And the only reason the public remains unaware of what disasters Democrat governance is, is because ALL OF THE MEDIA are Democrat party members/operatives. (With very few exceptions.)
If the Media were made up of conservatives, and did the same thing that the liberals do in pushing their ideology, there would be virtually no Democrat office holders anywhere.

- "Red States Leap Ahead"

Obviously. That's the flip side of the California and national coins. It makes a helluva difference who's in charge.

- "Will Hispanics Ultimately Lean GOP?"

Extraordinarily doubtful. Once politics by pure identity takes root it become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Of course the ghastliest irony here is that one of the primary reasons why Hispanics are moving in lock step towards the Dems is because of the xenophobic elements of the extreme right. Having the likes of Buchanan, Malkin and Levin in your party has real world negative ripple effects. Then there are those who are not necessarily xenophobic, but merely are economically uneducated and ignorant. Victor Davis Hanson & Co. The National Review and CPAC crowds. Etc. They've poisoned the well.

47 I'll say it over and over till I turn blue in the face, that surplus doesn't mean shit if I don't see taxes go down.

Yes, because our taxes are so unreasonably high.

Yes, I would like to see a reduction in the sales tax rate in particular (the best way to get a tax cut to the most people) and the gas tax (as the second best way). But if we don't see them I'm not going to throw a hissy-fit.

On the other hand, the State is kind of handicapped in what they can do with that money: we've constitutionally limited our spending growth to population growth plus inflation (which the Federal Government still insists is flat, even though it so isn't). The State is projected to take in more money than it can legally spend. Which is a good problem to have.

On the other hand, I like the idea I heard this morning of a Tax holiday for "guns and hunting supplies" as well as one for "gun safety items (safes, etc.)" on March 2.

Senate Republicans requested access to the archive during the fight over the former Nebraska senator’s confirmation in light of allegations Hagel’s speeches included anti-Israel comments.

“The University of Nebraska, which myself and all my fellow students pay substantial tuition to, should not hold this public information hostage,” said JR Bloom, a student at the University of Nebraska and acting chairman of the Nebraska Federation of College Republicans. “I only hope that after confirmation, we will not discover information we regret not knowing prior because university leaders allowed Hagel to hide behind them.”

Nope, mine aren't that high. And much of that is driven by your locale, not the State. Your ISD gets to levy a property tax, as does your city/county. I'd like to see those go down too, but I suspect that's a bigger issue to people who either have smaller house notes or have much higher taxes.

My property tax in a year is right between two and three mortgage payments. Not terrible.

The South African hair thieves targeting dreadlocks

Dreadlocks can take several years to grow but many people do not want to wait and it is this need for instant long hair that is pushing the demand for ready locks in the black market, according to hairstylists.

The thieves are quick and sometimes ruthless and will use anything from a knife to broken glass to steal the prized hair - known on the streets as a cut and run.

Shoulder-length dreadlocks are sold for between 200 rand ($23; £15) and 700 rand, while longer ones cost as much as 2,000 rand.

84 Hey MPPP, TCM showed last night three Topper movies. Was interesting to see in the credits of the first movie, Hedda Hopper had a starring role. And Rochester was in the third movie.

Hopper was an actress, both stage and screen, for quite a while before she became a gossip columnist. She was actually pretty bunk-worthy in the early days, too, earning a "best legs in Hollywood" credit. Did you know her son Bill played detective Paul Drake in the Perry Mason show?

It also requires the students to dress in Islamic garb.

Yeah. I knew that because my family is chock-full of teachers, so I have to understand at least as well as they do how schools get funded. Also because I live in Arlington, so one part of my property tax goes there, but I'm in the Mansfield ISD, so one part of my property tax goes to them, and finally the State gets its portion.

And realizing how much the ISD gets is a real good way to make people realize why they really do want a voucher system.

113 Kennesaw’s 1982 gun mandate was a direct response to a gun -ban- enacted a year earlier in Morton Grove, Illinois. That was later deemed unconstitutional, but Kennesaw’s law is still on the books.

