President Daddy Issues Wants To Attack Syria In A Way That's "Just Muscular Enough Not To Get Mocked"?

You have got to be shitting me.

White House officials cautioned that Obama was still considering the options, but the administration appeared positioned to act quickly once he chooses a course. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said during a visit to Brunei that the Pentagon was prepared to strike targets in Syria and hinted that such a move could come within days.

Some experts said U.S. warships and submarines in the eastern Mediterranean could fire cruise missiles at Syrian targets as early as Thursday night, beginning a campaign that could last two or three nights. Obama leaves next Tuesday for a four day trip to Sweden and Russia, which strongly supports Assad's government, for the G-20 economic summit.

One U.S. official who has been briefed on the options on Syria said he believed the White House would seek a level of intensity "just muscular enough not to get mocked" but not so devastating that it would prompt a response from Syrian allies Iran and Russia.

This is how we plan military action now?

We've already thrown acting in our national self-interest out the window, apparently for "Because the French and the UN want us to do it For the Children™. Or Something." and now we follow on by walking the tightrope of shutting down lčse-majesté on the one hand and not pissing off Iran or Russia on the other? I'd love to see the formula for the exact number of cruise missiles required to execute this plan.

Smart Diplomacy really is a sight to behold, isn't it?

Hell, Obama could call down a rain of ICBMs from the sky, and he'd still get mocked. By everyone.

Mockability is an inherent personality trait. You can't wash it off with faux bravado.

Obama, for his whole life, including now, is marinated in mockability.

But that's alright: We don't mind going to war just to help him resolve some juvenile psychological issues. We as a planet understand, and want to help.

90 Mildly OT, but following up on something Ace posted about yesterday regarding the Connoisseurs of Racism:

So, it's racist if Black People Don't Win at the VMAs. And also, it appears black people have some degree of ownership over RB, such that anyone white who works in that medium is "whitewashing" it and stealing from the black man.

People shouldn't think this way, but they do. That's what makes them racist. They have little reason for valuing themselves apart from their race, and therefore they view everything in terms of Stuff My Race Made, rather than Things I Myself Made, which is of course what actually matters.

It is strange and horrifying to see that those who are the most
stridently "anti-racist" are in fact those most infected with racism.
"This belongs to our tribe. We, The Collective Based Upon Our
Slightly-More-Similar DNA, have collective ownership rights to this."

Twenty-four hours later at HotAir, in the comments section...

Beyonce also is not into racial cultural appropriation like Miley Cyrus. Miley is trying on twerking because black culture is *always* the way young white pop stars breaking from their youthful innocence into adulthood. Whether it is Miley or Justin Timberlake, black music is the gateway to being seen as a serious artist. In a few years Miley Cyrus is going to be a white suburban wife who will look back on those days when she tried out twerking, while the black dancers she smacks on the butt on stage are probably out there still trying to make a living.

And for the record “twerking” is a black dance style that is decades old. We are all here cracking up at this notion that Miley Cyrus invented twerking, discovered twerking or is even anywhere NEAR close to being good at twerking. Miley just proves that old adage. Everyone wants to be a n-word, but noboddy wants to actually be a n-word.

Don't laugh, they have a couple subs, a couple frigates, some minesweepers, and quite a few smaller coastal defense craft.

Wiping them out makes any future operations safer, gives Assad a huge black eye and also limits the capacities for mayhem for whoever comes to power after Assad is gone.

All these broads that "twerk" are mimicking damn strippers in the strip club. And yes, "twerking" is quite popular in the black community; we can thank the ignorant ass rappers from the late 90s and on for that one. Instead of having actual dancers in their videos, they went cheap and familiar and did casting calls in their families and neighborhoods for strippers. And there it is. Mind you...the hood rats were the only ones doing it, until Beyonce, Rihanna and others made it more mainstream. And now I denounce myself for even commenting in this crap.

Still leaves us with the problem of what to do with tap dancing -- when Irish clogging met with African syncopation. Best to just ban it cause it confuses the racial purity rules of culture.

Also somebody will have to put a stop to all these Chinese girls playing Bach fugues and stealing from the white man. How dare they!

You want strategic thinking?

I'll give you strategic thinking.

Obama's in a fucked position. He can't back Assad and by opposing him he's helping AlQaeda. He can't do nothing, because he's looking weaker by the minute.

What to do, what to do....

The best answer for him is to nuke Syria to dust. It solves the Assad/AlQaeda problem and would probably be so dramatic as to gain a lot of conservative support.

