Moral Support: Rep. Louie Gohmert Delivers Cough Drops, Chocolate to Flagging Filibusterer Rand Paul
Democrats To Object to Sense of the Senate Resolution Stating It's Unconstitutional to Kill Non-Combatant American Citizens on American Soil

Just happened.

Meanwhile, an aid to Michael Bloomberg, who believes he should control what soft drinks you drink, thinks you should also trust the President's unilateral authority to kill Americans without process.

Paul Would Now End the Filibuster for a Sense of the Senate Resolution... but the Democrats intend to object to even voting on it.

And yes, Dick Durbin objected. He said they'd "have a hearing."

Florida state Sen. The bill would mandate that ammo buyers take the anger management course every 10 years.

Noting that drone strikes may not be the best way to go after low-level insurgent groups isn't isolationism.

He said he is STILL for the original Afghanistan mission.

But whatever this isn't a debate about Rand's views, but on keeping Obama accountable.

122 'Americans are ok with Obama's drone program'

Obama doesn't have a 'program' he has an expedient; when it was useful a month ago, six months ago, yesterday. That expedient can change tomorrow. What ever he needs, when he needs it. His prerogative. Benghazi? Someone else will handle it. Drone strikes? He gets a list; ok, this one, that one, 'if you think it necessary'. His 'decisions' are not decisions, they are pronouncements; you have my permission to do what you think is the right thing to do. If it goes bad, it's your baby.

When did he preach isolationism? He said wars should have conclusions... how is that isolationist? His point about Iraq was interesting. Apparently he sponsored a bill to de-Authorize military operations in Iraq. I mean the war's over, right? Apparently not since only 15 senators voted yes... this is a very good point, is the authorization to go to war in Iraq now another endless bill that gives the feds endless power to do whatever they want over there whenever their heart desires. His point is about checks and balances of power, the power to make war is and should be with Congress.

135 If he yields the floor to another senator to take a break of any length he'd have to ask for unanimous consent to get control of the floor back after that senator is finished. A Democrat would object. Therefore Rand has to keep going himself or else he would yield to another senator and the filibuster would end once that person called it quits. This is why Rand has been yielding only for purposes of answering questions without losing control of the floor.

Staying on topic is not a requirement of a filibuster. Rand Paul can talk about any damn thing he wants. I for one hope Paul gets loopy from fatigue and actually does start calling out Obama as a SCOAMF and Joe Biden as a mindless windbag buffoon and remind us all that the First Lady looks likethe alien gorilla in 'Plan 9 from Outer Space'. 177 #141 His overriding concern is this unconstitutional use of drones.

The Brennan nomination is only a vehicle.

He supported Hagel to give him credibility when starting this filibuster. The filibuster isn't about Brennan, it is using Brennan's nomination as a bargaining chip to get answers about the drone policy.

The smartness about this strategy is that now he has Code Pink, ACLU and Wyden supporting the filibuster. That is no mean feat for a Tea Party guy.

And lest people recoil in horror from these supporters, I would remind you that opposition to this policy from both sides of the aisle, led by a Tea Party Republican, is a Big Deal. It erodes Obama's base.

On August 28, 1957, Thurmond took a steam bath to dehydrate his body so it could absorb liquids without requiring a bathroom break. Armed with malt tablets and bits of cooked hamburger and diced pumpernickel, he began talking at 8:54 p.m., and he didn't stop for the next 24 hours and 18 minutes.

...

THE LAVATORY LIMITATION
To conduct a one-man filibuster, a senator must remain on the Senate floor continuously and talk nonstop. Bodily functions present a distinct problem. Senator Thurmond took a steam bath before his record-setting 1957 filibuster in order to dehydrate himself, reducing his need to use the bathroom [source: Carlson]. 217 THE LAVATORY LIMITATION

To conduct a one-man filibuster, a senator must remain on the Senate
floor continuously and talk nonstop. Bodily functions present a
distinct problem. Senator Thurmond took a steam bath before his
record-setting 1957 filibuster in order to dehydrate himself, reducing
his need to use the bathroom [source: Carlson]. But the call of nature
has brought many a solitary filibuster to an end.

"Nobody's military can be everywhere all the time. You'd probe capabilities and dispositions with drones before committing live pilots."

If they are probing then an imminent threat doesn't exist. Drones are used to gather intel or hit a specific target. And a drone in the US shouldn't be deployed with ordinance because "maybe" they'll see something to warrant an immediate response.

This is that due process Rand is talking about. 4th amendment, 5th amendment. There is a reasonable right to privacy. We aren't a police state. The feds should not be spying on people without specific warrants that result from specific evidence sufficient to yield a warrant.

As a matter of principle any US citizen has a right to due process. There shouldn't be secret lists of people in the US to kill.

309 My understanding of the filibuster rules:

1. You can't leave the floor. Leave the floor, filibuster's over.

2. Somebody's got to be talking, either Rand or an interlocutor.

3. Somebody -- maybe Strom Thurmond, I'm too tired to look it up -- simply had a few aides walk up with a blanket and a bucket while somebody else asked a loooooooong question and that solved the bladder problem.

"Frankly, I do not know what the policy would be now compared to the order given on 9/11 but we need to learn from our past. The way Clinton treated terrorism was criminal and we will see similar events if we decide once again to voluntarily put ourselves in that position."

Well, the issue is Constitutional. We can debate the Constitutionality of operations outside the USA, but within our borders there is no debate. And there certainly is nothing going on to warrant such a profound encroachment. Where is all the terrorism? This huge threat that the TSA would have you believe exists, where is it? So not only are we giving up freedom for security, but there is no evidence our security is even threatened... at least not to the extent we are lead to believe.
