FBI Documents: Zimmerman Had a Bit of a "Hero Complex," but no Racism

This will complicate any ideas Eric Holder has about a race-based prosecution.

The Justice Department has responded to appeals to probe whether George Zimmerman committed any civil rights violations in the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin -- but previously filed FBI documents are already challenging the narrative that the shooting was racially motivated.

Sanford police detective Chris Serino told FBI agents last year that after examining the case, it appeared Zimmerman was suspicious of Martin because of his "attire, the total circumstances of the encounter and the previous burglary suspects in the community."

According to the document, Serino considered Zimmerman as having "a little hero complex, but not as a racist."

Here's a little context the media never reported:

Serino told the FBI that there had been several burglaries in the area, and that gang members in the community "typically dressed in black and wore hoodies."

Captain Ed points out another problem with the idea of federal charges:

The only basis for federal charges would have to rely on a hate-crime charge. Unlike the Rodney King case, where the DoJ pressed charges after a state court acquitted defendants, Zimmerman didn’t act under color of authority. He acted as a private citizen. Whether one believes he “profiled” Martin or not is irrelevant, because “profiling” is actionable by the DoJ only when police forces do it. And in this case, the DoJ’s own investigators concluded that racism didn’t play a significant role in the incident.

Oh -- and this is real retarded, sir.

And one more delicious bit -- Zimmerman's suit against NBC is now going forward "ASAP."

I know a number of police. Every single one (that I know personally) would probably describe him the same way. It comes (I think) from the idea (not entirely baseless) that their training makes them better suited to preventing/solving crime.

Basically, cops (in my experience) truly believe that the best thing for you to do is call the cops and lock your doors. Active defense (of yourself or your property, forget your neighbors or their property) is seen as "grand-standing" or "being an adrenaline junky" or "having a hero-complex."

It's either willful ignorance of Zimmerman's injuries or the idea that Trayvon was not responsible for his actions the moment he was (might have been) profiled.

It's like people like Torre think that being a victim of profiling (which they are convinced that he was) is a free ticket to whatever behavior follows, like a bull rushing at a red cape.

I'm still curious why people say that Trayvon did nothing wrong.

yup. Even if one thinks (or will allow) that Zimmerman did wrong by profiling, that is not justification for assault.

Now, maybe Trayvon was angry, and he escalated. And then Zimmerman himself, fearing for his life, escalated.

But in that case we've got two people escalating a situation and we don't have St. Trayvon Martyr.

Underlying this attitude is this assumption: that violence is the proper and permissible response to a perceived racial slight or "profiling."

Police were responding to his report of a suspicious person when

stopped yelling. The assailant fled the scene before police arrived.

And you know what, I just don't care. Not angry or bitter, just don't care--because everything I valued about the country is seemingly gone, so I just don't care. Progresives broke it, let them fix it. Let minorities be poorly educated. Let the nation's competitveness fall. Because the WASP-like white middle class that was is probable a thing of the past, as we all become lower middle class subjects of Leviathan, so I just don't care. Not going to fight the demographic tide, but not going to go out of my way to make it a success either. Not when a Simmerman gets show-trialed fir nothing but appeasement of the mob.

So much of the minorities they talk about are descendents of illegal immigrants, and so many of us will take quality of life hits because of it (as we already see eith ObamaCare), and we are so close to losing the American Experiment--that I just don't care. And...we were told the 1964 Immigration reform was not supposed to change the demographics of the nation.

Bull.

I have this funny feeling everything will turn out okay in the end, but I have to admit I have zero idea how to get there. My view is that Progressives created the majority minority issue in this country, they can solve whatever problems without my active help or loyalty. Oh, I'll obey because brute force demands it (until it doesn't)...

...Otherwise, I don't really care what issues minorities have, because they have already impacted my life to a great enough extent that they have exhausted my general good will. Let them solve their own issues, as my world picks up the pieces of a soon-to-be-destroyed middle class Protestant-ish culture.

America will be Balkanized. Not with hostility, just with lack of fealty and desire for commonweal.

Pure hypocrisy and evil agitation.

Even the poor Chicago girl who was killed a short time after attending the inauguration - there was no outrage, only "sadness". Michelle attended her funeral IIRC, but there were no calls for the head of her killer.

The agitators in the media and elsewhere (not necessarily the LIVs who believe them) hate us (right thinking people who aren't insane) and view black people with contempt.

Like, I cannot believe that anyone who actually knows the facts of this case would believe that "Trayvon did nothing wrong." It's bald-faced bullshit.

