List of Shame: Republicans Who Voted to Confirm Plainly-Unqualified Man to Lead the Defense Department

Via Allah. Remember them, and call them out as liars when they claimed they voted "against" Hagel. They did not.

Alexander
Ayotte
Blunt
Burr
Chambliss
Coburn
Collins
Corker
Flake
Graham
Hatch
McCain
Murkowski
Sessions
Thune

Now that's the list of people who voted "Yes" on cloture (guaranteeing Hagel's confirmation) but then cast a covering, false vote on the nomination itself (a meaningless gesture made for political purposes).

Interestingly, some people voted the other way around -- voting "No" on cloture but then "Yes" on the nomination itself.

Among them? Rand Paul, who's attempting to both be a Mainstream Conservative and also play to his father's supporters with their, um... views on Israel.

That way, they wouldn't have undermined the entire Defense Department by revealing him to be a clueless dolt, nor would they have stirred up more trouble in the Middle East with revealing his opposition to Israel.

So what did we get out of this. NOTHING except a worse situation.

As I said, if they weren't going to actively oppose him, they should have just given him a cursory questioning and sent him for the vote.

I am just surprised that Paul voted for the nomination. That's kind of strange. Let's not get too out of whack here, LIB, the world is ending, etc. At least from my perspective we already have a traitor in charge of the military.

On the one hand I want everyone who loves liberty, freedom and limited governmentin the military to immediately resign and return home..... f*ck it. No honorable person can feel proud of serving under a Marxist.
On the other hand, I have a sneaking suspicion that we will need people of good character and conduct in the military who will know not to accept orders to fire on American citizens here at home and to instead fire upon those who would give unlawful orders..... when the dems eventually enact martial law.
Which will happen after the finacial collapse that is coming..... the precise year is yet to be determined.... but, we are on the road to financial ruin at a breakneck pace...

God bless the men and women of the armed forces.

209 Nevermind RE the list. (That is what I get for only scanning the post.) Eighteen senators voted to invoke cloture with four Republicans voting to confirm. Of the four, only one (Sen. Paul) had not voted to invoke cloture.

210 Can we at least agree that the system of checks and balances the Republics Founders envisioned, are not operational?

That this IDIOT would get confirmed by the Senate floors me...

Oh.... and did you know we just Majorly pissed off India??? This guy said THEY were complicit in terrorism.... not Pakistan....

214 #210 Not only did Kerry piss off India, he also insulted Britain by not backing them on the Falklands. Right there in front of William Hague at a press conference, embarrassing him and insulting the entire country.

He is a complete disaster, and probably Hagel will be even worse.

236 The Republican Party is dead, and they don't even know it yet.

But when the Democrats take back the House and gain a filibuster-proof majority in 2014, I'm sure they'll realize the error of their ways and propose instant citizenship for illegals, complete gun confiscation, and a 70% top tax rate.

Because Big Tent You Guys!

237 Did ANY Dumbocrats NOT vote for HAGEL? If so, we should be honoring them. If not, then shame on the whole rotten bad apple tote of them. Do they not CARE that the BLESSED LIGHT of our world, BARACCKKK OBAMMAAAAA has foundered on the ROCKS of his IGNORANCE and ARROGANCE? Do they NOT SEE that, by standing by, hoping that Republicans would rescue the foul stinking lot of them, by ducking his WRATH, by toeing HIS line, they in fact have dealt both HIM and THEMSELVES a grievous WOUND which will continue to BLEED and to HAUNT them to the end of their DAYS?

I guarantee it. I'm going to do whatever I can to make it so, in fact.

Here's the thing:

Any Democrat who voted for Hagel can never again say that they stand with Israel. Throw this in their faces as evidence they don't.

Any Democrat who voted for Hagel can never again say they support our troops. This is clear evidence they don't.

Any Democrat who voted for Hagel, when they claim they care about the victims of terror, this is proof they do not.

Any Democrat who voted for Hagel, when they claim they reach across the aisle to Republicans, this is proof they are not sincere.

The list goes on and on.

Posted by: starboardhelm at February 26, 2013 09:19 PM (hHgxI)

238 I dunno if its shameful, because there is a philosophy that the president should get the people he wants to work for him. Grill the person sure, but allow them to be voted on by the body. So, voting yes on cloture on then no inn the main vote makes sense.

I mean, do we really want to keep the Borking?

Posted by: sexypig at February 26, 2013 09:27 PM (dZQh7)

239 Good thing that Romney guy never got in he would be all conservative all over the place. Even mushy conservative is better then Marxist in chief but elections have consequences. Well Sec Def Hegal is a consequence.

Posted by: Trevor (@tjexcite) at February 26, 2013 09:28 PM (Ea64Y)

240 By the way, I think Republicans were right in the long run to step out of the way and let Hagel through. I bet Obama and a lot of Dens were hoping they would hold him up for them. That may have been the whole point of nominating Hagel. He was a chew-toy for the Republican wolves, while Obama Company try to sneak Brennan and Benghazi past their noses. Hagel is now pretty well chewed up, and Obama has to live with his decision. Meanwhile, the wolves are un-blooded.

Posted by: starboardhelm at February 26, 2013 09:28 PM (hHgxI)

241 Also, the Pentagon can survive a Hagel. It will be an educational moment for the country.

Posted by: sexypig at February 26, 2013 09:29 PM (dZQh7)

242 I agree, sexypig, I just think there is an opportunity to drive a wedge between Obama and some Democrats, and I mean to pound on it till it's splits them wide open. Any mistake this cretin makes, and he'll make plenty, should be laid at their door.

Posted by: starboardhelm at February 26, 2013 09:32 PM (hHgxI)

243 You know why I left the GOP?

Other Republicans. Not all, just most.

Posted by: nip at February 26, 2013 09:35 PM (11Tdq)

244 In other words, time to stop blaming Republicans for something they would have rather stopped, but didn't, and start blaming LOUDLY the shitz who really made it happen. Democrats own it.

255 These doofuses (doofi?) could have held the line and delivered a defeat to Obama that he richly deserves and a morale boost the Republicans and conservatives. They don't seem to get that Obama is out to destroy Congressional Republicans. Defeating him outright is the only way to stop him. It doesn't matter what the issue is. Just refuse to give him what he wants.