Added Lt. Graydon, “It was not meant to be an enforceable law. The police department has never searched homes to make sure you had a gun. It was meant more or less as a political statement to support citizens’ second amendment rights to own firearms.”

After the law went into effect in 1982, city leaders say they witnessed a 29% drop in crime. Over the last 30 years, the crime rate has remained low with just four gun-related homicides.

“Our crime rate is generally less than half the national average,” added Lt. Graydon.

Breathable nail polish a surprise hit with Muslims

With prayers five times a day, and a pre-prayer ritual that requires washing the hands and arms, traditional fingernail polish has been mostly off limits because it prevents water from making contact with the nails.

A new "breathable" nail polish by a Polish company, Inglot, is changing that.

The company and some Muslims say the polish is the first of its kind because it lets air and moisture pass through to the nail. A craze has built up around it with Muslim women in recent months after an Islamic scholar in the United States tested its permeability and published an article saying that, in his view, it complies with Muslim law.

Also:

Some Muslim women might put nail polish on after finishing the last prayer of the day before going out, and then take it off again before dawn prayers. They can also wear it during their periods, when they are excused from the prayers, but some find it embarrassing to do so because it could signal they are menstruating.

There are parts of the country where the girls have started to prefer the Boy Scouts' Venturing program (which, as you've guessed from context, is coed) because of the activities involved. Well time to go visit dealership again about what they think is a short in the Shelby's wiring.

Probably
should ask them 'if there is a short, could it possibly be shorting the
NV memory in the PCM? Thus deleting error codes?'

The obvious
thing is, if there is a short affecting the PCM in any way would affect
how the car operates. But be interesting to see if they fall for it. If
they do, I running out of that place.

The USA is now officially an insane asylum run by the most insane of the insane.

In my dysfunctional state of Florida a man faces 3rd degree felony charges for releasing helium filled balloons as a display of affection for his sweetheart. Apparently it's a crime against the environment.

Meanwhile the president is releasing thousands of illegals to pollute the environment, but that's ok.

Our corrupt and inept congress approved a dunderhead as Sec. of Defense and he was apparently late today for his first day on the job. Traffic was his excuse. He will be in good dunderhead company with Biden, Kerry and Boner.

We are funding and supplying weapons to terrorist groups disquised as governments in North Africa, the M.E. and who knows where else. That will end well.

The economy is going down the tubes and we are told don't worry, be happy. It's getting better, really.

If the history of what was America is ever written by smart and honest historians, I hope they ask; "WTF were you thinking? You had the best system any country did or could have and you blew it." If I am alive, and that happens I can say there was a remnent, a small remnent that did speak out and sounded the alarm. They went by many names, Tea Party was one. The People of the Horde was another. But they were laughed at, called extreme and reactionary, ridiculed and they were ignored.

210 Regarding the checkpoints:

The United States Border Patrol operates 71 traffic checkpoints, including 32 permanent traffic checkpoints, near the southern border of the United States

These checkpoints are located between 25 and 75 miles of the Mexico – United States border along major U.S. highways. Their situation at interior locations allow them to deter illegal activities that may have bypassed official border crossings along the frontier.

The checkpoints are divided among nine Border Patrol sectors: west to east, these are San Diego, El Centro, Yuma, Tucson, El Paso, Marfa, Del Rio, Laredo, and Rio Grande Valley.

211 Yeah, the GSA does take a lot of the cookie sale miney. I'm if two minds on this, because while it seems outrageous to leave the troop with so little, the quality control and lower price and such means that the cookies sell themselves. Compare that to Boy Scout popcorn. The individual boy scout pack keeps more of the money but it's so much harder to sell, because it's over priced and the selection and the quality varies wildly fron year to year. So in my experience (I have two boys who did three years in cub scouts and two girls in daisies) the boy scouts end up working way harder for less money.

222 Personally I think screwing with the border patrol is retarded. Cute videos, I doubt it always ends like that. And the 4th amendment is open to interpretation. The point is to protect a "reasonable" expectation to privacy. Border patrol agents asking if you're an American citizen or not, I'm sorry, but that isn't an infringement to me. Big deal. If the police are looking for someone they have a right to detain you and determine who you are. The border patrol is on a constant hunt for illegal aliens. I have no issue with them ascertaining the citizenship of people traveling on the highway.

