The 'old guard' needs to be shuffled off to the old folks home. That's why I know that Hillary has chance ZERO of getting the nomination, much less become another Precedent. If ObamaCare stays in force, the backlash against the old (like Hillary, who will be 67 by then) by the youth vote is gonna be one helluva sight. They're gonna have to pony up big time. Obama screwed her chances, unless she can pull a miracle, undercut him, align some sort of alliance, and get that bag of turds tossed.

"Have a nice day" - this is how Iranian President Hassan Rohani concluded his phone conversation with US President Barack Obama, the first direct contact between leaders of the two nations in over three decades.

A message on Rohani's Twitter page, which has since been deleted, stated that Obama answered in Farsi by saying "khodahafez" to indicate goodbye, whose literal meaning is "may God be with you.

38 I agree Hillary's chances are less than stellar. But, I think the recent SCOTUS ruling on election laws will have a lot to do with that as well.

The states will now be allowed (with much fighting by Holder, to be sure) to reinstate sane election laws. Places like Ohio and Florida that allowed voting for two weeks simply invited fraud.

But, back to your point.. OFA cannot even create an event that attracks a dozen people these days. Their GOTV efforts, relying on enthusiastic young people who just got screwed by Obamacare, will be somewhat lacking!

76 World War II airman missing since 1944 to be buried with full military honors

SALT LAKE CITY – Only a sole surviving sibling has a distant memory of a World War II pilot whose recently identified remains will be buried Saturday with full military honors in Utah.

U.S. Air Force 2nd Lt. Vernal J. Bird had more than a dozen brothers and sisters when he crashed over a Pacific Ocean island nearly 70 years ago. He disappeared over Papua New Guinea on a 1944 bombing run of Japanese airfields there. He was 25.

The crash site was discovered 12 years ago, but it wasn't until this summer that the Air Force was able to identify partial remains found there as belonging to Bird.

This week, about 150 distant relatives showed up at the Salt Lake airport as those remains -- only a single leg bone was recovered -- arrived inside a flag-draped casket on an airliner.

If I post a 2nd link to my old Head Shop cartoons in one day, this one simply because it uses the word adenoid, is that hit whoring? Nobody has to click.

Anthropoid
Word-play with picture-play, three permutations.

I mean, how often can I get a hook like 'adenoid,' right?

So everyone says and knows that Ocare won't work and the plan is for it to fail and then bammo, we get single payer. The thing is though, how would that happen? Assuming a split government, how do they all agree to put in single payer? Do they assume Ocare will fail and then everyone will say, "Hey, lets elect Democrats to fix that!"

No one has to agree with anything. The path has already been set and it is inevitable:

As "private" insurance rates soar and even at that rate profits dwindle for the private plans, they will ALL get out of the Health Care business. Leaving ONLY the Gov. run obamadeath plans left. The Market Place will dictate that and it is as sure as death and taxes.

The theory is this, at least what I think is the leftist dictatorial mindset. You put in a system that you tout as wonderful yet is designed to fail. When it fails, you blame what's left of the evil private insurance industry (which will go under anyway because it cannot afford to be in business any more) and the GOP, and when the system does crash, the people will beg for the government to take over the healthcare industry lock, stock and barrel. Voila - single payer.

At least, that is what Cloward-Piven say will happen with 100% certainty because they are brilliant, etc. Except for Adam Smith's pimp-hand and the law of unintended consequences.

Marxists have no difficulty with unintended consequences of their actions. The poverty and misery that Marxist economics creates is an unintended consequence, but is simply an opportunity to extend control.

The unintended consequence of Stalin's purges of his officer corps before Hitler invaded was the loss of millions of Soviet soldiers and civilians because of inexperienced or just awful officers.

But that was okay, because Stalin had plenty of men in reserve, and civilians were unimportant.

Once all the health insurance companies fold because of the insurmountable incompatibilities between Obamacare and the reality of actuarial risk underwriting, what other choice will there be?

A free market cannot arise because Medicare + boomer demographics means that bureaucrats are going to "own" a huge segment of the market. Even without that influence, anyone trying to make a go at running a profitable care operation would be one EMTALA patient away from bankruptcy.

Even though I know the evil motherfuckers running this show are doing it for the money and the power, they have plenty of readily available true-believer minions working in the medicine and public health fields who honestly believe that government will do a better job of providing care if only that dirty profit motive could be excised.

As for TFG-care, I am hoping that this fresh hell collapses under its own weight. Some say 'the government' will then replace it with single payer, which was 'the plan all along.' Well, the votes for that don't exist today. I don't see the logic behind that argument. Since this monstrosity of a bill was passed, we now know 'what's in it', and 'what's in it' is a big expensive job-killing pile of corruption and death panels and lies.

I am hoping for a very loud, very public, very bloody self-inflicted death for TFG-care. The perhaps some eyes will be opened. God willing.

I don't get it either. If they're trying to delay the mandate, seems to me that it's just helping the Dems with the mid-terms. What the delay won't help with, AFAIK, is that it won't have any effect on the skyrocketing premium increases so many others are facing, along with those that have gotten their work hours reduced or lost jobs altogether. Speaking of....my 78 year old dad asked me yesterday if he's going to get a huge increase in his Medicare premiums, like the individual market is showing. He's pretty concerned about it. Vic, how about yours?

Well, 'technically', Senator Levin is correct. The $300 mil is not a bail out, it won't solve Detroit's financial problems. It's a bribe, a payoff, graft, it's vote buying, it's looting the Federal Treasury and 'spreading the wealth around' to loyal democrat voters'. The $300 mil is many things but it most definitely is not a 'bail out'.

