I've got a computer controlled milling machine. I could probably machine any sort of magazine I wanted with it, though most of them are just bent metal, which is much more economical to manufacture.
I've been noticing some people have been fabing AR15 magazines out of three dimensional printers. That's probably the easier way to go for small quantities.

Short answer: no one in his right mind does anything of the kind. I'm sure they tried reasoning with the raccoons, and even coexisting with them, but it didn't work out.
The funny part was we found this out when we were at their house and they beamingly told us to come watch something really cute. They started feeding them, and about 30 raccoons (I'm not exaggerating) began showing up and getting more and more bold (although none asked for "free pho's," so there's that) as the guy fed them ... by hand.
He then asked if our kids (then6 and 2) would like to feed them by hand. (True story.) I looked at him as though he were crazy, which I think he was. Dude, you're not in a Disney movie, OK? These are wild fucking animals. Look up the word "wild" if necessary.

Like 1 out of 4 HH flavors are actually really well done and tasty.

I spent too much of my life learning destruction and never got to be more than a good spare set of hands for construction. You get inspired to do some analysis and get a price tag you let me know we can get a study going I think.
The machining tutor/old school production method on period piece mags may be useful laying the groundwork if we ever got the certs and license to produce genuine Class III kit.
After the dust settles from this next move I can probably kick in money...God willing we make it to retirement and decide on our next home I was serious about wanting to craft an interlocking diversified conglomerate.
By God we are the fucking economy and our willingness to work, and adapt is a national resource.
Anyway there *is* a market for C+R mags IMHO....

As I mentioned, people are already using the 3D printers for this. There is a youtube video showing a guy firing an AR15 while using a 3D printed magazine. I think they claim to have fired 300+ rounds with it and no malfunctions.

Most of them also employ people who are not the most fastidious, and most people think everyone is a fad follower and ignore that this can do shit like make me spend all night in the bathroom or cause internal bleeding.
So, yeah, restaurants are out. And people don't invite you anyway because they're more afraid of you not eating with them than they are of making you sick. People get *really* offended, and it's not like I can do anything about it.

The Fed cannot raise interest rates. If they do, they fuck the federal government. They are the only reason we've been able to get away with running $1T+ deficits for the last 5 years. Without their massive prin-- uh, quantitative easing, interest rates would've shot through the roof, "bondzilla" telling Uncle Sam he was borrowing too much. But the Fed comes in and saves the day.

In short, if Helicopter and the boys try to tighten, they immediately fuck us, fiscally and monetarily. The only hope is to keep going and hope inflation doesn't get out of hand. But it will will. We're fucked either way, mind you.

The scanning machine is expensive but you only have to do it relatively few times and can rent access.
The old machines were cruder but more robust, it was almost all stamped steel and springs.
Springmaking can be learned and contracted out once you get specs down.
A big problem is you don't just need sizes of parts, you need fitment and to test it with the guns. That's more money. You could start with rare magazines and work your way up as you make money.
I suggest "robust" plastic designs (easier for rifles) on 3-D printers because the initial investment is smaller.
Also the DP-51 is a modified S&W clone, not a hi-power clone. It's a modified double-action and not single action like an HP. It uses Browning locking but like half of guns do.

Well, it's my Sister and BIL. He is English and she now had dual citizenship/ They love the US-he more so than she does actually -and have been to every state in the US. (I haven't). they love Maine and are building a beautiful house on the top of some mountain. It's a lovely house in a lovely part of maine.. When people love something you can't talk them out of it.
I pray for them too. She's an Agnostic and I think he has some sort of rudimentary belief in God but they always like to go to church when they;rehere at Christmas.
They're good people are upset by the fact that in some places in England you can't even be comfortable walking there if you're not in Muslim garb and particularly if you're a woman. They know that England will be completely taken over by Muslims soon. Please don;t get me wrong. I know there are some very fine Muslims, but English culture will just disappear if that's the case

My plan, so far, is to accumulate as much assets and commodities as I can manage, and attempt to maintain as many viable ways of being useful in a community after an economic collapse.
I am currently trying to get my natural gas pump station on line, and after that I intend to turn to doing conversions. If money goes worthless, the local community is still going to need means of fueling their equipment and vehicles.
I've been working to be a sort of "tech" center for a long while, with an eye towards invention and manufacturing. I've got some pretty cool shit.

I still use those mags at the range in my 1990's Colt Govt. model.

As an expert in these affairs I can tell you it is easy to make springs.
Get untempered spring steel at McMaster Carr online and cut to width and length, bend to shape. Put the spring on an 3/8" aluminum plate, raised up on bricks high enough to get a flame under and big enough to accommodate the spring by half again, heat plate from underneath with a propane torch. Keep torch moving. When the correct temp is reached you can watch as the heat runs up the spring stock by watching the color change. When the color gets to the top of the spring you're done, remove from the plate and let cool.

I've made springs, but they're not as good as "the real spring," they were temporary, out of special wire and spring steal for leafs.

I saw at a big medical trade show, a company that did 3d printing to visualize patient anatomy to help guide surgeons and stuff. The source data was a volume of medical CT images, which they then processed into a CAD file. So essentially anything you can CT scan can be set up for solid printing.

The only metal fabbers of which I have heard are sintered. Not the sort of thing to make something that needs to be robust. I was thinking more along the lines of something that prints by welding thin continuous lines of brass.
Steel would be harder, but I can see a device working with this material as well.

