New Hotness On The Left: Obamacare Was Sabotaged!!11!

Serious You Guys

If a group under siege can demonstrate “that there has been a conspiracy, which has transformed politics and society,” the British writer David Aaranovitch, astutely observed in Voodoo Histories, then they can convince themselves that “their defeat is not the product of their own inherent weakness or unpopularity, let alone their mistakes,” but is instead “due to the almost demonic ruthlessness of their enemy.”

This observation has screamed back into my mind this week as I watched the disastrous rollout of Obamacare’s much-vaunted health-care exchanges provoke apologists into spreading nonsense. Somewhere, deep down, the president’s allies must know that their man blew the launch — and blew it good. Nevertheless, some of the brighter members of the movement have caught themselves in a trap, responding to the widespread criticism of their signature achievement with the ludicrous allegation that it is being thwarted by outside forces — namely, Republicans and their donors. Indeed, even Barack Obama has proven susceptible.

In the course of a defiant speech at the White House, the president rode bravely into the realm of magical thinking: “It’s time for folks to stop rooting for its failure,” Obama said, adopting the panicked tones of a cheap infomercial salesman. Why? “Because hardworking middle-class families are rooting for its success.” For her part, Nancy Pelosi offered her own insinuation yesterday, suggesting that Republicans who continued to oppose the law were guilty of “sabotage.”

That piece is by Charles C.W. Cooke, so of course you should read the whole thing. He got a little ahead of himself, though

Amusingly, the president’s defiance has simultaneously inspired his base and irritated the press corps. Friendly journalists such as Ezra Klein, Greg Sargent, and Ryan Lizza have been brutally honest about the scale of the mess, while, in the alternative universe that progressive users of social media inhabit, frustrated defenders of the rollout have started to blame the usual suspects. Do a quick search on Twitter for the words “Koch sabotage” and you’ll find an astonishing number of results. The same goes for “Koch Obamacare” and “Koch ruined,” too.

... leading to this inevitable update:

They'll all come around eventually.

As for myself, I usually don't go in for these conspiracy theories. When Team Orca screwed that system up royally, there were those on the right who floated the theory that it must have been DDoS'ed or something, when in reality it was obvious that it was a botched rollout.

But in this case, there's something to this sabotage idea. And I only say that because the HQ has obtained an exclusive photo of the saboteur in action.

o-OBAMA-COMPUTER-facebook.jpg

That, right there, is the man who screwed up the federal exchanges. To paraphrase Hanlon's razor, never presume malice when incompetence is an adequate explanation ... and that guy is chock-full of incompetence.

Rush is hilarious. He explains why, legally, you don't have to pay even the obamacare penalty. Because the law is written that way. They aren't allowed to put a lien on your property, nor abscond your income. Only via a refund, can they take your money. And, the final nail in the coffin, they can't prosecute if you don't.

Is this really true? If so. Bizzaaarrooo world.

His summation:

Therefore, the only way that they can collect the penalty or the fine is by taking money from your refund. If you are not owed a refund, they cannot get money from you. They can't issue a lien. They can't garnish your wages. They can't use any of the normal procedures available to them if you owe them money, even though the Supreme Court has said it's a tax. So for those of us -- I mean, folks, I'm in fat city. I'm in fat city because I always structure to where I owe money. Well, not entirely. There have been years. But if you structure your taxes so that you do not get a refund, you do not have to buy insurance and you do not have to pay a fine 'cause they can't collect it from you if you don't have a refund due. And that is just another nail in the coffin of Obamacare imploding on itself.

@65Cool Czech made the point on Twitter recently that:

"We really need to stop making the bad website rollout the end-all of Obamacare criticism.

Websites will get fixed."

As the Dems pivot toward accusations of sabotage of the software and rollout, we should move to a more broad-based attack, primarily on the disingenuous pricing schemes and the imposition of high-cost insurance on the young.

180 Found this one out there ...

Here is the deal: Just yesterday on Facebook, a link shows up and
provides instructions for those familiar with computers on how to thwart
the law via computer hacking. Which leads to my next point;
Progressives, such as Klein may be doing a disservice by making such
grand statements, including the word 'disaster' as a descriptor for the
exchanges. How long have they been open? I mean, seriously!

Posted by: Docks Morgan at October 24, 2013 03:12 PM (e8kgV)

181 They're blaming Republican governors who didn't set up state exchanges for the federal one being "overloaded".

Neve rmind that the state exchanges are hosed too, largely because they rely on communication with the broken federal system.

Here in MN our idiot governor Dayton has been touting the 'success' of the MN exchange. The insurance companies called him out on it- turns out not a single person fully enrolled because the system for transmitting billing info is fucked.

That base used to be Naval Air Station Memphis and was home to almost all of the enlisted training for Aviation, as well as some P-3 squadrons. It also served as a place to move the aircraft from squadrons on the Gulf and East coasts during hurricanes.

Now it's called Naval Support Activity Memphis, and is home to the Navy's Bureau of Personnel (BUPERS), basically the Navy's HR department. So if the shooting had been actually on NSA Memphis, it probably wouldn't be because it's inland and in TN so much as probably because the guy that sent someone to Adak, Alaska or Diego Garcia works there.

