117 One thing that was weird about the 2011 demands for "stories" and "narratives" is that they came largely from journalists or other professional writers--that is, from people who make a living by telling stories. You would think a journalist who sees the need for a narrative would do his job and write one instead of leaving it to the politicians.

This time around, Obama seems to have taken a cue from his 2011 critics. Whereas in 2011 he waited until August and September to start giving dreadful, overhyped speeches "on the economy," this time he started in July. Accordingly, this time he and his 2011 critics are on the same page. What's striking is how boring that page is to read--or, to put it another way, how bad most contemporary journalists are at telling a story.

"President Obama said reporters praise his economic proposals as 'great' and tell him they are 'all good ideas,' " TheHill.com notes in a report on yesterday's speech. No doubt the guys at the Korean Central News Agency say similar things about Kim Jong-un's ideas, although one is more inclined to question the latter's sincerity as opposed to their intelligence.

That's a small one. Son and his buddies watched one catch and eat a rat in A-stan. Also, they chase you for the shade of your shadow, which he said was terrifying. He was sitting on the ground, leaning against a tire on his vehicle one day, and his Sgt. yelled "Lookout!!" and one was running up to him to get in the shade. Said he and his Sgt. landed in the truck at the same time.

There was even a ST:TNG episode that did that. A terrorist leader compared himself to Washington. Though since it was the terrorist leader claiming that, it was up to the viewer to decide how accurate the statement was.

According to the guy they interviewed everyone is "shocked", the implication being he has no case at all. But like the BS where he stopped SC voter ID laws he knew he had no case and the intent was to drag it out past the election which he did.
Here he hopes to drag this shit out years which happens with the typical slow grinding wheels of an anti-trust suit.

320 312 Vice 301 Vashta The service companies that actually provide pressure pumping services for fracking, like most oilfield services, are a pretty concentrated market, especially in specific basins. The pumping units are in pretty high demand at certain times and places, and everyone knows what each other is charging, so there probably is a colorable collusion case there. Don't know that it's a winner in court -- these cases built on showing statistically that prices are higher than they would otherwise be are notoriously difficult to win, unless there's Bubba with an e-mail from Joe Bob saying, "What are you charging on that job? I'll overbid you, and then you overbid me on the other one." But it's unusual for Justice to be the complainant -- which does lead one to suspect the overpoliticized Justice Department is just looking for ways to shut down oil and gas drilling. Honestly, I think the compabiues just keep on working while the investigation drags on for years and they settle with a rebate to some of their customers, a fine, and a slap on the wrist in about 2020.

326 I guess we will have to apply the 24 hr rule here and maybe we will get some more details.

Posted by: Vic at July 26, 2013 06:25 PM (lZvxr)

327 24 hour rule makes sense. I have a hard time believing that an antitrust action would cause work to stop. This is a civil action, so money damages are sufficient if anything's proved (or, more likely, there's a settlement with no admission of responsibility and maybe appointment of a monitor). Big picture, DOJ gets to look like they're doing something and gum up the works of the fracking industry a little bit.

I'm starting to believe more and more that all these people are "Working Towards the Fuehrer" and don't have to be directed what to do: "Kershaw argued that Hitler was a very unbureaucratic leader who was highly averse to paper work in marked contrast to Stalin. Likewise, Kershaw argued that Stalin was highly involved in the running
of the Soviet Union in contrast to Hitler whose involvement in
day-to-day decision making was limited, infrequent and capricious. Kershaw argued that the Soviet regime, despite all of its extreme
brutality and utter ruthlessness, was basically rational in its goal of
seeking to modernize a backward country and had no equivalent of the
"cumulative radicalization" towards increasingly irrational goals that
Kershaw sees as characteristic of Nazi Germany. In Kershaw's opinion, Stalin's power corresponded to Weber's category
of bureaucratic authority, whereas Hitler's power corresponded to
Weber's category of charismatic authority. In Kershaw's view, what happened in Germany after 1933 was the
imposition of Hitler's charismatic authority on top of the
"legal-rational" authority system that had existed prior to 1933,
leading to a gradual breakdown of any system of ordered authority in
Germany. Kershaw argues that by 1938 the German state had been reduced to a
hopeless, polycratic shambles of rival agencies all competing with each
other to win Hitler's favor, which by that time had become the only
source of political legitimacy. Kershaw sees this rivalry as causing the "cumulative radicalization" of
Germany, and argues that though Hitler always favored the most radical
solution to any problem, it was German officials themselves who for the
most part, in attempting to win the Fhrer's approval, carried out on
their own initiative increasingly "radical" solutions to perceived
problems like the "Jewish Question", as opposed to being ordered to do
so by Hitler. In this, Kershaw largely agrees with Mommsen's portrait of Hitler as a
distant and remote leader standing in many ways above his own system,
whose charisma and ideas served to set the general tone of politics." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Kershaw

Does this sound familiar??
