Give us all the money we want, or we'll stop inspecting chickens for salmonela. Senator Coburn has some ideas for reducing spending. Perhaps these unnecessary new hires could be cancelled in lieu of reducing anti-terrorism efforts.

I found it very interesting that there was a New York Times reporter on Bret's panel tonight.1. He pointed out that the news cycle is turning towards the GOP, because instead of the preferred subjects of Obama (and most of the press) , immigration and abortion and such, the cycle is going to be about budget and jobs, a GOP subject.2. He also said that the $500,000 donors getting quarterly meetings with the president could be a Lincoln Bedroom issue for the GOP against Obama.Now, why did the NYT allow a reporter on Fox? That is weird in and of itself. And he was quietly critical of Obama and not crazy in suppoting him, as leftists usually are.So, perhaps things are changing. Maybe someone on the NYT has discovered something which makes them want Obama out. Perhaps that is my hopeful thinking, but it was very strange to see that guy there.

That is interesting. I haven't watched Fox since the election, but I don't remember seeing anyone from the NYT there since O's first election. Given how afraid the MSM is to offend O, this is a good sign. Maybe, just maybe, they've finally figured out O isn't giving them any access anyway, so what are they really losing?
Until I see a lot more like this I won't get my hopes up though. The MSM voluntarily surrendered all credibility, so even if they come around, I will never trust them.

I started doing this when I was a kid. I have a large vocabulary and have always been fascinated by the different meanings for the same word.
I came to realize that, depending on the circumstances and conditions, the same sentence can mean entirely different things. Or mean something other than what it appeared to mean.

OK, check ball joints, front end alignment but first the cheap fix. New front brake rotors. When you go down hill it thows all the braking to the front. If you have a warped break rotor you will feel it in the steering wheel, it will also try to pull to one side or the other.

Without actually seeing it I would be clueless. Front end geometry is a tricky thing and should only be attempted by pros. However, if it's only happening under braking, that's usually brakes.

Excuse the O/T, but I have an email etiquette question. I still consider
exclamation points in an email to be akin to yelling to emphasize a
point and consider exclamation points rude in office type emails.

A lot of people use exclamation points to convey friendliness or excitement, not necessarily yelling. I think women tend to use them more than men. Too many looks childish IMO, so I try to limit myself to no more than one ! per email.
(I have a bad parenthesis habit though, so I might not be the best source for email etiquette.)

Step 2 - blame the republican house, which will have acted repeatedly to diffuse the crisis and actually lead to a 5 year overdue economic recovery; mischaracterize or flat out lie about the steps the house proposes or passes; instruct Hairy Reed to do nothing...above all, don't pick up the phone and work on compromises with the House or areas of shared agreement. Instead, pontificate and demand, and reward loyal DMM reporters with exclusives provided they stick to the blame the R message and don't ask about inconvenient things, like 20% unemployment or gas / food prices...
Step 3 - tell the DMM to ignore Hairy Reed's fecklessness and abandonment of the Senate's constitutional role. Feed the DMM talking points blaming everything on the Rs - if they don't 'compromise' precisely as Oblamer demands, then they are responsible for the catalogue of horrors Oblamer describes...
Step 4 - when it all blows up, have slow Joe ride to the rescue with a plan that is greatly inferior to what could have been achieved if he's bargained in good faith and over areas of shared agreement, but which nonetheless serves to set up the next crisis...play golf, hang out with celebs on the public dime, and reward loyal DMM reporters if they fellate well enough...

If we ever go to war again I am going to punch in the face any of those people who whine about being caring about the opposition.
In my opinion, the next American president should announce in his inaugural address that ANY attack will be met with force and fury. Complete annihilation will be their fate. No quarter.
And any whiners in the US will be met with complete scorn and will be ignored.

Yep, that's the problem. The federal government daily seems to act as if it no longer recognizes the Constitution as a legitimate governing document.
Of course, that document is the sole source of the legitimacy of the federal government.

there is no way in today's culture to recreate the conditions in 1787 that produced our Constitution of today. we don't have the statesmen of that caliber, and we don't have a media that would respect the blackout necessary to have such deliberations.
We either have (a) our current constitution, or (b) some new one that is created as a result of war, not out of some convention.

Now, why did the NYT allow a reporter on Fox? That is weird in and of
itself. And he was quietly critical of Obama and not crazy in suppoting
him, as leftists usually are.So, perhaps things are changing. Maybe
someone on the NYT has discovered something which makes them want Obama
out. Perhaps that is my hopeful thinking, but it was very strange to see
that guy there.

watched Fox since the election, but I don't remember seeing anyone from
the NYT there since O's first election. Given how afraid the MSM is to
offend O, this is a good sign. Maybe, just maybe, they've finally
figured out O isn't giving them any access anyway, so what are they
really losing?

He's always been pretty much in the middle-if-the-road in his comments,
iow he's not your typical NYT "journalist".

Probably a dead thread, just came to comment on the revolver, and lo and behold the last comment is on that subject.
Don't know, but looks like a 2.5-inch Model 66 to me. It really does. Also, as I just passed on one for sale here locally, and a snub K-frame has been the only gun on my list for some time, perhaps I'm seeing things ..... Model 19 would of course be the blued version. I really prefer one of those in the snub, but alas in idiotic CA all SW revolvers of yore are hard to come by, can't be bought out of state, etc.
Back on topic - the "Washington Monument strategy", as this ridiculous hostage-taking tactic was known back in ancient times when I worked on the Hill and saw budget show-downs up close, is a fitting tribute to the idiocy and degradation of America today. That anything like this can be taken seriously, at any level, notwithstanding histrionic press distortion, is an irredeemable condemnation of the collapse of our civic culture.
Still recall how much I loved the two (?) short "layoffs" in 1994 (?) resulting from the Newt/Clintidiot showdown. The lifers at my agency were apoplectic, of course. Imagine a week or two of your career off, time to clean out the garage, sleep in, etc. They were besides themselves. I went to the gym, shopped for hockey equipment, read, and enjoyed myself. Kinda says it all about the majority of folks currently drawn to federal employment, at least on the extremely non-essential civilian side (though we were in the foreign policy side of things).

Since Americans aren't as smart as career politicians we demand 3 term limits for all and no retirement just put these corrupt self interest politicians in the Social Security systems and make them live like every one else and wonder where their next meal comes from or can make a house payment.