Now if they asked to search my vehicle I would politely tell them no. For something like that I would demand probable cause and/or a warrant. Me simply travelling down the road isn't cause enough.

And the video where the truck driver was crossing a state line. If it had been state authorities checking for fruit I would have had no issue. Federal agents have no authority however to forcibly search people's vehicles simply because they cross into a different state. That does cross the line and I would have given that guy a hard time too.

The funny thing too is look how the authorities react though. They don't forcibly search the vehicle anyway, they are befuddled by the questions. "what is your probable cause" ... "do you have a warrant"... they can't and won't answer yes, so it just turns into this silly exchange and goes nowhere. This in of itself seems pretty good evidence that what they're doing isn't constitutional. If it's a lawful search and seizure then they should be able to bust out line and verse the law that gives them the authority to do so.

226 A lot of vehicle electrical problems are caused by bad grounds.

It didn't matter so much in the days of brute force spark coil/distributor with no electronics except a radio.

Start piling on delicate instruments and silicon substrates and the dinosaur chassis ground system in cars will screw things up ricky tick.

They can be impossible to find except by accident. Could be just a little corrosion under a contacting surface is enough to change the voltage so that a sensor somewhere doesn't work properly.

It's just being cheap. And rightly so. To wire a vehicle with plus and minus supply and return lines would add at least a grand to the base cost plus would increase the weight and bulk of all the wiring harnesses and the space required would change the dimensions of the vehicle more than you'd think.

It's 21st century tech stacked on 20th century design and 19th century tech.

Dimming lights, poor starts, lights that won't go on, lights that won't go off, misfires and erratic fault codes.

Wheeee. It's a wonder we get where we're going.

They initially sold the idea to the public by saying the proceeds would benefit the schools and then gave as little as was mandated and started forming its own little bureaucracy complete with television shows like Ohio's "Cash Explosion". So the whole fucking thing is based on a lie from the beginning.

There's a good discussion to be had on how schools should be funded since relying on property taxes is some dogshit 18th century concept where only property owners could vote. The pols have been extremely gutless in fixing that into being a user's fee with support for those less able to pay.

Mostly agreed. I still don't like the idea of arbitrary stops inside the US. At the border, sure. But I think we should be unmolested by police whenever possible.Lastly, DHS can sod off in general. The US was more free and safer without them, aside from the general info sharing they do between agencies.

Your post got me to look that up. What a huge steaming pile that is. I've defended McConnell before but not after an abrogation of responsibility that the article indicated. I'm just stunned by that.

234 On our way back from a vacay to South Padre Island several years back, we came to one of those checkpoints. The Man looked into the pickup, saw my four blonde haired, blue eyed kids, looked at me (same), smiled and said, "Have a nice day, sir." and waved us on.

Understandable, a loaded gun. But unless you buckle the dog, better not drive with the gun not secured, and not on "safety".

239 ABC is defending its decision to edit out an apparently erroneous claim by Michelle Obama in its broadcast of the first lady’s interview on Good Morning America today, saying it made the changes “solely” for the sake of time.

As The Washington Examiner reported this morning, the first lady claimed during an interview with Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts that 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton, who was killed in Chicago shortly after performing during the President’s Inauguration, was shot because “some kids had some automatic weapons they didn’t need.”

In fact, Chicago Police reported Pendleton was shot by a man who “opened fire with a handgun before fleeing in a waiting car,” according to the Associated Press.

242 The conservatives in Canada managed to win the immigrant vote. So, if you believe that we cannot do so in America, you are logically implying that Canadians are better than us.

245 I'm gonna play devils advocate on this one. Most Jr. Highs have dress codes that don't allow any sort of writing on shirts or pants other than manufacturers labels. This could have been the issue.

Never hurts to read the article before commenting. The school admininstration/principal says the teacher was plainly wrong.