I can identify with Hannity, when he talks about starting work at 13 (iirc), working a procession of shitty jobs, then he ticks off the money he made in those years. Straight up guy who hit the lottery, not by shelling out a dollar, but actually working hard.

If you ever wanted a perfect example of what we're up against, go read the story about how someone was supposed to have told Obama ""I cannot even stand to look at you,".

Dick Durbin passed this story along to the media and it was denied by the White House.

At the Huffington Post, this story is written up and, to their credit, they made if very clear that even though the congressional leader in question was Pete Sessions, the incident never happened.

To repeat, it never happened. Everyone in the room agrees, nothing like this took place.

Apparently, Deputy Chief of Staff Rob Nabors made up the story and told it to Harry Reid, who then told it to Durbin. And just because the lying was going so good, Reid also told people about how dignified Obama's response to the insult that never took place was.

The real kicker is reading the comments at Huff Post on this article.

Although it's crystal fucking clear that Sessions never said anything like this, they all are calling for him to apologize and fawning over how great Obama handled it.

Breathtaking.

I expect to see Harry Reid on the floor of the Senate next week talking about the group of republican senators who jumped Obama in the Rose Garden with knives and pipes. As long as you're making shit up, go for the gold.

274 Obama administration Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius’ failure at designing websites to provide government services began during her term as governor of Kansas, long before the Obamacare website debacle, Kansas political insiders told The Daily Caller.

Sebelius oversaw numerous costly and disastrous government website projects during her six-year governorship (2003-2009), including a failed update of the Department of Labor’s program to provide unemployment pay and other services and similar updates pertaining to the Department of Administration and the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) services.

The Department of Labor’s overhaul of its computer programs was a notable boondoggle, according to 14-year former Kansas state senator and former state Labor Secretary Karin Brownlee.

283 So... Obama meets with Republicans... later Obama has someone tell the Democrats what the Republicans said. Durban, who wasn't a witness to the meeting, passes on this hear-say information, which is like... even if someone really hated to even look at Obama, who would say that in that way? After all, *Obama* knows what was said and who said it.

What I've heard is that either Durban is out and out lying, or there was a misunderstanding.

What if Durban is telling the truth? What if Durban was explicitly told that this is what some Republican said? What if the briefing given the Dem Senators was deliberately and flagrantly misleading? Not a problem of playing "telephone" but of your BFF lying to you on purpose about what Sally told her to make you mad. BUT the rules are that you're not supposed to go to the press and repeat what Sally supposedly said because then Sally can say, "I never said that, you're lying about me." Mohammed Mahmoud Omar Mefleh, 34, and Antoine Clela, 31, were charged with enticement of a child and harassment.

The victim told police she was playing with a sibling in her yard when Mefleh and Clela approached her several times and tried to lure her into their vehicle. She told officers they kept asking for sexual favors.

The suspects are with a foreign military in a middle eastern country and are part of a training mission at Fort Leonard Wood, just a couple miles from where the attempted abduction took place.

“There is no diplomatic immunity, they are guests and if they were diplomats it would be different, but they’re here on a training mission so we treat them like any other citizen charged with a crime,” said Sheriff Ron Long with Pulaski County.

One problem is that the vast majority of people are suggestible when they perceive authority. Authority can be as insignificant as a lab coat, a microphone and TV camera, or a person canvassing for signatures on a petition allegedly representing some interest group.

I have been scientifically proven to be different in that sense. In a psych test in college I was the only one ofhundreds of subjects to tell the chick in the lab coat her vocabulary test results were fake.

The website glitches? Of course that is being talked about, it is what people who are interacting with ObamaCare are encountering (what do you call a glitch that is in fact the entire program?). The price shocks? Those stories are getting out and more will get out - if they actually get the website working then you'll really hear the stories of the sticker shock (not too surprisingly, to see the prices you got to first get through the website - which you can't get through because it is a complete Charlie Foxtrot.)

Here is what I posted as a reply to my Klein's rather fantastic one sidedness about the Dem's position"

"Ok I want to see if I understand this correctly.

The
Democratic party wins big in 2008. They craft a bill that they have
wanted for a long time and push it through congress. They pass the law
with a one party vote over BIPARTISAN objections to the law. Now I
think what they did was unwise but it was perfectly legal to do.

Now
because of the way it was passed (not having enough votes after
Kennndy's death) they could not work out some of the issues they wanted
to because they would NOT have had the votes to go through the senate

The
problem I now have with articles like Mr. Kleins is this. The
republicans object to provisions and want things changed and they are
told its a settled law and they need to get on board. The Dem's want to
make changes and suddenly that law is not so settled and needs to be
fixed. The real Chutzpah here is the Dem's position. which seems to
be

"Hey we all want changes to the law. But only OUR changes
are relevant. And if you dont do just our changes elected officials will
take to the airwaves as elected reps and call you hostage takers and
terrorist."

And as the cherry on top of the cake one of those
totally terrorist positions you had just a week or so ago about delaying
things. A position that we said was akln to a "gun to our heads".. Yea
now that its not your idea and we can take credit for being pragmatic.
We want that option.

Republicans want something 2 weeks ago= Terrorist
Democrats want the same thing 2 weeks later= Its pragmatic and for the people!"
