Obama: I Just Began Negotiating With Iran, But No I Won't Be Negotiating With GOP;
Media Gets on Same Talking Point Page That Hero-God Obama's Foreign Policy Ventures Make GOP Look "Small" and "Petty"

Obviously nothing will come from this, but Obama needs to suggest to the cult that there are irons in the fire that will one day transmute into gold.

The fact that he announced this literally minutes before insisting he won’t talk to the GOP about the debt ceiling can only be the White House trying to draw a deliberate contrast. (National Journal has already picked it up.) Why they’d want to do that, I don’t know. The idea, I guess, is to signal to the public that even the nuts in Iran are more reasonable in their demands than Republicans are — at least one liberal demagogue was pushing that point today on MSNBC — but that’s a risky strategy when polling on Iran looks like this. Good luck selling Americans, roughly half of whom are Republicans, on the idea that the GOP is less reasonable than the international terrorist outfit wreaking havoc in Syria and Iraq, champ.

But the media is already in Busy Beaver mode, building that particular dam:

They're both Real Reporters at National Journal.

So place your bets:

Did they coordinate, or are their kneejerk partisan responses so perfectly in sync that they don't need to coordinate at all to always wind up on the precise same partisan page?

Thanks to @slublog for those tweets.

Incidentally, a commenter noted something important in the O'Bagy story: No one in Washington, DC, is every permitted to fail. Ergo, the entire town produces a bizarre mental state of a consequence-free world.

And then that mental state informs all of our politics, and public integrity, and media "honesty," and so on, and so forth.

Washington DC is truly a magical place. A place where numbers mean only what a partisan wishes them to mean, and where "failure" usually means a lateral reassignment or an outright promotion.

And then we get the government we get, and we get the laws they type.

Meanwhile, our new partners for peace hacked the US Navy's computers.

Via JammieWF, Iran is just a tiny country.

The GOP hadn't held the House in at least 40 years at that point and had only held the Senate for about 4 years in the 80s, which was a bit of a fluke due to Reagan beating the holy hell out of Carter in '80, causing a bunch of long-time Senators in the west like McGovern and Frank Church to lose.

that it was so unbelievably complicated and confusing, it would never work

the Clintons would come out with some proposal, and it would get shot down as unworkable. Then they'd propose a fix, and that would be shot down as equally unworkable. It became a cycle of lather rinse repeat. Eventually, they gave up. The whole question just kind of went away.

91 "Incidentally, a commenter noted something important in the O'Bagy story: No one in Washington, DC, is ever permitted to fail."

Ace has riffed before on the theme of how most of us have "jobs".

Jobs from which, if we regularly and inexcusably fuck up, we are rapidly and unceremoniously fired. Sometimes having to find an entirely new and different line of work, including for less pay.

Whereas by contrast, Ace notes, the Beltway culture -- across all parties -- is one in which the Beltway locals have "careers", not "jobs". And no failure is so gross and immense that their "careers" will ever be materially derailed. It's unthinkable even to suggest professional punishment and exile.

All part of the New Feudalism.

Harvard and Yale law schools have NO GRADES. You are NOT PERMITTED to fail.

This is the norm now. Not for us, mind you, but for the elites. Get your ass into the corridors of power and then...free ride!

And you don't have to go to law school, look at Meghan McCain.

But if you want one of these special positions, you only own it based on the good graces of the power structure and you must play ball.

They have reality on their side.

But keep on with the daydreaming. We'll move on without you while the rest of the planet continues not even knowing you exist. They're already acknowledging that Obama isn't there other than as a spot to clean their shoes.

perfectly in sync that they don't need to coordinate at all to always
wind up on the precise same partisan page?

I know some of these sorts of people, and when some new issue presents itself, they are desperate to know what they *should* think about it. Used to be, the New York Times pretty much always set that; now, things sometimes move to fast for that. So maybe they talked to eachother, maybe they did not, but I would lay odds that they both had their finger in the wind, trying to find out what the approved spin was, and it must have worked, because they both found it.

Once you get in (however that is...) you are set for life. You don't
have to pass the bar to get one of those government jobs that requires a
law degree, let alone elective office."

There is that.

Example: Van Jones. Affirmative action admission to Yale Law, where by his own acccount, he seldom even went to class. Of course they gave him a degree anyway, because melanin.

He moved out here to San Francisco where he took up the cause of the scummiest sorts of street criminals against imagined "police brutality". (n.b., if there is ANY part of the nation with gentler, more politically correct cops than the Bay Area, I don't know about it)

He then parlayed that into various other "social justice" and "community organizing" street hustles, and eventually got a high level federal position in the Obama administration. Which he had to resign from after his 9/11 Troofer beliefs became clear, but (per early comments) that has done nothing to derail his sacrosanct "career" in the institutional left, where he continues to thrive and pull down pay.

He did all this without ever even attempting to pass the bar, so far as I know.

Still, when the left want to argue certain cases in front of actual courts, they do need people who actually have passed the appropriate bar exam.

I am sick and fucking tired of this 'we have to surrender to win' bullshit. One man stands up, and actually calls attention to what a horrid law Ocare is, throws his gauntlet down, and left goes into attack mode, posters here jump right on board.

Instead of living out his political life as a hand fed parakeet, chirping out surrender phrases like "Elections Have Consequences....Squawk!", Cruz stood up against the tide. Yeah, we all knew he was going to lose, but at least he, and those that stood with him did -something-.

He's not a saint, or martyr for the cause, he's not invincible, but he's a hell of a lot better than most of the other suit wearing, and quivering heaps of cowed flesh that pretend to represent us.

That does not necessarily make him presidential, (even though he's much more qualified that BO ever dreamed of being). But I would never cast a vote for any of the 19 butt hurt wilting flowers that aligned themselves with McCain.
It's not me refusing to align myself with the greater Republican party, it's that they no longer represent my views, or beliefs. From now on, money, support, and votes go to those that earn them, instead of the next RINO that plasters an R in front of his name.
