Hahahahaha: Bay Area Obamanuts and Big Believers in ObamaCare Are Shocked, Shocked! to Discover Their Health Care Insurance Premiums are Going Waaay Up to Subsidize the Poor

I don't want to reveal things that were said in emails but I think the cobloggers were pretty unanimous in giggling about this.

I cannot stress to you enough how much you must Read The Whole Thing. But I'll do my best to excerpt it. But realize I'm leaving a lot of delicious meat on the bones.

Cindy Vinson and Tom Waschura are big believers in the Affordable Care Act. They vote independent and are proud to say they helped elect and re-elect President Barack Obama.

But now their premiums are going way up -- by $1800 per year for an individual policy for Vinson, and by almost $10,000 per year for a family policy for Waschura.

"Welcome to the club," said Robert Laszewksi, a prominent health care consultant...

It's those who were already buying their own insurance on the open market who are being hit the worst -- or at least hit the first. Wait until millions of people are dropped off employer-paid coverage and left to the exchanges.

Which will happen.

In California, 1.9 million people buy plans on the open market, according to officials with Covered California, the state's new health insurance exchange. And many of them are steaming mad.

"There's going to be a number of people surprised" by their bills, said Jonathan Wu, a co-founder of ValuePenguin, a consumer finance website. "The upper-middle class are the people who are essentially being asked to foot the bill, and that's true across the country."

A shill from Covered California pops in to claim that it's always been said that there would be both winners and losers under ObamaCare.

Um, no. Nancy Pelosi guaranteed that everyone's rate would go down. Obama promised a $2500 per year reduction in premiums. He campaigned on it.

While sick people (those who bought insurance when already sick, and thus pay elevated premiums) are paying less, people who bought insurance during periods of healthiness are now being shellacked.

But people with no pre-existing conditions like Vinson, a 60-year-old retired teacher, and Waschura, a 52-year-old self-employed engineer, are making up the difference.

"I was laughing at Boehner -- until the mail came today," Waschura said, referring to House Speaker John Boehner, who is leading the Republican charge to defund Obamacare.

"I really don't like the Republican tactics, but at least now I can understand why they are so pissed about this. When you take $10,000 out of my family's pocket each year, that's otherwise disposable income or retirement savings that will not be going into our local economy."

Well! Look who sounds like a Republican all of a sudden, speaking of "my family's pocket" and "our local economy."

[W]hile both said they anticipated their rates would go up, they didn't realize they would rise so much.

"Of course, I want people to have health care," Vinson said. "I just didn't realize I would be the one who was going to pay for it personally."

Oh My God. Yes, you thought yourself very virtuous, self-righteously declaring "Everyone should have health insurance!"

But you never expected to have to sacrifice anything except for mouthing that ego-pleasing slogan.

And you always put yourself morally above those who you thought would have to pay for all this -- even though those people were the only ones who would be doing any sacrificing at all, in your mind.

And now you find out that You have to pay for your folly -- and suddenly you're not quite so self-righteous, are you?

More on this habit of Thoughtless Sloganeenering Leftists -- people who want to preen as if they're Doing Something for the poor so long as they're not actually required to Do Anything for the poor -- at Legal Insurrection, from Neo-Neocon.

Schadenboners... will erupt in my pants when media companies -- already unprofitable and losing money -- dump all of their employees onto the exchanges.

Of all the companies in America, media companies are among those least able to suddenly cough up thousands more per employee for health insurance.

They also made sure to mention that the Bay Area is being singled out for rate increases, while LA and Sacramento are not (though based on a map I saw a few weeks ago, the Bay Area is hardly alone in the increases).

158 White House press secretary Jay Carney said Monday he was “proud” of President Obama for saying over the weekend he would “think about changing” the name of the Washington Redskins.

Carney noted he was a longtime Redskins fan and a native-born Washingtonian.

“I was proud of my president on this issue,” the press secretary said.

He also said that he did not believe Obama had called Redskins owner Dan Snyder to discuss the name.

Carney is a personal friend of the NFL owner, according to a financial disclosure form released in 2011.

In that document, Carney describes receiving a pair of tickets to watch two separate Redskins games in the owner’s suite. The disclosure refers to Snyder as a “long-time personal friend.”

(In CA) From $305/month for me and the (fairly new) wife vs. ...... close to $900 starting in January. For much less, in terms of deductible/co-pay/etc etc. So I might go naked for me, and just have the wife covered (though the smart play might be the other way around, so long as most of the assets are in my name alone). Really super. To prudently cover, at a very skimpy catastrophic level, my health insurance needs, I will have to scheme and calculate and involve the trust attorney and possibly go naked for the first time ever.