My favorite is the hipster who makes 32 grand who pays $20 per month for employee only health insurance. The spouse and family insurance used to be $80 per month went up to $280 which they thought was unfair so they just dropped the family part to go on the exchange for cheaper with a subsidy they thought. That plan (one of two) on the exchange is $580 and there is no subsidy because they are eligible for a employer plan that is reasonable in cost and it doesn't matter if they are piss pot poor or at what ranking they are on the poverty scale. The self delusional assumption of free insurance for spouse and kid did not materialize. Oh dear.

The plans are not subsidized. The people buying them are. And the tax credits ARE the subsidies. They will simply pay them directly to the insurer.

But, here's the problem. One big flaw in this scheme is that enough people have to actually sign up for these plans to make them viable for insurance companies - especially young healthy people who won't need benefits. The subsidies don't pay the whole premium, even for the poorest. For middle-income families, it can be as little as $400 per year on an $6000 plan!

Someone doing without insurance now, will not likely buy insurance just to get $400. And those on skimpy catastrophic insurance will likely now go without.

The sick and older Americans will gladly sign up for these plans - and the insurers will go broke in a year or two.

223 Just now listening to the podcast...

How fucking disappointing. Ace, Iowahawk and the crew first whine about how the people who represent us in congress don't understand the means of production, because they've never held productive jobs.

Then, in a frenzy of liberal salary envy, they whine even longer and louder about how much the elected officials make. It never occurs to them that these are people responsible for raising and spending a couple TRILLION per year.

If they believe in the capitalist system, why is it that corporations operating with mere billions spend millions on the people make the decisions? Why not save some money and hand the reins over to someone who will work for a middle-manager wage?

Why would a competent, successful small business owner or corporate executive give up their life to work for an amount that wouldn't even meet their basic expenses, let alone the life they've become accustom to? It leaves the offices to millionaires who either earned or inherited their wealth or people who couldn't make the current salary in the private sector.

What bothers me is that the podcast group should be part of the right's intellectual base. These are the people who should be vetting ideas and helping guide the conservative masses to influence policy. And it never even occurred to them that we may be paying too little instead of too much.

It would be nice if we could look for root causes of problems and try to change the system so that it works. Until the thinking goes a bit deeper, we're stuck in the same old shit.

225 Yes, that's subsidizing. But it depends on people actually buying the plans, which I do not believe will happen. Not the first year, at least. The penalty is $95 for an individual. Healthy young people will go without.

Yes that is very true, but more and more of us "Older" and more "complicated" people/families will be forced into them as their Employer or their current "Private" Insurer is withdrawn.

It shouldn't be. It's just some bullshit to make the Clintons and their friends look good while the reality is that it does little good for anyone else.

Mercedes-Benz sedans are becoming a common target for thieves. Burbank police are dealing with a rash of complaints from Mercedes-Benz owners who are reporting stolen side mirrors.

"The owners go out to their cars and there's not much damage to it, it's just that the mirrors are missing," said Sgt. Darin Ryburn with the Burbank Police Department. Ryburn says since mid-June, 18 mirrors have been reported stolen and 75 percent of them are from Mercedes models.

Investigators say these mirrors have become popular with thieves for two main reasons: they can be removed quickly and easily, and they sell for a lot of money. "They're about $1,300 for the market value for these Mercedes mirrors that we've had," said Ryburn.

247 Looking at Wikipedia, September 28 has been a big date in history. These highlights just scratch the surface. There's lots more.

1066 – William the Bastard (as he was known at the time) invades England beginning the Norman conquest of England.

1787 – The newly completed United States Constitution is voted on by the U.S. Congress to be sent to the state legislatures for approval.

1912 – Corporal Frank S. Scott of the United States Army becomes the first enlisted man to die in an airplane crash. He and pilot Lt. Lewis C. Rockwell are killed in the crash of an Army Wright Model B at College Park, Maryland.

1924 – First round-the-world flight completed.

1928 – Sir Alexander Fleming notices a bacteria-killing mold growing in his laboratory, discovering what later became known as penicillin.

1951 – CBS makes the first color televisions available for sale to the general public, but the product is discontinued less than a month later.

2008 – SpaceX launches the first private spacecraft, the Falcon 1 into orbit. (Actually, Falcon 1 was the name of the rocket, and it put a dummy satellite into orbit.)

254 Since this thread is dead, I claim it for my own.

Now, to finish the thought on elected officials, we need to start with campaign finance reform.

The way things are now, it's just a refined form of bribery which leaves little time for actual legislating. To change it for the better I propose:

Unlimited contributions to the challenger from any U.S. citizen, organization or corporation.

All contributions must be declared within 24 hours on the internet.

All money is held by an independent third party (normally an accounting firm) who collects contributions and pays all expenses.

Incumbents are forbidden to solicit or accept any money from anyone at any time.

At a set date, all fundraising and contributions are stopped and the incumbent's third party administrator is given a matching amount from the U.S. treasury of the highest challenger against him/her.

This plan would diminish influence of big money contributors and let office holders work on government business instead of fundraising 6 hours a day.

255 As to congressional/senate pay, the country would be much better off if we spent enough to get quality people in the jobs.

Congressmen base pay - $500,000/year.

Congressmen annual bonus if goals met - $500,000

Perks - $6,000/month housing allowance, NetJet Light Jet hours proportional to the distance their district is from Washington (Minimum 25 per year, max 200 per year), healthcare, no pension.

Senators base Pay - $750,000/year

Senators annual bonus if goals met - $750,000

Perks - $10,000/month housing allowance, NetJet Medium Jet hours proportional to the distance their state is from Washington (Minimum 40per year, max 200 per year), healthcare, no pension.

VP - $2,000,000/year
Perks - Senate perks with government jet.

President - $4,000,000/year
Perks - All the normal stuff.

You get what you pay for in life. Buy crap, you get crap. It's time reach for the upper shelf and get people who know how to run things.