You can buy the wire or sheet for making springs from McMaster-Carr, and form the parts cold, by bending or winding. Then you heat it up, quench in oil, and wa-lah it's all springy.

An idea of which I conceived quite some time ago is this:
If you see a run on the stores, grab all the mouthwash you can get. Cases if possible. The stuff contains mostly ethyl alcohol, and is fit for human consumption. Distill it out of the other crap, and you have drinkable alcohol. (though not of particularly good quality.)
It has the advantage of getting past the revenuers alcohol tax because it was never intended to be used in that manner. It's cheaper than actual retail liquor.
When you need to trade something, this will make decent trading material.

grind 2 cups of oatmeal to 'flour' in a blender or coffee grinder
2 cups plain oatmeal.
3 eggs, 1/3 to 1/2 cup oil
2 tablespoons baking powder
2 teaspoons vanilla
3-4 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt.
optional 1 banana diced
milk or water to get batter consistency. --1.5 -2+ cups (I use water or just a little half and half and then water cuz I don't milk so I don't buy it)
You'll have to add more liquid each morning to get the batter pourable.
usually takes 6 minutes in my cheapy target waffle iron.

If you see a run on the stores, grab all the mouthwash you can get. Cases if possible. The stuff contains mostly ethyl alcohol, and is fit for human consumption. Distill it out of the other crap, and you have drinkable alcohol. (though not of particularly good quality.)
It has the advantage of getting past the revenuers alcohol tax because it was never intended to be used in that manner. It's cheaper than actual retail liquor.
When you need to trade something, this will make decent trading material.

umm, distilling mouthwash will make it more concentrated but it will also leave behind a lot of the active ingredients in mouthwash that really shouldn't be consumed in high doses, like the antibiotics and whatnot.
distilling mouthwash is a really crappy way to get a buzz. and it's not likely to be worth a whole lot anyway.

and stuff. The source data was a volume of medical CT images, which

from McMaster-Carr, and form the parts cold, by bending or winding.
Then you heat it up, quench in oil, and wa-lah it's all springy.

Yes eventually you will be able to buy ammo again, the ammo manufacturers are in the interesting position of either buying more equipment and hiring more people to meet a demand that might not be sustained or not be able to meet the market demands. Right now there's a lot of panic buying, will it last? Time will tell, the ammo manufacturers will either take a chance to make a capital investment to be able to ramp up production or they will not, there's a lot of variables in doing it.

I can remember reading when i first came online politically The dems/left were terrified when i read their old posts. of Bush administration and (whatever war etc)and what He was doing, how far he would go, Civil Rights OMG!. And the distrust of the media, was right There for them.
now everything the media says is shiny for their team spirit, so they don't look twice at what they are being feed.
they just swallow.

I did it once to make a flat spring from 1074 steel sheet. I just heated it up to a dull red in my woodstove, but I've read that the temp should be about 1500F.

Not sure, but that may be from moisture. I've got ammo that old, no problem, but I kept it in an air conditioned house. But I had my guns in a safe in the workroom in the garage that got a little moisture underneath, and the brass rivets in my leather holsters got the green slime like that. But the guns showed no sign of corrosion, so I don't know.

A hundred years from now, when the history of this time is written (and who will be writing that history is a good question), it can be told in a nice narrative, and there will be some point where you can say, "Here, the final collapse started". But those of us living through it won't know.
Conside the history of the Great Depression and WWII. Did any of those living at the time know when all the turning points and points of no return were reached? No. Same with us now.

Now some folks are perfectly comfortable with using .22WMR in Mauser actioned bolt guns but I would NOT do so for 2 reasons....
1) the dimensions of the cases ARE different
2) why? I mean really why risk it based on pressure tolerances and such...the performance gain is there but if you are in an application needing the .22WMR bite the bullet and go .22 hornet or .222/.223 IMHO....
check out the SAAMI pressure and follow your bore instructions and if a new bore is on an old action your receiver instructions IMHO....
the most common current .22WMR application is in Lever guns and the PMR-30 from kel tec....

One of the biggest misconceptions people have of these things is that the day of the collapse is the thing. So they ask "What might we have done differently that day or the day before to avoid it?"
The truth is that the ramp of the market/economy on margin is what made the collapse possible. So if you're looking for a general cause, check when it became easier to "invest" with borrowed money and see which of those changes was made most irresponsibly. For the coming crash, you might look at the Kanjorsky hearing after which "Mark to Market" accounting rules got tossed. But that was done to arrest a collapse in progress-i.e. maintain a previous false status quo, so you can argue the cause for what's coming was earlier.
Of course if you think about our monetary system, not from the "Fed is a false idol, hence evil" angle, but just a matter of how exponents work, you'd realize that a system based on loaning money into existence must either have fairly frequent bankruptcies of the primary dealers (those who get money directly from the Fed) or it must ultimately collapse into a singularity with no money in existence and the Fed claiming a right to collateral of some kind.

if you see this. Don't feel bad, I'm not in the loop enough either. When they start referring to old conversations and their site-specific jargon, and especially during discussions on all the different types of weapons- I wish I had a manual at times to intepret at times. I'm used to putting meanings together from the context, but the conversation are flying by with too many unfamiliar references, and I feel silly asking too.
