RE: Companies Dump Spouses From Coverage

The news can be upsetting to couples when one partner is forced to pay more for coverage or accept lesser benefits: One spouse may even have to stop seeing the family doctor if his or her new plan stipulates a different set of providers. “I think that’s where the pain point comes in for the employee—that their spouse may have to be covered under a different plan, or their benefits might be reduced,” Fischer says.

Couples then have to decide whether to stick together, even if it means losing benefits, or to split up so at least one spouse maintains coverage. If they separate, they may also have to choose which plan to insure the kids under, or whether to use different plans for each. “It certainly makes the family unit have to do some real soul-searching and figure out what works best for them,”

16 That story about Galloway, the British MP, is sickening. What a horrible, evil-hearted little man.

A brief excerpt:

British MP George Galloway quit a debate on Israel at Oxford University Wednesday after discovering that his opponent was an Israeli citizen. The Respect party legislator, who is renowned for being staunchly pro-Palestinian, stormed out of the building saying: “I don’t recognize Israel and I don’t debate with Israelis.

...

“I refused this evening to debate with an Israeli, a supporter of the Apartheid state of Israel,” Galloway said in a statement late on Wednesday evening. “The reason is simple; No recognition, No normalization. Just Boycott, divestment and sanctions, until the Apartheid state is defeated.””

Please note that he was willing to take part in a debate ABOUT ISRAEL, but only if there were no Israelis involved.

17 Here's my half-assed thought of the moment - you can apply the NYC/DC metro area and LA with flyover country in between to California. There's Hollywood and Silicon Valley with the great unwashed in between. Just as Our Betters think that only what happens in the NYC and LA metro areas matters, so do the ruling class in California think about Hollywood and Silicon Valley. Who gives a shit what happens in the inland or mountain areas? Those people don't matter and effectively don't exist.

As for me, I think it's all spot on, perfectly capturing what is wrong with the Republican Party.

The most important part:
All our fights are because there is no one fighting for us. With or without the GOP, the majority of Americans who don't have a party will find a way toward representation.

31 NY too

24 NY counties have now voted for repeal of the NY SAFE Act. Last night, the liberal, urban Erie County legislature voted 7-4 for repeal, with 2 Dems and 1 Indy crossing the aisle to make a majority.

Cuomo can't even get his gun-grab passed in Erie County!

All opposed counties are upstate, of course, and we know it's a difficult if not impossible task to win this through the legislature, with the powerful NYC contingent. We'll need to take it to the courts, I imagine. But it's heartening that Cuomo can't even get an urban, liberal county like Erie on board.

I spoke with an NRA representative a few nights ago at the range, he told me they feel very confident right now. He's also a retired cop and told me he personally doesn't know a single cop who is for the SAFE Act and not one of them is willing to enforce it.

MOLON LABE, Cuomo.

34 Jon Corzine’s comeuppance will have to wait.

The National Futures Association, the industry’s self-regulatory body, shelved a proposal to ban the ex-chief of MF Global from the multi-billion futures trading industry after a nearly four-hour board meeting yesterday.

A vote in favor of the proposal would have prompted the NFA to set up an independent panel to weigh the lifetime ban and give Corzine a chance to defend himself.

Instead, the NFA’s board tabled the proposal, citing “ongoing investigations concerning Mr. Corzine’s activities at MF Global,” according to a statement from Chairman Christopher Hehmeyer.

54 37. Do tell...

Creosote is a gummy, foul smelling,
corrosive and extremely combustible substance that, if no precautions
are taken, will coat the insides of everything it passes.

Although some refer to the odor of the crushed leaves as the
“heavenly essence of the desert,” the Spanish word for the plant,
hediondilla, means "little stinker," signifying that not everyone
considers the odor heavenly or pleasing to the senses.
The
creosote plant was a virtual pharmacy for Native Americans and the steam
from the leaves was inhaled to relieve congestion. It was also used in
the form of a medicinal tea to cure such ailments as flu, stomach
cramps, cancer, coughs, colds, and others.

Posted by: Grey Fox at February 22, 2013 09:27 AM (c9rJ5)

Don't get me started on the race, class and gender bullshit. My sister is working on her PhD, and her dissertation is specifically about the value of homecooking traditions and how they're evolving in the modern age. She deliberately left the "race, class and gender" aspect very thin in her dissertation, keeping aside a good stack of info to incorporate after the fact, because she KNEW during the review process her committee members would demand mroe of a focus on it, regardless of how much she included up front. Lo and behold, that's what they did.

One of her fellow candidates did her dissertation on Jewish headcoverings for women. One of her committee members WOULD NOT sign off on it until she'd incorporated a whole section on the headdresses of African women. The two have absolutely nothing in common and relate to each other in no way at all, but dammit, you can't just talk about the Jews in a dissertation about Jewish women!

The EPA has pretty much banned the use of it here except for limited industrial use. Can't have it around because it worked and it was cheap.

So now, under ObamaCare, the illegal aliens will still get "free" taxfunds, even after amnesty after businesses/citizens are burdened with another "bigger is better" federal proof of ID program that won't function constitutionally, and won't be fail-safe, either.

Many of us should be proud of the education we attained, before it had gotten this bad. From Kindergarten all the way to university.

I took some graduate courses at a nearby university a few years ago, and was flabbergasted at the frankness and openly hostile environment the professors were on certain issues. Personal feelings injected all over the place.

And, if you meandered outside their "realm of thinking," you would be marked down.

I have not good memories of food in China, itself. Everything seemed so dirty to me.

The men pissing and spitting in public (Beijing -- Shanghai was not that bad; pretty modern).

