25 The article on the CA blackouts is not correct.

The epidemic of power outages and “rolling blackouts” which nearly shut down California in
the early 2000s may be returning. Back then, the culprits were
unscrupulous energy providers like Enron and a poorly-thought out
process of deregulation. This time, renewable energy would be to blame,
as the state has pushed to increase the use of solar and wind energy
without ensuring that there is enough traditional power generation to
keep the grid stable on cloudy, windless days.

The cause of the blackouts wasn't the "deregulation and Enron". That did cause the price of electricity to go through the roof. (I had a friend paying $2000/month and they use very little electricity there - no A/C or heat pumps).

What caused the blackout was the combination of NIMBYs, NAMBYs, and NOPEs combined with a record setting drought in WA State.

CA gets over half of their electricity from out of State.

29 - "WH Threatens Bob Woodward, Juicebox Mafia Forms Human Shield"

When Bob Woodward of all people is your reality check then you've got major problems. Regarding the young and idiotic members of that "Juicebox Mafia" simply they're a function of what is a horrific demographic. Uneducated. Woefully inexperienced. Liberal. Staggeringly clueless. If Gen. Y were a stock it would be short sold into being delisted.

- "Economy Grew 0.1% In Fourth Quarter"

Get used to seeing headlines along those same lines. Outside of the sewing circles of blogs and talk radio the brutal reality is that elections, laws and policies have severe consequences. We've already devolved into Europe West with higher crime rates. What's even scarier is that the worst by far is yet to come. Just wait until inflation takes root. Just wait until Medicare and then Social Security go supernova. Pretty soon we'll be pining for 0.1% growth.

I'm going to go a little against the crowd here and say its fairly significant. Of course, that could change if he recants in the next couple of days, but people of my parent's generation are kind of the ones who started "Low Info Voting" and they all lionize Bob Woodward. If he says it, It Must Be True.

So for him to publicly call out the White House is a distinct win for us- as long as he sticks with his story. If he comes out with "oh, it was all just a misunderstanding, they've apologized and clarified, and we're all one big happy family again" in the next few days, it won't amount to anything.

the most ignored line in that article will be the obfuscated one where they basically admit that this is at most a phase.

I'm curious they're calling this kid "transgendered." because he/she (it) wants to use pink blankets, wear woman's clothes and line up with the girls.

If the kid suddenly decided he/she (it) wanted to be "Black" would we call her Trans-Racial.

No, seriously, not a joke. (more a reductio ad absurdum than anything.)
My guess is "no" we'd tell the kid to buck up and play the game with the body they were born with. But in this case for some odd reason they start pandering to the kid which I'm sure only encourages confusion.
Here's the real contradiction. Apparently the 6 year old was "talking about surgery" before and suddenly is not. Really? So he's OK with being a cross dresser and using the little girls room but that's it? And what I assume the parents think without a normalizing influence it'll all revert at some magic age? The morons have smoked too much pot.

(*OK, the racial comparison may be a bit off because we accept there's really no difference between Black/white/brown whatever, but there is obvious differences between men and woman. But it was the analogy I got, and I think it's close enough if not spot on.)

I agree and disagree, Allen. Yes, it's a big thing that Woodward made his statements. But he didn't make them about Obama, or even (IMO) the White House. He just blamed some White House "staffers." He's given Obama and Obama's inner circle an easy out.

If he had come out and said, "The Obama administration threatened me," then I'd give it much more weight. As it is, the LIV voters who DO lionize Woodward have no reason, at this point, to link his accusations to Obama. "I'm sure President Obama will clean house now that Bob Woodward has said something," they'll say amongst themselves, full of self-assurance. "President Obama would NEVER let this kind of behavior go unpunished if he knew about it."

And if Comrade Stalin had just known about the quality of life in the gulag, he'd never have stood for it, either.

The office phone rang. I answered it and said "Good morning, (Business name)". The person on the other end said "I was told you moved and closed, is that true?" I blinked and replied "I"m sorry, what?". The person launched into this big speech about how she'd been told we moved and closed and why wasn't she notified and blah blah blah. I finally interrupted and said "No, we're not closed. We haven't closed or moved, who told you this?" Needless to say, it was all oh people around town and was I sure we hadn't closed. I assured her that we had not. But, yes, someone called a business, a person at that business answered the phone and the person on the other end still thought the business was closed. Yuppers. I really don't understand people at all.

