Politico's Todd S. Purdum: Obamacare Was "Sabotaged" by a "Concerted" Republican "Conspiracy"

There you go.

To the undisputed reasons for Obamacare’s rocky rollout — a balky website, muddied White House messaging and sudden sticker shock for individuals forced to buy more expensive health insurance — add a less acknowledged cause: calculated sabotage by Republicans at every step.

That may sound like a left-wing conspiracy theory —

Nah, bro. Sounds perfectly reasonable.

-- and the Obama administration itself is so busy defending the indefensible early failings of its signature program that it has barely tried to make this case. But there is a strong factual basis for such a charge.

From the moment the bill was introduced, Republican leaders in both houses of Congress announced their intention to kill it. Republican troops pressed this cause all the way to the Supreme Court — which upheld the law, but weakened a key part of it by giving states the option to reject an expansion of Medicaid. The GOP faithful then kept up their crusade past the president’s reelection, in a pattern of “massive resistance” not seen since the Southern states’ defiance of the Supreme Court’s Brown v. Board of Education decision in 1954.

Did you just say "Brown v. Board of Education"?

The opposition was strategic from the start: Derail President Barack Obama’s biggest ambition, and derail Obama himself. Party leaders enforced discipline, withholding any support for the new law —

Usually called "opposing the law," which until now was not a conspiracy.

-- which passed with only Democratic votes, thus undermining its acceptance.

Yes. Undermining acceptance is what people opposed to a law do.

Partisan divisions also meant that Democrats could not pass legislation smoothing out some rough language in the draft bill that passed the Senate.

Yes, that's because Democrats passed it on a party-line vote, ignoring the Scott Brown 41st vote to stop it.

That left the administration forced to fill far more gaps through regulation than it otherwise would have had to do, because attempts — usually routine — to re-open the bill for small changes could have led to wholesale debate in the Senate all over again.

Yes, the Administration was forced to not compromise and declare unilateral executive power to change the law.

...

Then, in the months leading up to the program’s debut, some states refused to do anything at all to educate the public about the law.

Okay, I'm not quoting anymore. Next time you see "Todd S. Purdum" in a byline, know that he wrote this insanely partisan conspiracy-theory-without-an-actual-conspiracy.

Hear my prayer, O Bama, and with Thine ears consider my calling: hold not Thy peace at my tears.

For I am a stranger with Thee: and a sojourner, as all my fathers were.

O spare me a little that I may recover my strength: before I go hence and be no more.

I waited patiently for the Bama: and He inclined unto me, and heard my calling.

He brought me also out of the horrible pit, out of the mire and clay.

and set my feet upon the rock, and ordered my goings.

And He hath put a new song in my mouth: even a thanksgiving unto our Bama.

Many shall see it and fear: and shall put their trust in the Bama.

Why?

Because it confirms that they know too that it is a failure, and they acknowledge that ObamaCare is something about which someone should feels ashamed, not proud.

By blaming the GOP, they are essentially throwing ObamaCare under the bus.

Yess!!!

If it means that Obamacare is going away, then hell yeah, I'll take the blame for it.

That part right there, is the part the DEMOCRATS fear the most.

They are the ones who are so scared of even cracking the door on Obaaamacare that they prefer the absolute beating they are taking right now--and have since 2010.

That's the thing: The Republicans would love to reopen this. But Katy-bar-the-door if that happens--nothing is off the table then.

And that's what the Dems know; he just admitted it.

But if the"parts the public overwhelmingly support" actually have such, they should be safe, no?

That's the truth. And even on the right, there are many who buy that lie--there are no "parts the public overwhelmingly supports." They are overwhelming in that, "do you like pie?" manner. But when the question is "do you like pie and do you want to pay for my pie?" there is no support.

Todd S. Purdum, who over 30 years in journalism has fashioned a deserved reputation as one of the most perceptive reporters and elegant stylists of his generation, is coming to POLITICO in September. As you can appreciate, this arrival is wonderful news. Along with other moves we have made in recent months, this move underscores POLITICO’s commitment to producing the most ambitious and most sophisticated coverage of Washington—its people and its business.

He’ll do here what he has done throughout his career: Write stories that vividly capture people in the news and the combination of circumstances and motives that explain their actions. No one is better than Todd at describing mood and scene, and infusing coverage of contemporary events with a sense of historical context.

There is really only one way, and we're already doing it:

Simply don't purchase their magazines or newspapers, and don't visit their Web sites.

Without readers, their advertising revenue dries up, and the publication cannot survive, or must become smaller and less important.

This of course has been happening, little by little but relentlessly, for 20 years.

The media is vastly less powerful today than it was "in the old days." Yes, they still have the same size ego, but their real power is greatly diminishd.

Keep denying them sustenance.

As a bonus: mock, mock, mock, fisk fisk fisk, laugh laugh laugh. They rarely show their reaction to this, but trust me, they HATE it, and it demoralizes them.

129 from the end of Pudhead's aricle:

Obama himself has occasionally expressed frustration at the GOP’s
implacable resistance to even the smallest gestures of cooperation on
the law.

“In a normal political environment, it would have been easier for me
to simply call up the speaker and say, ‘You know what, this is a tweak
that doesn’t go to the essence of the law.’ It has to do with, for
example, are we able to simplify the attestation of employers as to
whether they’re already providing health insurance or not. ‘It looks
like there may be some better ways to do this. Let’s make a technical
change to the law.’

“That would be the normal thing that I would prefer to do,” the
president said. “But we’re not in a normal atmosphere around here when
it comes to Obamacare.’’[so all of a sudden Obama can't change the law without Congressional approval? I am shocked.]

