True But False: Chuck Todd Says "It's Dumb" to Say Obama Proposed the Sequester, Just Because

He did propose the sequester.

So why is it "dumb" to say so?

Because Obama's political strategy relies, as usual, upon suppression of the truth.

And that's about it.

Sorry I am sneezing fit sick. It's like a bee done crawled up my nostril and stung my tissues.

I'm also having an interesting (I think) back and forth with John Hayward on Downton Abbey, Why Do Conservatives Like It?, at the Conversation.

I reject the premise because I don't watch the show and I don't respect anyone who does.

No, but seriously, I reject the premise because I don't like this business of Ideology First all the time.

12 President Obama -

At the time I proposed the idea of the sequester, it was an idea, a way to bridge the chasm that the Republicans had dug so that they could drive the car into the ditch.

Now, with the car stuck in the ditch, the Republicans have taken a mere idea and turned that idea into a blood-thirsty monster that wants to drink the marrow from your bones while you're still screaming.

Republicans. Marrow Sucking. Sequester. Them.

God Bless the USA.

43 I might be stoopid, but my take on Obama proposing the sequester was that it was his IOU to taxpayers. That, in exchange for soaking the rich, for raising the debt ceiling, for slacking off on the budget -- he promised to take a "balanced" approach, to make "responsible" cuts, to cut the deficit in "half". And the sequester was his place-marker for that promise. So now he wants to renege on his IOU? I'm shocked! Shocked!

63 Well considering, no matter how hard he tries to deny it, Obama is an Ideologue in its purest form. So why would you like ideologically driven philosophies? He is just the latest example that Ideologues are the most demonstrably destructive operators because they ignore empirical truths.

Ideology is one of the few reasons a person drives an uninterrupted agenda which is contra-factual. It is unresponsive to intellectual examination and cloaks itself in lies and propaganda until it destroys itself. It ultimately acts against its own existential good.

Love, love, love period pieces, especially BBC ones. They're my favorite type of movies/shows after old black and white ones. I guess I should have been born in another era.

Ignore these outmoded Palace Guard Media fucktards and their failing franchises. Start focusing on strengthening existing conservative news conduits, and creating new ones.

When I was but a wee babe we had one of those really bad winters that required clearing teh snow off the roof. My father climbed up there on his own, neglecting to mention it to my mother. He was doing pretty well, but then he slipped and started to slide off the roof. He managed to grab teh edge and hang there by his fingertips for a while, screaming to my mom for help. Anyway, my mom -- exhausted from wee little me and my two year old sister -- was napping and didn't hear him at first, until his hollers of, 'DAMMIT, I'M GOING TO DIE!" finally broke through and woke her up.

167 That one episode of Downton Abbey where Cotton takes Bobby to the Hotel Arlen because he thinks it's still a whorehouse had me rolling!

168 The BBC produces shit. Dr Who is one of the most
amateurish looking productions in the history of television, rivaling
the Sci-Fi Channel's made for TV movies. There, I said it.

Yeah don't get the Dr Who love . C'mon people it's not 1974 anymore, buy some tech for fuck's sake.

175 I'm with Doc Zero on Downton. I love the show because it demonstrates the difference between repression and restraint. Doing one's duty for family and country is a good thing even if it might inconvenience or constrain us in some ways.

The more we can be trusted to do what is right, the less government intervention is needed and the freer we will remain. Liberals want to destroy moral restraint because they know they can expand the state to deal with the social consequences that will inevitably arise.

176 "...but seriously, I reject the premise because I don't like this business of Ideology First all the time."

Which is why we will never win the Kulturkrieg; because our Opponents invariably put it first, ALL the time. For them, culture is a ratchet that ratchets in one direction only ... and we now all see the yawning abyss to which those "low-information" "I get all my news from Jon Stewart, LOL!"-voters have led our nation.

178 Gristle,

I know you have to be putting us on, but just for those like me who were'nt totally clear, let it be known that theGus head that was blasted in half was from Breaking Bad. Helluva scene.

It's tough waiting for the final eight episodes or so of that awesome series.

179 I stopped watching halfway through the second episode, when I realized I was watching a soap opera.
Daughter of the house is half-raped/seduced by a rich young foreigner who dies of a heart attack in the act? Soap opera.

180 Downton Abbey is based on the Buckaneers, who were rich American heireses (Churchill's mom was one, a Vanderbilt daughter was another) who married land-rich-but-cash poor English nobility. The American girls' dowries and inheritance were used to support their husbands castles and estates, but in exchange, they brought new ideas and American rebelliousness into the British upper class. A very interesting period.

I don't know why conservatives like Downtown Abbey but I like it even
though I've never seen it because a lot of non conservatives like it and
that pisses off the Left.

It pisses off the left because it does not demonize the rich and it makes them look like decent people.

***********

Exactly. So it's not "all Ideology, all the time". I'm thinking Ace hasn't watched it, but "knows" it must be ideological, and THEREFORE he doesn't like it --kinda like what the progs say about how horrible Fox News is, w/o ever watching it.

As for not respecting people who do watch: WTF?

On last night's Person of Interest a character told someone that torture
rarely yields useful information. And then they immediately start
setting up to torture that person because sometimes it does.

Isn't it odd that libs are so unable to learn from the past that hey will positively deny what humans have known forever, namely that if you hurt someone enough in an effort to extract info from him, that many-times-but-not-always you will get the info

And if torture doesn't work, why should simple threats or discomforts work any better?

Posted by: wholelottasplainin' at February 22, 2013 04:33 PM (o6qwg)

186 You don't watch it (DA) and you don't respect anyone who does. Does that mean that there are people whom you don't respect who happen to watch it, or you don't respect them simply for watching it?. If it's the latter isn't that a bit of an overkill?

Don' t be so serious about DA, you guy.

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at February 22, 2013 04:38 PM (PxYrx)

187 All the conservatives who like DA for the "message" are suckers.
The real message of the show is to establish that conservatives irrationally fear change and that when they relinquish their principles they learn how irrational their fear was because there are no negative consequences.
That is the purpose of the American characters on the show - especially the main dude's wife. She is there to midwife the nearly stillborn brit. characters into the modern world with her knowing looks and her cloying “there there, don’t get too worked up about change” attitude. She is annoying as hell.

191 Obama, like all stealth socialists, is living a lie. That requires telling huge numbers of subsidiary lies, both big and small and somewhere in between. Fortunately, living a lie makes telling all those lies so much easier. It becomes an unthinking habit.

Posted by: Esau's Message at February 23, 2013 05:19 PM (6c62F)

192 Bob Woodward's article in WaPo just nailed Obama's hide to the wall. He has the documentation from his interview's with WH staff to prove Obama initiated the sequester: (You've probably already read it, but..)

Bob Woodward : ".. The president and Lew had this wrong. My extensive reporting.. shows that the automatic spending cuts were initiated by the White House and were the brainchild of Lew and White House congressional relations chief Rob Nabors — probably the foremost experts on budget issues in the senior ranks of the federal government.

Obama personally approved of the plan for Lew and Nabors to propose the sequester to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.). They did so at 2:30 p.m. July 27, 2011, according to interviews with two senior White House aides who were directly involved.

Nabors has told others that they checked with the president before going to see Reid. A mandatory sequester was the only action-forcing mechanism they could devise. Nabors has said, “We didn’t actually think it would be that hard to convince them” — Reid and the Republicans — to adopt the sequester. “It really was the only thing we had. There was not a lot of other options left on the table.”
