CBS' Jan Crawford: Obama Rollout "Nothing Short of Disastrous"

From Tami. Jan Crawford is one of the few reporters in the media who calls things as they are, without prejudice or favor.

This is a tough report. Tough, but honest. Look below the fold for it.

The White House has been warned for months that the system was nowhere near ready.

But they don't listen to facts. They make decisions based upon their partisan hopes and ideological dreams. The thing will work, because it must work, because the Cause of the Left is noble and good, and because the left's strange gods will come in at night, like socialist elves, to cobble the Administration's code together.

Major insurers, state health-care officials and Democratic allies repeatedly warned the Obama administration in recent months that the new federal health-insurance exchange had significant problems, according to people familiar with the conversations.

...

Two allies of the administration, both of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the controversy surrounding the rollout, said they approached White House officials this year to raise concerns that the federal exchange was not ready to launch. In both cases, Obama officials assured them there was no cause for alarm.

Robert Laszewski, a health-care consultant with clients in the insurance industry, said insurers were complaining loudly that the site, www.healthcare.gov, was not working smoothly during frequent teleconferences with officials at the Department of Health and Human Services before the exchange’s launch and afterward. “People were pulling out their hair,” he said.

The left likes to flatter itself as thinking in terms of reason, facts, expertise, openness to doubt, and scorn of dogma and magical thinking.

Is this anywhere close to true?

When experts told the Obama Administration it was a fact the website was not ready, did they take seriously this advisement?

Nope! They simply said there was no cause for alarm; the strange gods of the left would just sort everything out.

Oddly enough, they didn't.

Meanwhile, Sheila Jackson Lee knows how to end this shutdown.

That's right, you guessed it -- by the declaration of martial law.

8 The MSM is constantly testing the wind so they can get out in front and produce news reports that they think will attract the most viewers because the report reflects the public mood.

Thus, the very fact that a Big Three network even aired this report means that their "internal polling" and "rumor-o-meter" is already registering a nationwide grumpiness and mockery of the rollout.

In other words - our narrative is winning.

WINNING, I tell you.

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) on Wednesday criticized the first week of ObamaCare as a system that threatens to fine people for failing to buy health insurance on websites that don't work.

“How can we tax people for not buying a product from a website that doesn't work?” he asked on the House floor.

Romeo13,

The miracle they're actually hoping for is massive inflation.

Think Zimbabwe at the extreme - if it takes $50 billion Obama FunBux(TM) to buy what is currently $1's worth of food, then $17 trillion isn't such big deal now is it.

Once Obama was elected, his financial advisors actually used to talk about inflating the currency on places like NPR circa late 2008, early 2009 till they figured out that wasn't such a popular idea.

The plan's still there they just aren't talking about it.

New Head of the Fed's all about printing worthless Obama FunBux and calling it stimulus.

69 ObamaCare hasn't even been rolled out yet. All we've seen so far is what a disaster the sign-up process is. The insurance disaster is itself yet to come. The delivery of medical services, by the unhappily enslaved medical profession to the cowed citizenry (whose health history will be used to make sure everybody behaves themselves) will also be an Eastern European level nightmare, circa 1956.

Posted by: Romeo13

Close, but not quite. The phrase "Deus ex Machina" actually dates MUCH further back than that, to the Greek plays of Menander and the Roman plays of Plautus (among many others), who, as you noted, wrote plots that became ever-increasingly more complex and irresolvable at the play's climax approached.

However, it wasn't merely an offstage voice which resolved things, but an actual "machine" (most likely a crane or a platform hanging from ropes) in which an actor portraying Zeus or Athena or Jupiter would descend from the rafters and, totally illogically, simply declared that all dilemmas were resolved, and all unsolvable problems fixed. "Thus it is so! And they al lived happily ever after."

Okay so they made it to Dover AFB.

I thought TAPS covered that.

Either way TAPS and Fisher House--aren't the usual ones to pay.

I think they are charities--or non-profits--not "government:.

I think the usual process is the families buy the airfare and DOD reimburses.

The story yesterday was the families had to call TAPS becasue they were scrambling trying to figure it out.

Might be that the first shirt had to direct them to TAPS.

--btw never heard of TAPS before-- Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors.

I guess now Greta is saying an un-named organization paid.

Probably because of the same legal entanglement which did not allow them to reveal the name of the organization that helped pay for the AF football to fly out for the Navy Air Force game.

