White House: We Have Some Pretty Good Reasons For Refusing Further Memos on Drone Strikes

Of course, to protect the big secret -- that there are some government-to-government "protocols" on this (that is, agreements), including with Pakistan -- they reveal the big secret to the press.

I'm sure no one in Pakistan reads any American media.

73 The real fun part???

Hitting a named target is either assasination, or must be a death penalty...

Assasination by uniformed Combatants is against both the Geneva convention, and UCMJ.

Killing UNARMED combatants is agains the UCMJ. Killing Non Uniformed Combatants, taken under arms, IS OK under both Geneva and UCMJ... but they need to be 'under arms', or it is considered a Civilian LEGAL matter.

Taking the order to Kill from someone OUTSIDE your direct miltary Chain of Command is both agains the UCMJ, and Geneva Conventions.

Even the President cannot order an Assasination under the UCMJ... which is why the CIA does not have Military ranks, unlike just about every other spy agency in the world.

So these Memos? Have to be full of holes if the drones are being used, to hit named targets, of non uniformed, UNARMED, people.

I oppose not creating a legal framework, with adequate protections, to use these weapons...

Under the Geneva Convention, Military Drone Operators could be accused of War Crimes, ie, assasination, for hitting Non Uniformed Targets not under Arms, in a Country we are not at War with... and under the Nuremberg precedent, following an order is not a defense.

Posted by: JDP at February 22, 2013 06:19 PM (60GaT)

87 #84 Rome13, I am wondering about those former SEALS who are saying that there is a "secret war" going on in Libya and other parts of North Africa.

The inference was that the orders came from the White House and bypassed the chain of command. So who gave those orders? Either it was that nutball Brennan acting on his own, in which case he should be fired and in jail, or it was Obama, in which case there should be a congressional inquiry to see what the hell is going on.

The rumors of Obama getting his jollies watching drone strikes indicates to me that he is in on it, but he is so clueless it could be that Brennan is giving the orders and then calling him in to watch the strikes, as a way to curry favor and get his nomination as CIA director.

However, some of this could be my paranoia, as I am convinced all of them are evil, and there might be a logical explanation for all of this. I can't think of one, but I am willing to listen if anyone has one.

The WOT declaration is very questionable under Geneva, because it allows us to hit 'any group' the President decides is allied with Al Qaeda... so we are using it all over the world.... in NEUTRAL countries, without declaring War on that country... and using it as justification to hit Non Uniformed, sometimes unarmed people, with Military Units.

It also does not absolve our Military from following either the Geneva Convention, OR the UCMJ.

105 104 JDP,

right...like i said remember when Chimpy's war was 'illegal?'

Giggles is empowering and arming the worst actors in these shitholes who then promptly after killing/removing the domesticated shithead sheperds start persecuting religious minorities....

Giggles calls their goat jism swilling 5 time a day warbling the "prettiest sound" on Earth

yeah I'm sure he is simultaneously the most naive man in power ever and the 'greatest mind ever to be in the oval orifice...."

the dumbfuck GOP not putting Barack's shit back up his ass does not mean that I am required to be a pussy ass motherfucker Pander Bear along with them

107 OK sven but why is there this mentality. do both parties just enjoy screwing over non-Muslims in these areas or have they bought into the whole "we can't support dictators, it makes us look bad" mindset

that's an attitude i got no prob critiquing

Posted by: JDP at February 22, 2013 06:53 PM (60GaT)

108 107 JDP,

the GOP is a retarded battered wife....

W for all his faults housebroke Mummer Q pretty well and Mubarak was the closest thing we've had to a sane strongman ever in the region since Sadat.

Barky works for the other team and unless I miss my guess is enforcing preference cascades with illegal, undeclared, unresolution of forced, unauthorized by the UN, approved by Fwance and King Fahd only required raids and support missions in dial a shithole...

fuck I wouldn't be shocked if he overtly used force to decide kenya's next election cycle....

we're not gonna get back our moral clarity until we have a sunny day at 2AM in some US town.

Forgive me if that pisses me off.

Yeah... right after 9-11, the world once more feared America... and many came to heal.... for about 10 minutes...

The world KNOWS that if we get really pissed??? well... we are still the only country who has used Nukes in anger... and we did it TWICE...

But then the Media, and Gov, decided that THEY were scared of our anger... and did their best to 'calm' us.... remember the agreement NOT to show 9-11 footage after awhile?

And most of America.... went back to bitching about Britney Spears.... while our Military waged war all by itself...

Morsi's gonna help broker an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal with Hagel, just you watch.

111 110 JDP,

You and I had a bit of aggro earlier and I am not nutriding you personally I assure you if you are sincerely arguing Obama is being smart I'm game to listen and whatnot and if you are sincere in needing desperately to think/hope the best for our leader "because" I am earnest in saying I am not mocking you personally....

Islam is happily at war with Xianity, Judaism, and Secular Humanism....

and we're sitting the game out too often...hell I'd settle for Barry simply looking the other way if we Christians decided to arm our brothers and sisters under siege in Somalia, Kenya, Mali, Egypt, and Libya while sending volunteers to teach them tactics....

but again my analysis is that here in 'real world"

1) Xianity has been cowed to not help

2) our govt has either been bought or gone Ghimmi Carter and knowingly runs interference for Jihadi Jim

3) nobody gives a fuck so long as the murdered folks are brown skinned Xians or non Secular jews...

i generally don't view our leaders as malignant, although sometimes in the end result it may not make a difference. i don't think Hagel has it out for Jews for instance, i just think he buys into a particularly naive form of diplomacy.

i get being pissed -- i had post-election shock because i thought it would be closer whichever way -- but, i think it's more helpful to analyze flaws in particular worldviews and making that case, as opposed to chalking things up to conspiracy and mala fides, except in the rare cases where that's obviously true. i mean both liberals and neoconservatives have bought into the "democracy good" ideology (not to paint everyone with a broad brush, but the general sentiment is there) and i'm not inclined to think they're lying

114 113 JDP,

the democrats have had a habit of blowing evil since at least 1860 IMHO.

Suha Arafat must have had a magic pussy because it motivated the donks to throw Israel to the wolves and the democrat response to Weaponized islam is either the supine butt thrust or a hellfire rocket and a prayer.

115 Consider the other Hot Air link about the Egyptian Jihad turned AQ leader, Abu Ahmed, letters recovered after his detention, show his working on projects in SubSaharan Africa, including Mali, this was back in 2011.