And - thanks be to the empty universe all around us - I am very very lucky. I have no chronic health issues, am extremely active for my age, and have probably spent less than $10,000 on "medical" costs since I was 20 years old (all of that for injuries incurred playing very rigorous contact sports). I have always had only catastrophic-level insurance - it was the rational choice for me. It has slowly morphed, naturally, into a frankenstein of cost-shifting, welfare, and stupid wasteful mandate compliance. I'm guessing a true "insurance" policy for me, given my history and lifestyle - ya know, the financial product actually and literally based on mathematics and real data, with a profit margin for the provider - would be half of what I am paying now.

Amidst all the schadenfreude, and horror, and chaos, of the current ACA debacle, I cannot forget or fail to remind everyone - the "system" prior to ACA was a disaster, and needed fixing. NO, not "fixing" involving more state and federal involvement. Radically less, of both. I have seen an estimate that if health care financing in the US were left alone to operate normally (no federal tax subsidies, no ridiculous state regularion and resultant cartel behavior), the very same level of service delivery we have today could probably be provided for 1/5 of the current cost.

Easy to believe. So guess what? The "solution" to both my problems and those of the uninsured-through-indigence (a very very small segment) is exactly the same: reintroduce prices to consumers and producers, unleash the mundane normal forces of competition and price discipline, and then at the resulting dramatically lower cost levels, subsidize the very small segment that can't afford some reasonable coverage. The only downside I see is that the absurd packages of benefits for public retirees which are set to bankrupt most states and municipalities then might actually be amost feasible to keep, meaning the destruction of the public service mindset and tradition would be permanent as its repugnant rent-seeking/union-organized replacement would be "sustainable" ....

To agree that it is fundamentally broken, beyond the ability of fine tuning at the margins to fix, would be for themselves to personally admit error in buying into the concept in the first place.

Liberals, whether or not they happen to call themselves "independents" when interviewed, are fundamentally incapable of admitting to error. It just doesn't happen.

Because, you see, you're bone stupid, and you make dumb mistakes. They're wicked smaht, and they don't make mistakes. Ever. You might have thought you caught some liberals making a mistake, but that's because you're dumb and can't comprehend what they're doing. They operate at a higher level than you do.

Because they lack the tools to "learn". See the idiots in the article under discussion. That is one of the darkest elements to be considered. "Getting it good and hard" is NOT likely to be a solution, even a partial one, to this nightmare, as in a chastened electorate.

When one's framework has no connection to reality, or is shaped by a stupid ideology, or stupid emotions, no data will help correct your thinking. Jerry Brown has displayed moments of remarkable lucidity.

After Prop 13 was passed, he told the guy in charge of the University of California system that he would have to live within a reduced budged. The guy went with a typical "fire the police and firemen" strategy saying he would have to close several of the UC campuses and reduce the number of students in the system. Elections have consequences and the American public needs to feel the pain of their decisions. Let this blow up in the Democrat's faces until people are fed-up enough to throw them out of office.

Then, and only then, get rid of this monstrosity in its entirety. Give tax credits back to individuals instead of corporations, allow us to buy health insurance the way we buy car insurance. No more third-party payers...consumers have to be back in the market one-on-one with providers.

Not ENTIRELY true. But other than that, that's probably all they expected it would cost them. A couple hours of time.

The tax credits go back tot he 1950s. Trying to explain to people just how long the market has been increasingly distorted is the first hurdle in making them understand it just doesn't have to be this way. Health care can be a free market driven business like anything else if you don't allow bleeding hearts to overwhelm sensible policy.

418 "Hahahahaha: Bay Area Obamanuts and Big Believers in ObamaCare Are Shocked, Shocked! to Discover Their Health Care Insurance Premiums are Going Waaay Up to Subsidize the Poor"

You don't get it. Bay Area Obamanuts and Big Believers in ObamaCare are not allowed to substantively criticize the left. If they do they will be unpleasantly reeducated or excommunicated. They are allowed to spit and foam at the mouth about US, the non-left or the kinda' but not extremely left. When their masters kick them, they will blame us and growl at us and try in their pussy way to bite us. The left holds the keys to their peace and redemption so any anger will be transferred to the nonleft as if by magic. This will make the rank and file left MORE loyal not less. In the late 70's it would have shut some people up but we are a hell of a lot more gullible and flighty and subject to panic now than we were then. Which is sort of unpleasantly amazing considering we weren't all that tough back then. Now our society is a soft quantum foam that undulates madly to the un-rhythm of all this nonsense. That is why instead of a press we have left oriented marketing groups pretending to be press. Instead of nightly news we have carefully scripted infomercials. And the only people who can shake it off for a while are considered crazy by the hypnotized chickens who nod off every other day and start from square zero again.

419 Obamacare,
Irrefutable proof Conservatives knew EXACTLY WHAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT, and proof of how full of shiite and blind liberal stooges really are.

421 But I thought that everyone would get health care and the cost of it would be, like, paid by Obama Magic.

How does math work, again?