Due to interest rates being lower than Inflation, its already a net negative to save money.... and as banks Play with money in derivatives instead of investing in companies that actually MAKE stuff????

Economy is going down... because once hyper inflation hits, it kills investment AND the government will still be forced to maintain an unrealistic amount of spending, because too many will depend on the Government for basic subsistence.

Not merely out of business. Try "out of existence". Doesn't matter which scenario you posit, Obama declaring himself Preezy For Life, and getting enough military to back him up; or some Pinochet type staging a Constitutionalist coup. One way or the other, she gets a cigarette and a blindfold. In the first case, she's no longer necessary, and becomes something of a threat to Caudillo Obama, because she may know where some bodies are buried, and because she is (inexplicably) a popular Rep, and might form a nucleus for resistance. And in the second case, because of treason for being part of the O'gime, and for the chance that again, somehow, she might become a counter-revolutionary leader.

Heh. Sounds like the original launch of Final Fantasy XIV. But at least you could log into that and play something. It took them three years (two years adjusting the original release, and one year with everything shut down to finalize the changes and replace the engine) before they could roll out the current - successful - version of the game.

With Obamacare, on the other hand, you can't even log in. Who knows how many other issues there are still lurking under the surface that no one even knows about because so few people have been able to log in? The only one that we know about to date is the insurance companies not getting enough information to sign people up.

It also connected the scanning number on every package to the trailer or package car or air-freight container. It also did simulations and a lot of other stuff, including planning tools that pulled data from everywhere.

Just think about the database needed for that.
Every trailer. Every tractor. Every package car. Every air container. Every package.

The first night it ran. Badly, but it ran. The next night the programmers had fixed about 75% of the problems. They stayed for a long, long time, but it worked.

That's how private enterprise does this stuff.

180 "Do doctors have any control over Medicare reimbursement rates? I really don't know.

Posted by: BuckIV at October 09, 2013 07:25 PM (gedHR)"
No, but they can let Congress know that they won't be seeing any Medicare patients if Congress sets the reimbursement rates too low. In any kind of hyperinflation, we could end up in a scenario where Congress needs to raise reimbursement rates weekly in order to keep access to doctors available for Medicare members.
At that point, any benefit of inflating away the debt is pretty much nullified by the consequences of trying to inflate it away. Social Security is a little easier to inflate away because it's just a cash payment, but there are still cost of living adjustments.
Anyway, this is why it seems to me that hyperinflation won't take care of the debts like it would have in the old days. Doesn't mean hyperinflation won't happen, though.

I've been saying that for days. It's Alinsky's Rules.

It's imperative that the Progressives/New Party use Blitzkrieg and momentum to make it appear as if their support is larger than it actually is and to keep the battle short enough that its most partisan don't abandon the generals.

If the target stands up, doesn't acquiesce, and remains uncowed by the charges, the non-targets (observers) will have time to understand the countercharge and be less likely to side with the progressive.

It's essential to elongate the conflict here, especially when the radicals cannot help but become more shrill and desperate as any perceived early momentum is lost.

Posted by: Fact Man

I agree -- to an extent.

The GOP foolishly argued four points simultaneously:

1. Obamacare will bankrupt the nation eventually, even if it does get some uninsured to be insured. A poison gift.

2. Obamacare won't even help most people -- in fact, it will cause most people to have their rates raised. It's flawed.

3. No one will sign up for it, anyway.

4. It's so popular that it broke the Internet.

Now, in fact, at least three out of those four arguments are true. But when presented en masse, they are a confusing morass. Is the problem that Obamacare hurts us as a nation -- or that it hurts us individually - - or that everyone hates it -- or that the government is incompetent in implementing it?

Well, kinda sorta all of those are true.

But the problem for the GOP is that the problems seemingly conflict with other, message-wise.

They haven't sorted out how to simplify and streamline narratives.

Looks like they spent most of their time designing the icons and coming
up with clever names for the exchanges, but not much else"--

Let's think about it: Newly enlarged department with lots of money to spend and lots of middle managers; people who have zero experience in analyzing requirements for large enterprise computing systems and managing a really large contract with the programmers who have to really design code this system; answering to a bunch of politicians who _still_ haven't "read it so they'll know what's in it", so everybody's fighting over the details of how it should work, let alone how it should look; little if any realistic planning for worst cases (more states leaving it to the Fed exchanges, way more looky-loo visitors than serious shoppers the first few days, etc.); and a totally rigid delivery date. How it could it NOT be untested and horribly full of business logic and code defects?
