Oh Perfect: Deputy Director of CIA Resigns; To Be Replaced with White House Lawyer With No CIA Experience

But I imagine he'll be good at not answering Congress' questions.

The deputy director of the CIA is leaving the agency and being replaced by a White House lawyer who has never worked at the agency.

“As much as I would selfishly like to keep Michael right where he is for as long as possible, he has decided to retire to spend more time with his family and to pursue other professional opportunities,” CIA Director John Brennan said in a statement announcing Michael Morell’s departure. “In many respects, Michael has come to personify the strengths and qualities of this great organization, and it is difficult for me to imagine CIA without Michael’s exceptionally sharp mind, tremendous energy, and absolute dedication to mission. But I am comforted by the fact that Michael will be able to spend more time with his wonderful family.”

...

The switch seems sudden because Obama just nominated Haines to another post in mid-April, when he named her to be the next legal adviser to the State Department. Before her White House job, Haines was the State Department’s assistant legal adviser for treaty affairs.

1. He's spending more time with his family. Hopefully we'll know the real reason on Friday at 5:45 pm ET.

2. God bless State Department lawyers. Such wonderful jobs they do of enforcing loyalty and messaging.

I just looked up Morrell: he's 55 years old. So he just up and decided to retire at age 55 while the shit was hitting the fan in the Administration? Sure.

Also, note the language above. "Spend more time with his family" and "pursue other professional opportunities." Hey, numbnuts, it's one OR the other, since they're kinda mutually exclusive, yes? "Spending time with the family" and "pursuing other shit" is kinda like saying you weren't there when someone got killed, and besides, it was self-defense, and you killed him by accident.

They've never gotten any answers from this administration as to what exactly happened, or why so many members of SEAL Team Six were on the one copter.

They say they began hearing "clicking" noises on their phone, and receiving strange texts. Verizon said the texts appeared to come from the U. S. and Afghanistan.

I have seen all this in more than one person my age.

It is a point of personal pride with me that I look my best, within reasonable limits. For example, I color my hair butwould never have plastic surgery.

let me tell you this: If you do not keep yourself up as you get older, you are IGNORED by people in stores, banks, and government.

This is the money I spend to avoid being a non-person in my public affairs. If you think this isn't true, ask some people you know who are in their 60's how easily they get service from stores.

My banker actually told me (after a discussion about finance and such) that he was amazed I was his mother's age. I assume his mother doesn't keep herself up.

SCOAMF's incompetence is defined by and a direct result of his ideology and upbringing. An inflexible ideologue and a narcissist who has an unshakeable belief in his weltanschauung and in his own brilliance.

Amen, sista. It takes a lot of work for me to look "natural" while being natural. I would not have surgery, not that there is anything wrong with it, if the ladies want it, go for it (have you noticed, however, that the "girls" in Hollywood all end up looking alike? Weird. I digress). I choose not to have the knife nor the poison needles because I have no doubt I would have an adverse reaction like the women who inject their own butts with motor oil to look like Beyonce. I would have stuff move and become a second nose on my forehead.

I am high maintenance and too bad. Sunscreen is your friend,as is exercise. But no way am I turning into a dimmycrat berkinstock woman or, heaven forbid, chillary (hi! Mary Cloggenstien of Maine!). Had lunch with this guy a few years back (early 2000s). Nice enough, looked soooo young to be heading up the intel division. Wasn't overwhelmed, though he was far better than thedull/dim folks I met with later as a result of our lunch.

As for experience, in this administration - as with so much else - words simply fail to express the decline from both the prior administration, and the longer-term norm. The first term DepSecDef? (nice guy, but he literally would never even been considered as a staffer for Wolfowitz, his predecessor)

Things went seriously off the rails in the Clinton years. Short-hand is that the Dem partylost its mind and soul on national security around the end of Vietnam; by the Clinton years, there were hardly any serious foreign policy figures left from the Dem side (during the 50 years of Cold War, both parties had an abundance of serious figures with experience to staff most positions). So you had some prettyunimpressive lightweights (largely congressional staff) appointed to big jobs, often with disastrous results. Dubya's worst personnel decision (twice): keeping Tenet, both initially andesp. after 9/11. Good guy, but always out of place.

ByObama, of course, the Dems had just about nobody serious left. Even if he turns out to be as bad WRT op security/SEALs/etc. as some reports have it, Panetta is arguably the last (weak) example of the old generation, Beltway senior Dem with some sort of gravitas and sense of responsibility in the foreign policy field. Aside from this you have quasi-academic freaks (Rice, Power), Hill staff of a lower grade than even Clinton relied on, and K Street drone lawyer types. Oh - and dumb freaks like Hagel, ridiculous empty political hacks like Clinton, and smart but misguided freaks like Brennan.
