... and telling that lie is a Democrat tradition.

It was already against the law to throw people off their insurance if they got sick.... 1997.... and HIPAA ...

And in most States a Pre existing condition was not covered for the first 6 months, but then would be paid for by the Insurance Company...

And most States also had subsidized High Risk Pools, for those who fell through the Cracks.

But I guess if you repeat a Lie enough times, people will believe it...

443 Insurance counts (or would if the BLS wasn't full of lying sacks of weasel crap) toward Cost of Living increases.

Let's say Joe Sixpack earns $60k, he's gonna need a 6% raise to get that $3600 back - gross.

Of course, Joe pays state and federal income taxes, so he's gonna need closer to a 9% raise, just to break even.

So .. anyone think Joe's boss is gonna hand out 9% raises this year? 6%? Any raise at all? Me either.

462 "I don't think people will grow to like the fact that they are spending an extra $300 on insurance every single month, forever."

Like it? No. Tolerate it, like $4 gas? Well, it's not like anyone has much of a choice. The JEF is banking on keeping it around long enough that the extra $300 becomes the new normal - again, just like $4 gas. So, of course, he and his claque in the MFM are doing the very best to manage perception, and rush people through the period of transition as quickly as possible.

464 "I'm not certain what miracle Obama thinks is on the way."

The miracle is that the Communists have taken over and will soon be in a position to stop going through the pretense that this is still a republic---it ain't. Obama is going nowhere in three years. Doe he act like he's concerned? No. Why not? Because he's not at all concerned. Notice how many Lefties have been trial-ballooning the idea out of a third term lately? It's the coming thing.

The ACA plan is doing exactly what it's supposed to do, and the point now is to temporize---try to keep the useful idots in the Democrat party---the ones that actuallly believe the bullshit he spews---from destroying the party until the left consolidates its power and comes out of the closet in 2016.

_America has been taken over._ One of these days, you guys are going to wake up and realize it. Right now, the idea is so mind-boggling no one dares to entertain it---they can't believe they are being boiled alive. The average joe is just now getting comfortable calling Obama a marxist. _Five years ago_, Obama was a marxist 5 years ago---_now_, he's a tyrant.

Posted by: asdf at December 03, 2013 11:13 PM (lKGzI)

465 The idea that Obama is some sort of brilliant genius is just Valerie Jarrett ooze. He's not even very bright, hence the reticence at allowing access to his college records: Bush, Gore, and Kerry all turned out to be C students as undergrads, the bar wasn't set very high.

He's a BS artist, that's all. A common street con man. Obama isn't competent at anything and cannot stand anyone who is. His one talent is campaigning and that relies on his BS. Which is why he always returns to the campaign trail instead of fixing problems or firing incompetents.

Posted by: Adjoran at December 03, 2013 11:36 PM (473jB)

466 Honestly, I'm not surprised by this. I think Obama would sooner die than voluntarily repeal this disaster. I do think that it will become so unpopular (the 2014 midterms could be an absolute bloodbath for the Democrats) that basically every single presidential candidate (in both parties) will have to run on outright repeal or at least a major overhaul. We'll see.

So what's a little lying about healthcare and catching some heat about it?

This is Obama's fundamental transformation of the United States that he was bragging about in 2008. The Federal Government will dictate to a company what price it will charge for it's product, and will force that company to remain in business

Fascism, straight up.

480 There isn't anything Obama won't say or do at this point, as he isn't running for reelection and has nothing but support from his own party. What does he care, the worst that can happen is that he will leave in three years to his prepaid mansion somewhere in Hawaii, or some Indonesian Island.
There was an article in the fantasy land of the Washington Post over the weekend about how the Obama's are considering staying in Washington once his term is over so that their youngest daughter can continue going to Sidwell Friends until she graduates. Supposedly, the Obama's are quoted as saying it will be Sasha's decision....Right.

Posted by: Jen at December 04, 2013 02:05 PM (z6rIp)

481 Obama isn't expecting a miracle to save him. He's depending on the same thing to rescue him that rescued him in the the 2008 election: a shocking Black Swan financial event that will panic Repubs in congress and cause him to look competent in comparison. This has been the purpose of the Fed's hijinks, and it will become clear in Feb or March how it plays out. Once again there will be a huge asset bubble pop, dramatic economic panic. This time probably currency rather than cdos and real estate. Once again Soros' friends and funds will benefit, the taxpayers will get screwed, the media will play along, and the Dems will return to the house a majority.
