| Obama Mega-Bundler and Donor Announces Layoffs, Possibly Linked To China OutsourcingFrom the Hollywood Reporter. DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg said Tuesday that layoffs already have begun and that 350 of the studio’s 2,200 employees will have been let go by year’s end. “These things are very, very difficult to do,” Katzenberg told The Hollywood Reporter. “I would say it’s the hardest thing I’ve had to do since we started DreamWorks. We’ve never had to lay anybody off. It was against our culture. But it’s the right thing for us today, and it makes DWA strong going forward.”Interesting choice of words. Going FORWARD! And then, of course, there's this: Last August, DreamWorks Animation announced plans to develop a $3.1 billion cultural and entertainment district in Shanghai, in conjunction with a group of Chinese partners – complete with theaters, performance halls, restaurants, shops and an entertainment center decked out with a “Kung Fu Panda” theme. The projects has been billed rivaling New York’s Broadway and London’s West End.Recognize the name Jeffery Katzenberg? He was Obama's largest bundler and he also personally donated $1 million (along with Steven Spielberg) to Obama's super PAC Priorities USA. This would probably be a bigger story, but Mitt Romney Jeep Italians China something something. Comments1

DreamWorks Animation reported an $82.7 million loss in the fourth quarter after taking an $87 million write-down related to the flop “Rise of the Guardians,” Brooks Barnes reports. DreamWorks shares dropped 1.3 percent in regular trading and less than 1 percent in after-hours trading. Probably the greatest irony here is that liberals in the media-academe-Hollywood complex (BIRM) are so spacey and idiotic they would not be able even to grasp the numbingly obvious layers of irony. Hell, if you sat a liberal down with a puppet show and a flow chart and went over this story with them they'd still not be able to comprehend the manifest political points. C'est la vie.

BCochrans link ,
, Republicans are now proposing that Congress surrender an important piece of its Constitutional “power of the purse” for the last seven months of this fiscal year. As proposed, lawmakers would retain the power to overturn the president’s spending plan by March 22, but only under a resolution of disapproval that would demand two-thirds majorities in both the House and Senate to prevail over an Obama veto. The proposal would require — like the sequester — that no more than $42.6 billion of the cuts come at the expense of defense programs. Posted by: ette at February 27, 2013 10:47 AM (nqBYe) 67

Posted by: blaster at February 27, 2013 10:40 AM (pZDxu) I'm not at all sure sure that Canada is a non-union environment for the movie industry. Overall, we have the union disease more than you guys, but unions are on the wane in the private sector, at least. What probably brings the industry to Canada is tax money handed by government in the form of "incentives", the rationale for which is that they are "creating jobs". Which they are, if all you want is a temporary or part-time "job" that goes away when the production is done, or the incentives expire. For someone who is NOT in the movie industry, the movie (and TV show) making business is a righteous PITA. Peckerheads block off streets, clog them with endless lines of production trailers, etc. The sheer sense of entitlement that these twits hold is mind-boggling. Eff 'em all. And they have been pressuring the Hwood employees and unions (useless unions) for years. Special effects houses like Rhythm Hues even pay studios to do a film in hopes of getting future jobs! They are now bankrupt, like most other special effects houses.
The studios go around the states and get tax deals from eager legislators. I'm sure they donate to his or her campaign later too. Then they set up shop in RTW states like Louisiana. Then they go to China because even that is too expensive! Further, the government subsidizes the studios by allowing them to pay employees as independent contractors too and then giving them unemployment during their frequent layoffs. I think it's about time for all the liberals I know in Hollywood to wake up. They will have lots of time to think about it when they are sitting home unemployed. I think California ought to increase their state tax to 85% on anyone earning more than 500,000. And also increase their minimum wage to 15.00 / hr. Also should approve requirement for same sex couplebenefits on all businesses, approve euthanisia and partial birth abortions. Ban all oil , gas drilling or refining or pipelines. Remove all dams and prevent irrigation where any listed endangered species may live. They should grant all illegal immigrants full California citizenship including drivers licensesand medicaid benefits or any services where proof of citizenship was previously required. They should legalize all drugs and outlaw ownership or saleof any gun or weapon. They should require a license to smoke, own a pet, ride a four wheeler, buy salt or any other thing the state feels needs state oversight.

I work in an industry which makes extensive use of chinese Nationals. Yes they are westernized, having completed their education in our universities, but IMO for many the first loyalty is to China. I personally know several who have worked here for years, then packed up and moved back to China to work for start-ups in direct competition with their former employers. NDAs and non-competes are not enforced over there. Anyone returning with overseas experience is a fucking national hero. They can practically write their own ticket. In my annual security briefing, the last two years have emphasized industrial espionage as the number 1 threat, with china being the most frequently implicated. I agree, I hope Hollywood gets everything it deserves. But our technology base is threatened by hiring Chinese Nationals. Posted by: Rule #2 at February 27, 2013 11:44 AM (CypDC) 244

Good for you. You know what I've determined after a few years of working with a few Chinese Nationals in a lab: Many of them lie. (Yeah I know racist, blah blah blah.) I dunno what it is, my engineering friends don't have this problem, In biochem we suspected several of our our Chinese nationals were falsifying data (or at the very least lying about progress, because nothing ever came to fruition.) Strangely though, like I said my engineering friends, not so much with these problems. (His lab mate almost ran me over with a 4 wheeler though while I was chopping wood down at the hunting cabin, which is only notable because the Wood area is set behind the house to avoid that. I threw my axe to the ground, dived out the way, and hit ran over my axe getting it lodged underneath a tire. Surprisingly, no damage to the 4 wheeler.) Oh and most Chinese have never seen a gun in person, so they tend to really enjoy playing with them here. (That's less restricted to the Chinese though and generally true I've found of any area where Guns are heavily restricted yet the "demonizing" of them hasn't set in as it has in Australia and Britain.) MAgpul - F'ing damn right
Final slap to the Colorado politicos. We are proud to announce that within a matter of days we will be going live with a new program. Due to a bill currently moving through the Colorado legislature, there is the possibility that Colorado residents' ability to purchase standard capacity magazines will soon be infringed. Before that happens, and Magpul is forced to leave the state in order to keep to our principles, we will be doing our best to get standard capacity PMAGs into the hands of any Colorado resident that wants them. Verified Colorado residents will be able to purchase up to ten (10) standard capacity AR/M4 magazines directly from Magpul, and will be given immediate flat-rate $5 shipping, bypassing our current order queue. Our customers outside of Colorado, please know that our PMAG production will continue at an ever-increasing rate until we do relocate, shipments to our distributors in other states will continue, and that we do not expect relocation to significantly impact PMAG production. We are also aware that Colorado is not the only state with existing or pending magazine capacity restrictions; we are working on programs for other affected states as well. He was definitely a stalker under any definition. 2) I said he was modelled on Maurice Chevalier. ( an unfortunate juxtaposition coming after the "attempted rapist" statement.) The guy interviewing Joey is a shoe-in for a role at 'Perverted Justice.' Nice preteen girly voice.

WTF is he talking about? DreamWorks has laid off plenty of people. Their TV division is gone - those people weren't kept on - as well as their gaming, direct to video, and music divisions. I have family and many friends who were laid off by Katzenberg. By the way Speilburg doesn't own DreamWorks anymore and hasn't since the broke from Paramont.