What happens is that people, like Torre, use it to advance political ends. LIV only hear part of the story from people like Torre, and that leads to the stupidity.

My question is to the people who would see the facts of this case, and honestly believe it's about white supremacy, or whatever. And if they exist, especially on the left, why don't they say more? and louder?

"I guarantee you weren't followed for no reason."

This is part of the problem. It's the victim mentality combined with (as I stated earlier) enhanced human narcissism. Because *they* knew they weren't there to steal something, that other guy had to know it, too- because he only exists in relation to "me." So if he's following, it's because of raaaaacism, not because they're dressed like a thug and loitering.

And if you suggest, that a) the "house dick" would much rather be back in the security room than actively following them or b) that they wouldn't be followed if they'd dress like someone who wasn't a thug and conduct themselves like some who wasn't a thug- you just don't "get it."

Face it: either he murdered Martin or it was pure Self-Defense. That's it. Those are the only two options. He can't have "sort of" murdered St. Drank.

So either he's guilty (in which case "compromise" isn't justice either), or he's not guilty (in which case... "compromise" isn't justice either). There is no "middle ground" or "grey area" here.

Other than that (and the fact that the dispatcher testified, under oath, that they are not allowed to and do not have authority to issue 'orders').

Other than being completely wrong, she was completely correct, and perfectly proud to pontificate on her rock-solid misconceptions.

I think the DOJ will do it anyway, because it is not about the law with them, it is about politics. They know it will be a literal 'punishment' to GZ just by making him jump through the hoops again. They were the ones that pushed FLA to go through this latest trial.

Posted by: Guy Mohawk at July 15, 2013 11:04 AM (4+FWp)

144 The DOJ was directly involved in the initial state charges being brought vis their "community relations division". They also were involved in getting the local police chief, who refused to bring charges due to a lack of evidence, removed.

There is too much at stake here for Obama and Holder. They will find a way to pursue a case and it will be inventive. Look for any loophole if federal law they can exploit, and it will be done.

The goal is not only to throw red meat to Obama/Holder supporters, but also to buy time. Even if the case eventually is dropped, it won't be until they have flogged Zimmerman, destroyed his life and milked this for all the political value possible.

154 Having worked in customer service within the last few years, I can say that the annoying greeting you get in every store is pretty standard.

And it has a lot to do with secret shoppers. They usually have a line on their little sheets that asks if they were greeted within x amount of time of entering the store (usually about 2 minutes).

I hated doing it, which is why I now work in an office where I barely talk to anyone. Much better.

Oh, I'm not saying it doesn't occur. I'm saying that it doesn't occur only to blacks. For example, about ten years ago, I got dragged to the mall by my wife at the last minute, and I'm wearing a ball cap, sweatpants and an old coat, because I was working around the house when I left.

As we were leaving, I made an impulse decision to stop into a nice men's store to look at their wool overcoats, as I was planning on getting one at some point. As I'm looking at coats, this salesman approaches me with a curled lip, like I'm a pile of dogshit he just stepped in and says, "You might find those coats to be a little expensive."

So I told him, "They run about what I expected, but don't worry. I won't burden YOU with the commission when I buy it. That'll go to someone that's got some fucking manners."

Now, I could've bought his ass ten times over, but I looked like a guy with a fucking cup in his hand. Who was right and who was wrong? If he was wrong, did I have any part in forming his conceptions? I'm thinking yes.

171 When I worked in retail, at a large bookstore with tons of smallish non-book items for sale in displays everywhere (jewelry, New Age trinkets, etc., kids trading cards, etc.) that were ripe for sticky fingers, I profiled and learned that the people I caught ( or more often, the people who left the store immediately before I'd find a piece of opened and hidden packaging in the section they were in) were not identifiable by race or age, with some exceptions. Groups of young teenage girls are fucking thieves when they travel in packs, white, black, yellow, or plaid. Behavior was the best tip. Often a couple doing the "can you look up this obscure book I only know half the title of, please?" distraction while the other one stuffs incense trays down his pants. Or a person alone who seems to always be an aisle away from you, until suddenly you turn your head and he's gone. If the guy was holding a magazine, there's a 99% chance when I check sales against inventory that day we'll be missing one. Race was pretty useless as an indicator.

There's a local electronics chain I will never set foot in again because when I was 22 and sneaker-clad and carrying Christmas cash to buy a VCR, none of their salesmen would even make eye contact with poor white trash on the showroom floor (which seems like a really bad sales policy in Indiana, FFS).