(In her somewhat defense, the property where the office is located is up for sale and I'm guessing someone saw the for sale sign and put 2 and 2 together and got plaid but you'd think that the number not being disconnected and someone answering the phone there would kind of mean the business is still open)

Republican group readies immigration blitz

The American Action Network is poised to launch a major advocacy campaign aimed at winning support for immigration reform on the right – the first significant effort within the Republican coalition to create an atmosphere in which it is safe for GOP lawmakers to support an immigration bill.

The immigration effort will begin this weekend with a six-figure television buy featuring former Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez urging voters to support fixing “a broken system.” Longtime Republican fundraiser Fred Malek, who co-founded AAN with former Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman, said that the GOP is “increasingly viewed as intolerant and insensitive” to Hispanic voters.

“We haven’t addressed immigration reform in an intelligent and sensitive way, and until we do we can forget about the Hispanic vote,” Malek said.

86 WASHINGTON -- Bob Woodward isn't the only person who's received threats for airing the Obama administration's dirty laundry. It seems anyone is a potential target of the White House these days - even former senior members of the Clinton administration.

A day after Woodward's claim that a senior White House official had told him he would "regret" writing a column criticizing President Obama's stance on the sequester, Lanny Davis, a longtime close advisor to President Bill Clinton, told WMAL's Mornings on the Mall Thursday he had received similar threats for newspaper columns he had written about Obama in the Washington Times.

Davis told WMAL that his editor, John Solomon, "received a phone call from a senior Obama White House official who didn't like some of my columns, even though I'm a supporter of Obama. I couldn't imagine why this call was made." Davis says the Obama aide told Solomon, "that if he continued to run my columns, he would lose, or his reporters would lose their White House credentials."

The great East-West tension made this an odd time for real politic. At no other time in history would a weak and unpopulous country have been able to grow rich and influential, as Saudi has, just because they happened to be living on top of a natural resource. A greater power would have simply taken their resource by conquest or extortion.

Nope, not wrong. The jury is still kind of out on exactly how much babies can see at five months, and it varies like any other development. Since Coy is a triplet, though, it's pretty likely that he was born small and early, and that his development at that age was a little behind. So if any baby that young could tell pink from blue AND express that preference somehow, it's probably not this baby. Not that it matters anyway even if he was really advanced and actually chose pink---the whole pink is for girls thing is cultural; 200 years ago boy babies were dressed inpink because red was manly, so light red was for boys.

Ugh. I hate calls like that. It takes a minute for you to be sure that YOU'RE not the stupid one, because the question as it's posed is itself so stupid that you have to wonder if you're just completely misunderstanding what the hell it is they're saying.

This reminds me of a favorite story I like to tell about my sister. She used to work in the NH Division of Public Health, as Admin Assistant to the Division Director. As such she'd get a lot of phone calls that she'd either answer herself or field off to the individual Bureau that would have the information the caller was looking for.

One day she gets a phone call from a woman who wants to be connected to the National Guard.

"NH Division of Public Health, how may I help you?"

"Transfer me to the National Guard, please."

"I'm sorry?"

"The National Guard. Transfer me to them, please."

"I'm sorry, ma'am, but I don't have the number for the National Guard. This is the Division of Public Health."

"Well it's part of the government, right? So just get the number and transfer me!"

"Ma'am, have you tried the phone book? Are you near a computer? I'm sure you can find their number right on the Guard's website."

"Why are you giving me such a hard time! Just transfer me to the National Guard!"

The woman refused to consider that my sister wasn't her own personal operator. Finally my sister just Googled "NH National Guard," gave the woman the number, and hung up.

Part of me wonders if the woman called the number and, when someone answered the phone, immediately started with, "You should talk to the woman who tranferred me to you. She was very rude. It was like pulling teeth to get the number! Now, transfer me to Public Health, please."

It would be much harder, now, for me to support him in a Presidential Primary, because I agree that any yes vote for Hagel- heck, and yes vote on Cloture for Hagel- was a vote to f*ck our military with a rusty chainsaw.

But that doesn't mean I can't support him in other areas, and it doesn't mean he's "dead to me."

We have too few allies as it is. Asking the son of Luap Nor to be a bulwark of defense for our military might be a bridge too far.

People will bitch about Subway's quality or pricing, but aren't willing to pay more.

The cops are hard asses and the Amigo Cops are pretty hard on us diablo blancos...

to be expected I guess.

---

My POV is colored by the tales told by some family friends who ended up in El Paso while working at UT Pan American.

They were very unhappy that they had to leave BR, though, so that may have influenced what they said.