These same people who claim that Republicans are nothing but mouth breathing knuckle draggers are now accusing them of being cold, calculating, evil masterminds of a sinister plot to derail our brave, young a First Black President's signature legislation because of racism and their ties to corporatists and banksters. There's a leftist meme floating around about how there's some 50+ "Republican" amendments that were included in the bill. So, that "proves" the Republicans are lying when they say they had no input on the bill.

Do I want to hunt that down and actually read what they are claiming and see if it's true?

No. Because they're fucking retarded and I've no interests in proving to a retarded parrot that he is indeed a retarded parrot.

Like I said the other day: They are fork-fucking stupid. It makes no sense, it can't feel good but, they've been told to fuck a fork and, by the heavens and Earth, they are going to fuck the shit out of that fork.

179 >>They've already offered the spin that Republicans are to blame for the website failing too. They had to rely on trusted campaign cronies to help build the site out of fear that the GOP would subpena them.

180 The presstitutes are getting uneasy because His Arrogance, Lord Obama just couldn't resist naming this boondoggle after himself, and that means even the LIVs consider it His mess.

First it was "Obamacare" because it was gonna be awesome.

Then it was "ACA" and "Obamacare" was racist because this is the Tinkerbell presidency and they didn't want the bad stuff to be associated with Obama.

Then they realized that they went all in on this thing and "Obama" is more popular (by far) than anything he actually does. So it became "Obamacare" again.

And now they're realizing their biggest fear: Obama is an epic failure.

Other than killing Bin Laden (whoopee), he's done nothing positive of note. His entire legacy is this horrible horrible thing.

They know it. And it's killing them.

I've been intermittently ranting about this. IIRC, portions of the bill were not actually typed up at the time that the final vote was held. How on earth can anyone know if the final typed version was the version voted upon because no one actually saw that version prior to the vote.

Less acknowledged? Sure, except that it's been trumpeted by all the traditional left wing hotshots as THE reason for the massive failure of absolutely everything to do with the program.

But whatevs.

Partisan divisions also meant that Democrats could not pass legislation smoothing out some rough language in the draft bill that passed the Senate.

That left the administration forced to fill far more gaps through regulation than it otherwise would have had to do, because attempts — usually routine — to re-open the bill for small changes could have led to wholesale debate in the Senate all over again.

Yes, isn't that awful? Your precious Demonrats would have had to actually earn their keep instead of making end runs around the Constitution to keep their beloved Boy King Sun God happy.

And by the way, one of those "routine" legislative changes of which you are so fond, Purdum, happened to be the change -- carried exclusively by Demonrat votes, not a single Republican -- that led to the massive cancellation of so many policies that would otherwise have been grandfathered. The Republicans didn't want to pass that particular item. Your sacred and holy Demonrats did.

matter in what shape it comes, whether from the mouth of a king who
seeks to bestride the people of his own nation, and live by the fruit of

I don't think "legal or illegal" is the right way to ask this. I can't imagine such a thing would be illegal. It's not like you're trying to buy heroin on the street. If an insurance company were to offer such a policy, and if hospitals and doctors are willing to accept such a policy to pay whatever portion it would pay for your care, then sure, go for it.

The problem is, there aren't going to be too many insurance companies offering these policies, most likely because there aren't going to be too many hospitals willing to accept them for payment.

That's going to be your biggest problem: access to care.

253 Stolen from the comments:

A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She lowered her
altitude and spotted a man in a boat below. She shouted to him, "Excuse
me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago,
but I don't know where I am."

The man consulted his portable GPS and replied, "You're in a hot air
balloon, approximately 30 feet above ground elevation of 2,346 feet
above sea level. You are at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and
100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude.

She rolled her eyes and said, "You must be a Republican.

"I am," replied the man. "How did you know?"

"Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is
technically correct. But I have no idea what to do with your
information, and I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help to
me."

The man smiled and responded, "You must be an Obama-Democrat."

"I am," replied the balloonist. "How did you know?"

"Well," said the man, "you don't know where you are -- or where you
are going. You've risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot
air. You made a promise you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me
to solve your problem. You're in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but somehow, now it's my fault ! "

336 I'm trying to understand this...

So, some unnamed Republican (Darth Cheney?) forced Michelle Obama to get this contract to her friend in Canada, and kept FLOTUS from realizing that said friend's firm was incompetent?

Or did the Republicans infiltrate said Canadian computer company and mess it up there?

Or did the Republicans blackmail everyone at computer company and all those working for Sebelius and make sure they never tested the site?

This is all very confusing. Especially when it's being attributed to the Party of Stupid.

TSA line= suicide bomber heaven. Why even try to get to the plane? There are LOTS of plane loads of people in the security line and there is absolutely no risk of detection before you get to the naked scanner.

354 My evolving evil firearm description - it was:

A fully-automatic rapid-fire high-powered military-style folding-stock silenced flash-suppressed 9mm 12-gauge Assault Glock AK-15 shotgun rifle.

With the shoulder thing that goes up, a bayonet, a compass in the stock, and this thing that tells time.

Loaded with high-capacity magazine banana clips full of Teflon 'cop-killer' bullet cartridges.

With the optional double-barreled over/under 40mm grenade launcher AND the flame-thrower.

And, it was BLACK (possibly 'WHITE-Black'), and in the 40 megawatt range.

I think CNN confirmed this...

357 It makes a little more sense to talk 'small bore' vs. 'large bore', I suppose. I generally think of all of the .22's as being small bore. In the case of such odd items (heh) as the .223, I would think 'small bore centerfire'. A bit too much for the MSM, I suppose. It's so much easier to say "High power assault rifle", not that they know the difference.