But when I was in grad school one semester I had this roommate who went everywhere in his ratty trenchcoat, and we got greeted and followed and eyed a lot, except in the comic book store.

I was a teller a while back and I greeted a guy right as he walked through the door. By his nonresponse, his stride, and his demeanor, I knew immediately that I was going to be robbed. Sure enough, he passes me a note telling him to give him all of the money. That was a fun day.

but perhaps not.

Posted by: chique d'afrique
-------------

In retail, the salespeople are pressured to address shoppers. If they are paid on commission, they tend to be especially 'attentive'. There is a delicate balance involved between being available/helpful, and being so close as to seem pushy. I used to train my guys to simply say 'Hello', 'Good Morning', whatever (which made the customer aware that their presence was recognized), and then retire to some visible spot and busy themselves. So, the customer's presence was acknowledged (people do not like being ignored) and the salesman was obviously available to help if help was desired. FWIW, I also trained my people that it was fairly easy to figure out what people were looking for just by observing the stuff they were looking at.

I expect that if you took a poll, you would find that most people feel from time-to-time feel that sales staff are paying a little too much attention. Of course, from time-to-time, it seems impossible to find anyone to help at all.

I also have to say that shop lifting is at an all-time high. My wife works at a well-known department store, and the quantity of stolen is appalling. They are constantly on the look-out as a consequence. If it means anything, most of those (by far) busted at her store are white folks. They are also heavy into steal/return scams, re-label scams..., all sorts of things like that.

226 There's a local electronics chain I will never set foot in again because
when I was 22 and sneaker-clad and carrying Christmas cash to buy a
VCR, none of their salesmen would even make eye contact with poor white
trash on the showroom floor (which seems like a really bad sales policy
in Indiana, FFS).

Oh oh! Was it Best Buy. They pulled that shit on me in WI. Friend of mine and I, looking like a couple of poor college students, go into the local best buy to buy my friend a new TV. This friend actually made around 90k a year at the time, but was dressing like he was still a grad student. The sales people would not even look at us.

Went up to a manager, and told him...what was going on. Explained that my friend had a ton of money, and that we were taking our business elsewhere. Even though elsewhere was more expensive. The manager tried, at that point to get us some help, but we told him "no. Too little, too late."

I've got a good one too from when I was a teenager. I was in a mall, and mall security tried to accuse me of shoplifting from Wilson's Leather. I hadn't even stepped foot into the store. The security guy was "you stole something from there...the cashier saw you". I laughed and said "prove it". My friends...who *were* in the store, came out and started telling him that I had been waiting for them outside the store. He would have none of it. Finally I said, "fine, if you *really* think I stole something from the store, call the police." He walked away. I *did* look pretty shady though...lol

Interesting part is that I was wearing the sneakers I'd been wearing the last couple nights, including multiple fireworks sessions where I had ground out a bunch of smoldering remnants with those shoes. Initial detection found something, and the test confirmed a relatively benign residue of firework powder? I don't know.

Well as a former store manager I can tell you the staff was trained to ask everyone who came into the store if they could be helped. It's part of customer service to acknowledge them. Personally I get pissed off when I have to hunt around to find someone to help me. Many stores, and not just the Walmarts, have forgotten customer service. 262 Secret Shoppers: I was fired from a job when I was a young man thanks to one of those a-holes.

I worked at a drug store that rhymes with Shmite- Shmade. The tiny store had no back room whatsoever, trucks were unloaded onto stock carts which were wheeled directly onto the sales floor. That's the way it was done, the way I was trained to do it, and the only way possible to do it since there was NO BACK ROOM. Every truck ever received at that store was unloaded the exact same way. It was a VERY low-volume store so it was no big deal.

The Sekrit Shopperz reported me for "having unworked stock all over the sales floor."

When the district manager fired me, I asked where, exactly, I was supposed to put the stock carts when there was no back room. He couldn't answer since there was no answer. But he fired me anyway.

Yeah, I've played the entire deck and 2 of the expansions (sadly in one game) so I think I've seen most of the cards they've put out.
It's not that it's bad, or that I'm offended, it's just that there's clearly a bias there, as if there's precisely 0 liberal stuff to make fun of.

281 Undue attention?

Here's a fun story.
My wife and I were driving home from a restaurant late one night here in Rancho. I was sloshed, slumped in the passenger seat, she was totally sober (she had work at 6am the next day). Car was in perfect mechanical condition. She flips her blinker, turns right, and next thing we know, the lights come on. The cop walks up to the car, looks in the window, I chime in with the wife asking "whats the problem officer" and he acted like he just saw a ghost "OH WOW SORRY DIDN'T SEE YOU IN THE CAR", then proceded to tell my wife (at 1am) "your registration expires next month".