233 216 Moving to NC might turn out to have been a great idea. Despite the stereotype of Red states getting bluer as Northerners move down South, NC has had massive migration and along with it came the first all GOP executive and legislative branches in living memory. Now we'll see what they do with their power.

---

I think NC is experiencing the same thing that LA is experiencing... that old-school Southern Democrats are realizing exactly how screwed the national party are and are defecting to the GOP.

Control of the legislature and senate flipped to the GOP post-Katrina here. Part of it was the loss of the New Orleans political machine to ensure statewide wins, but a decent amount of it had to do with a lot of old-school Dem politicians deciding that they didn't want the libtards dragging them down like an anchor. Lots of defections across the aisle.

Do any of you know why the Vatican has not already held a papal conclave to elect a new pope? Last year, when his name was being floated for VP, I heard lots of Libertarians say that his candidacy would not influence their vote one bit because he was too "Republican". Since that time, he appears to have won over at least some of the younger L voters. To the real Luap Nor voters, he'll probably never be loony enough.

I've been engaging with a young L voter on twitter, and I'm trying to understand their viewpoints.

So far, what I've gathered is this:

They see Hagel more as an order taker than an order maker and that he wasn't the hill to die on.

They agree with Hagel on some points, specifically about the bloated Defense budget.

They really wanted to fight the Lew nomination.

The issue here isn't about the kid himself as much as it is about the parents getting what they want.

They are intent on pushing the kid as trans and want acceptance of it by everyone else, which involves dictating terms.

A court would likely say that the school is attempting to make "reasonable accomodations" by allowing the boy into a faculty bathroom and throw a suit by the parents out.

263 "I've been vaguely listening to the developments in this story the last week or so. Talk about fucking child abuse. The kid is SIX. Six! It's not the child who's confused about his sexuality; it's the fucking parents. "

It's moments like these when we get to see the true colors of the LGBT movement, a mental cancer. Mentally abusing a 6-year-old is still clear to most of us, but somehow doing the same damn thing to teenagers or even confused adults who had jacked up childhoods is ok. It's no different than drug addicts handing out meth in order to justify their own issues. If more people are doing it it must be ok right?

You know, I think we should give a free pass to men who are abusive to women. They were born that way. In fact, in order to feel fulfilled they need female faces to smash in.

And we wonder why Obama got elected twice? Our root problems go back to moral issues. A society that has become so debase that it would embrace child abuse like this, really, how do you expect them to vote?

276 253 Allen G,

It's your land or family's land and to quote Han Solo, "I would not want you to run into any imperial entanglements."

Ponder your desire to put the land to use and be trickle fed capital.

At some point we could set up a Yahoo group for a kickstarter properly cloaked in inhouse code for OPSEC and have a moron meetup in I forget you're near DFW or is it HTown?

Point is we need to do some reflection on a long term strategy and the way to political power as a broad front force in an area is to have a plan and a wide economic impact on a region.

That would involve fostering newcomers, developing a genuine separate social network that while not hostile to local interests has a unified vision.

One thing I was nervous at at the time I was in leesville but upon reflection and away from my people there ws their mistrust of the LDS success in "infiltrating" Baptist territory, but there is a LOT to be learned from LDS method if not their goals.

You and I have been bouncing analysis of the East texas areas back and forth for a while, and the Lumberton issue recently has me pondering whether or not Texas herself doesn;t need some brush clearing at the ISD level.

There's a lot to ponder, but the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.

Step one is "what practical steps can we take to aid us in our personal and political lives?"

I think a kickstarter for a workshop, with an area that lent itself to a "MoronaPalooza" gathering place is if not step one not much further than step 25.

280 Military to spend more on care under sequester
By Gregg Zoroya - USA TODAY
Posted : Thursday Feb 28, 2013 8:06:58 EST
Sweeping budget cuts going into effect Friday create a paradox for military medicine: spending money to save money, Army, Navy and Air Force medical officials say.

As thousands of civilian medical workers are furloughed because of the “sequester,” patients will be sent to private doctors at public expense to receive timely medical care, according to the military medical officials.

282 At some point we could set up a Yahoo group for a kickstarter properly
cloaked in inhouse code for OPSEC and have a moron meetup in I forget
you're near DFW or is it HTown?

DFW.

And its about time for another Moron Meetup around here. Someone with more time than me should plan one. I planned the last one, and it was fun, but I don't have a lot of time to pursue things like venue and keep a straight list of who's interested in coming and such.

286 255 NDH,

eh "maybe" I understand what you're saying and your ability to interact with them speaks highly of your coolness under idiocy.

