Bob Menendez: All These Allegations About Me Are Just Discrimination Against Hispanics

I wasn't sure until he played the Race Card. Now I know for certain.

At a Black History Month event held at a Trenton, N.J. church on Sunday, Democratic Senator Bob Menendez blamed conservatives for his ethics scandals, framing them as a racial attack on him because of his Hispanic heritage. “I have felt the sting of discrimination,” he told approximately 300 worshipers, according to the Bergen Record. ”It has never been easy.”
“Now we face anonymous, faceless, nameless individuals from right-wing sources seeking to destroy a lifetime of work,” Menendez said at Shiloh Baptist Church.

At the end he quoted Martin Luther King Jr.'s aphorism "the arc of history tends towards justice" and said he expected he'd get justice himself.

This whole "Hispanic" crap is about as artificial as that "Cherokee" hag from Massachusetts.

The federal Department for Racial Purity is in knots trying to figure this out. It is generally held that if you have a Spanish surname, you are of the mystical Hispanic "race." Never mind if you are as white as Caspar the friendly ghost and can't speak a word of Spanish. Never mind if the only reason you have that name is because your great-great-grandfather (and no one else in your family tree) was "Hispanic." You are an oppressed person of color!

Then you have all the ones like my kids who have an English surname but can claim to be Hispanic because their mother is. Of course, she herself may be only 1/32 Hispanic, but what the hell.

The "Latino" designation is even funnier because you end up with people like Giselle Bunchen qualifying as OPCs. (Oppressed Persons of Color.) But the original Latinos, the Italians, are HOs (Hegemonic Oppressors.)

And we all know what hilarity ensues when someone who actually DOES have significant non-European roots has the last name of Zimmerman.

Yes. Today you do have to have a reason for the change beyond getting AA benefits but, in many jurisdictions, the rules are lax. (The fewer the actual Hispanics in an area, the looser the rules are.)
Your reason does not have to have anything to do with heritage, say discovering a distant ancestor.