I chalk it up to a bored cop, because nothing of interest really happens in my town, but that line about not seeing me in the car when he flagged my wife...like knowing I was in the car too would have changed his decision? Very strange.

But hey, some people are bored. Some are dicks. Then there are cops.

I mentioned this on the ONT last night.

Worship leader at our church is black. Wife is white. His kids are epically awesome. Especially his 20ish son. After the verdict, the kid's very first facebook post was "So if there's a race war, whose side am I supposed to be on?"

Talking to him at church and he says some of his black friends were spouting the typical "What? This is ok? Am I gonna get shot now?"

His response was "Well, are you gonna act like a thug? Cause if so...."

286 OT, but ARRRGH. I am trying to do work and do not want to do it, since it involves telling people to do something that I've been repeating ad infinitum for weeks. These particular people are smart enough that they should be able to figure out what to do without having to ask me what they have to do. They're smart people, and they pull this shit EVERY year. It's just laziness, pure and simple. They want me to do the work for them. I frigging HATE dealing with these people.

288 I had a boyfriend whose appearance was total profiling catnip to cops here in California. He was Russian Jew originally from New York, but he looked like a potential Chicano gangbanger. Every so often he regaled us with a new tale of being stopped and questioned, sometimes thoroughly frisked. Once I was with him walking across a parking lot in Santa Monica, but a little apart from each other; I saw the policeman start to make a beeline for him and tacked to rejoin him and indulge in familiarities, and the cop veered away quickly. A mutual friend of musical talent (after witnessing one of these stops himself) even made a song about it all, with a chorus that ended "always remember / keep a white boy at your side."

His attitude was always one of wry (if slightly biting) humor. He certainly wasn't going to do a makeover and lose the long hair and devilish beard and flipflops, but he wasn't going to flip his shit over the cops' perceptions of him either. And it took that hair to start noticeably graying before the cops starting losing their keen immediate interest in him.

Strike 1: Sean Noffke, the dispatcher, is not a cop.

Strike 2: Sean Noffke, the dispatcher, never told Zimmerman to, "stay in his car", the dispatcher told Zimmerman, "We don't need you to do that." Kinda like, "That's very helpful but it's really not required."

Strike 3: Zimmerman was not in his car when the dispatcher told him, "We don't need you to do that."

Yeah, police officers operate on some interesting assumptions. Regarding the bank robbery I mentioned earlier, the police really questioned me hard on the guy's ethnicity.

I told them he was Asian and they looked at me like I was crazy. They basically said "But he was wearing sunglasses. How do you know he was Asian? Couldn't he have been Hispanic? He was probably Hispanic wasn't he?"

They practically convinced me that I was wrong (as though the eyes are the only way you can "look Asian") and that I'd been foolish not to consider other possibilities. They catch the guy. He's Asian. I feel vindicated and I come away understanding some unusual things about how the police question witnesses after a crime.

310 "what do I tell my children?"

Tell them that attacking some one for following you is a bad decision. Tell them that when you look for trouble you may well find some one who is ready for it.

Tell them that you are allowed to defend yourself if attacked and that the police are not there, indeed do not have an obligation, to protect you.

with a curled lip, like I'm a pile of dogshit he just stepped in and
says, "You might find those coats to be a little expensive."

So I told him, "They run about what I expected, but don't worry. I
won't burden YOU with the commission when I buy it. That'll go to
someone that's got some fucking manners."

Now, I could've bought his ass ten times over, but I looked like a
guy with a fucking cup in his hand. Who was right and who was wrong? If
he was wrong, did I have any part in forming his conceptions? I'm
thinking yes.

But still, fuck that guy.

I love fucking with those people. I don't dress up much, usually. I wear suits at weddings and funerals. The last time I was looking for a suit I was dressed as usual for me, jeans, some variation of a black T, long hair, etc. The salesman kept following me around the store. He makes a comment like "the affordable ones are over there". I ignored him at first, but he kept steering me that way. I decided to play along. He went to help me put on a the jacket, and I said "hold on a minute here", and started taking my watch off, and I said "here hold my rolex, I don't want to scratch it on these pieces of shit you keep pushing on me". lol

Yes, I hate sales people hovering over me, and they are doing it more. I think it has more to do with the bad economic times, and they are paid on commission, so they are going to hound me to death to buy something and pressure me to buy more.