While I was on twatter Seven-Layer-cake and I were sorta chummy she's a pretty popular New England gal....

she invited a Luap Nor Kulty to a chat she and I were having who frankly was such an idealist he could not grasp that yes Virginia sometimes a nation needs a Sir Francis Walsingham type to safeguard against outside forces....

needless to say that while polite, I was enraged at the idiocy.

288 I think a kickstarter for a workshop, with an area that lent itself
to a "MoronaPalooza" gathering place is if not step one not much further
than step 25.

My cousin and her husband want to start "sustainable farming" out there. I would roll my eyes, but they have legit reasons for doing the "micro-farming" thing (two of their kids have Type-I diabetes: the fewer chemicals in their food, the better). And, since I want to get the farm started up anyway, who am I to complain if they want to as well?

The farm already has a little shop in it. It's got welding equipment and a few other tools (I know there's a forge and anvil, but I don't know if the forge is in working condition), so adding reloading equipment would not be out-of-bounds. Also there are deer and various fowl in the woods in the back 40. Yum.

logprof: My guess is that this is the first time it has happened, i.e., a pope resigned and there may be no rules because it has not happened before. So, they are following the rules that apply when one has died. Also, popes have been incapacitated due to illness and they have managed to run the place just fine.

I invited a gal to a conversation that BCochran and Aspiring Thrawn and I were having and I'm not sure I like the direction.

She is claiming that, during confirmation, part of the reason for Hagel's poor performance is due to being ambushed by Cruz with a "highly edited video".

291 282 Allen G,

That's right my foster brother is in DFW with his spouse and we have a niece to be seeing for the first time.

I almost stopped in DFW on the way home from Hood but the shop needed me on Monday.

I'm too far away, BUT I have a vision of about 6 slabs of good sirloin to be chopped on site and a witch's cauldron of corn on the cob and maybe a potluck for side fixings.....

the world's biggest Cookout/Hobo Hunt...

Texas style.

Texas is the whole game team, she is thriving even while shackled, and the texas model is our best hope for surviving the coming amnesty apocalypse.

We MUST keep Texas red or the nation is doomed.

292 Dickhole parents who view the school system as their own little sandbox of entitlements are just as dangerous to schools as the fucking teachers unions imo. Some stupid skirt, at a meeting of parents and school board members, asked "What if you have a 'gifted and talented' child who doesn't test well for it?" It took all my efforts to not say "Then you have a dumbass kid like his/her mother".

*SHUDDER* Lordy do I hate parents like that.

That's why I always say (or try to remember to say) that getting rid of teacher unions is only ONE part of the puzzle when it comes to fixing our schools. The other, far more difficult part is the fucking parents. There are a lot of great parents out there who are supportive of their children, but also supportive of a school's discretion with regards to rewarding or punishing their children. But then you have the Vanity Parents ("Little Suzy is just the smartest, most talented, most wonderful girl in the entire world! The only reason she got a C on this exam is because her teacher doesn't understand how bright and wonderful she is. I demand the score be adjusted, and her GPA, too!"); and you have the Vanishing Parents, who couldn't give a rat's ass about whether their child goes to school or not, and certainly don't bother helping with homework or going to parent/teacher conferences. As far as they're concerned, once the kid's old enough to go to school the school can be the kid's parental figure.

You HAVE to deal with the idiot parents in addition to the idiot teachers. Otherwise the kids are still going to get screwed coming and going.

correct they have the same ideological intensity bordering on mental illness that the JuiceBox Mafia has.

While they are like an elusive deer tempting to see as a good target that deer flashes tail and then tries to draw your fire towards your buddy.

My feelings on the Kult are complicated, and their embrace of the Loose Change idiocy.

Like I said yes God bless you for trying but I am at a loss as to their utility let alone their swayability.

298 288 Allen G,

Dallas will most likely be 'the capital or New York" of a new Texas republic...

Investment in the area is not a bad bet either way.

Like i said we've discussed it at length and yes we need something more formal.

Ponder on it. I can collate the cost of eqpt like I used to do "Sven builds a budget AR" posts on sundays.

Probably a good idea for one or more of the Morons looking to run Red. Keeping fairly spread out is a good idea.

But Eastland is fairly remote anyway.

Capital and financial center, certainly.

Atlanta can be the entertainment center. Houston and Nawlins our major ports.

We need Alaska too, for the resources. Hawaii will probably go back to self-Kingdom rule, with DC holding on to a big chunk of Oahu around the base.
