7 From the folks who linked hand-guns and unemployment, comes ...

Washington, D.C. — Please join the Center for American Progress, the Center for Climate Security, and the Stimson Center on Thursday, February 28, for the release of a new volume on “Climate Change and the Arab Spring.” Panelists Tom Friedman, Anne-Marie Slaughter, and Michael Werz will parse out these complex interactions and discuss the implications for U.S. foreign and development policy.

The volume outlines the complex pressures exerted by the effects of climate change on the convulsions which swept through the Middle East in 2010 and 2011, exploring the long-term trends in precipitation, agriculture, food prices, and migration which contributed to the social instability and violence which has transformed the region, and offering solutions for progress.

52 Last month, the Senate Budget Committee reports that in fiscal year 2011, between food stamps, housing support, child care, Medicaid and other benefits, the average U.S. household below the poverty line received $168.00 a day in government support. What’s the problem with that much support? Well, the median household income in America is just over $50,000, which averages out to $137.13 a day.

To put it another way, being on welfare now pays the equivalent of $30.00 an hour for a 40-hour week, while the average job pays $25.00 an hour.

Depending on what other conditions the 50 year old grandma has and the odds of success in giving her a new heart are, she should get the procedure. If she's 85 and her liver is wasted too, no way.

However, anyone who wants to spend their own money on any procedure is more than welcome to do it.

As far as the handicapped and mentally challenged, until these life and death decisions can be left totally in my hands, it would be impossible to get every decision right.