The libs would so shocked they wouldn't say anything.

Iran and North Korea would immediately open their countries for inspection, disarmament and offer to be a theme park for Disney.

Obama would go down in history as a decisive president.

317 Is there one person in this administration who can talk Obama down off the ledge before he jumps, and takes us with him? Sounds like he might be wavering. Someone take him by the hand, reassure him that he is still president, that we all still love him, and that none of this is necessary. There is no need to start killing people, and he wasn't really disrespected. He doesn't need to defend his name or reputation. It's just the way things go in foreign affairs sometimes.

Then send him off to play golf, or host a celebrity concert or something.

Posted by: cool arrow at August 28, 2013 01:06 PM (WMsq+)

333 Serious question...

Is this a Strategy DESIGNED to fail? Think of it in those terms, and it starts to make sense...

Any strike on Syrian National Forces helps Al Q and Saudi Backed forces... which we have been doing anyway with Arms shipments (and by turning a blind eye to the financial support the Saudis are giving them through western banks which is prohibited under the WOT Act), but will not really tip the balance of power in Syria...

A limited strike however will inflame the Muslim world against us... as they see America once more butting into something that is not their business.

It also will have no Legal Basis... as their will be no UN Security Council cover, NATO does not extend there... War Powers Act does not (as neither US Personnel nor Property has been attacked)... and he is not asking for the backing of Congress...

So... it won't do any good.... It will piss off Islam... and it will further erode the rule of Law...

But when you look at things like his Energy Policy (which is built to fail)... or Obamacare (designed to destroy Health Insurance Companies)... or even his stance on Federal Debt (which is unsustainable)... or Economic Policy (more State control, thus more State)... All things DESIGNED to Fail...

Its a pattern....

341 250 All these broads that "twerk" are mimicking damn strippers in the strip
club. And yes, "twerking" is quite popular in the black community; we
can thank the ignorant ass rappers from the late 90s and on for that
one. Instead of having actual dancers in their videos, they went cheap
and familiar and did casting calls in their families and neighborhoods
for strippers. And there it is. Mind you...the hood rats were the only
ones doing it, until Beyonce, Rihanna and others made it more
mainstream. And now I denounce myself for even commenting in this crap.

It came out of the New Orleans dance clubs where they were doing Bounce style "music" in the '80s. Probably.
Posted by: bonhomme at August 28, 2013 12:59 PM (yKTI2)

I will concede that the "illustrious" city of New Orleans gave us twerking...via the No Limit and Cash Money crews. But as I said...it showed up in the rap videos...with strippers and family members doing it. Prior to that...it was a regional thing.

And on top of that we have "catastrophic" consequences warning from Putin.

Well "The Diplomacy" definitely looks like it wa designed to fail.

Although I think that is really an accident of arrogance.

First Powers a no show--at emergency UN Security Council.

Kerry could have went--hell Republicans sent Powell.

Then Kerry comes out with the statement that--

anyone who didn't believe the video of gas victims--

on first sight--is-

1) Amoral.

2) Should check their humanity.

that alienates domestic and foreign support in one swoop--"Masterful" hard to achieve.

There are plenty of benign reasons why an individual or state would question the videos.

1) Ghee I hope I am not seeing dead kids--I don't want to believe the atrocity--that's a perfectly normal response--denial.

2) I'm not a chemical warfare expert--I don't usually see that on the street.

3) I'm cynical--from experience...

Any American or foreign leader could legitimately think in those ways but--

Kerry The World's Number One Diplomat comes out with the anti-diplo speak--and

lectures everyone from his own superior moral authority--garnered long ago by fake stage throwing his War Medals.

Then they cancel an emergency meeting with Russia--no explanations.

btw--

"No Explanations" is how this all happens when the media is no longer the watch dog but the lap dog.

435 Clearly, Colin Powell's parade of lies is solid evidence of the flagrant
lies promulgated by the political donor class. Presumably, Bush's
argument for war brings about a McCarthyism which threatens everything
we hold dear. Perhaps for the first time since the late 1940s, the
pro-Sharon neoconservative cabal brings forth the police state which has
come to pass. It appears that the influence of Leo Strauss leads our
attention to the final subjugation of the Middle East, beginning with
the $90bn invasion of Iraq.

Obama should be hospitalized with some sort of semi-life threatening thing like a minor heart blockage. Assad can say that a rogue element of his military used the weapons under direct disobedience of Assad's orders. Pick some Al Qaeda terrorist prisoner, dress him in a uniform and have a show trial.