I remember a lot of live seafood in tanks, etc.

Traveling into rural areas where the only toilet was a hole in the ground -- out in the open -- was a major turnoff.

I felt sorry for the people, there. Many looked so sad.

To keep the mice bait from dropping all the way to the ground, where
it could be eaten by other animals or attract insects as they rot,
researchers have developed a flotation device with streamers designed to
catch in the branches of the forest foliage, where the snakes live and

I've eaten Honduran Food prepared by a lady in an outdoor kitchen at the house I was staying at.
How does that compare to authentic Mexican? (Serious question.)
I actually found Honduran food to be a bit devoid of flavor. Lot's of rice, lots of beans, but limited amounts of spice. Not to say bad, it was quite tasty. Although eventually you tire of eggs for dinner.
Although I confess, Plantains in soup is interesting. It looks like a banana but tastes like a potato. Weird shit.
Also I couldn't even look at a papaya for weeks after I got back. Every morning was papaya juice for breakfast. Which, as it turns out is more like blended papaya and sugar. Almost sickeningly sweet.

Referring to what she called “the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning” community, Fluke said lawmakers didn’t go far enough in ending the military’s official but often unenforced ban on homosexuals.

“We still don’t let trans-folk join the military,” Fluke said February 13. “That needs to change.”

Not everything written or studied HAS to lead to gainful employment. And actually I think she already has a job offer from a cultural center.

The point of a lot of research is simply to elucidate for others something that they otherwise didn't know or never really thought about. There is absolutely nothing wrong with some individuals studying and researching niche subjects; indeed I'd say that's vital to any culture that values learning and reflection. By the time you've reached the PhD level you've (usually) scrubbed out the hobbyists and gotten to people who are genuinely interested in studying a subject in depth and providing the fruits of their studies to the community at large.

It's when every Tom, Dick and Sally decides to major in General Liberal Arts as an undergrad, because they're too lazy or too stupid to major in something more valuable, and then can't find a job that you have a problem.

Majoring in 18th Century Russian Poetry is fine if you're enthusiastic about 18th Century Russian Poetry and KNOW that you can contribute to the world by learning about it and then sharing what you've learned with others to try and make THEM enthusiastic about 18th Century Russian Poetry.

It is NOT a good idea to major in 18th Century Russian Poetry because it's got all the hot Teaching Assistants and the best-looking tutors down at the student center.

Have one close to my house. Nice to see a moron endorse it as I have always been on the fence about trying it. Might grab some this weekend.

Yeah, I really liked it. 9 bucks for a half chicken and you don't get cheated on the size! And get extra sauce because you'll probably want it because it runs out with the amount of chicken you get.

I have a really good friend who is tiny, cute, and absolutely looks like a pre-pubescent girl. She is in her early 40s. When we are out dancing, men stalk her relentlessly and the looks on their faces are uber creepy. I have often thought to myself that she could have made an absolute fortune had she not been a good Catholic girl.

I just wonder where do our betters in Washington think we are going with
all of the crazy spending and legislation? Are they retarded? Can they
not think past point A to point B to point C?
=============
They know. They read the same things you are reading. There's some real information that gets through their bubble.
They're doing either/and two things:
1) Dismissing it as over-reaction.
2) Believe they so control the system that they'll be immune/protected.

Here is what they never learned in those ivy towers: Humans only play by the rules when it benefits them. And the only thing that's keeping them safe right now is everyone is still playing by their rules.

219 I never cared for Tiger from the beginning - all the knob-slobbering over him being the greatest golfer EVAH! got on my nerves. Sure, he's talented, but I guarantee you a lot of his praise was of the Donovan McNabb variety.

Oh, Tiger can golf his ball, but remember when a group of women dressed as men moved that big rock for him during a tournament? Otherwise, he would not have a shot at all. One or two strokes, and no one called him on it. 6 gaylords can move a rock and all of a sudden it's a moveable object?

Cheaters gonna cheat.

220 194 Bigby's jazz Hands,

Heh it does seem a tad over the top emo, but in my defense I am letting left unsaid with that lament is that far too many people like me likely made the same judgement call. That I have companions in my error does not expiate me of my culpability or exonerate my lack of will. I failed to defend with my mind that which I had sworn to defend with my body and sadly the lack of heart I showed on the educational battlefield probably does not speak highly of my courage in the face of random death on the military one had the occasion rose.

My wife gave a rare wink at my feeling of inferiority that I had not gotten to have had my military career, I would have likely retired this month had life gone as planned and said "you're courageous and i think would have made a better NCO in the face of mayhem than I've made."

I reminded her that she has endured battle with a courage I have never been tested with, and that despite the fact I've been shot at I was not comfortable saying I could cope mentally with the rocket and mortar attacks she endured.

I was pondering my failure to finish college when I said it.

232 BCE/CE is PC because it means nobody has to be OFFENDED by the term OUR Lord, when maybe they don't yet understand Jesus as our Master. But without calendar reform, it still has to do with CHRISTIAN. They haven't figured out yet how to get around that. Give 'm time; we'll eventually measure dates from the alleged birth of the Kenyan King....

I liked McChunk, especially when he'd outduel that asshole Favre in the playoffs, but he should've told everybody to STFU when he got all butthurt over Rush's comments. And Tiger is even more of a media creation than McSoup. The USGA loves him because it gets a lot more people interested in golf, even though the majority of them are fucking dumbasses who don't have any respect for the game. Plus Tiger's a major prick to everybody whether they suck his wang or not; kind of like the JEF. I'll give Tiger credit for one thing: He's still playing at a high level after major knee surgery after torquing it with that monster swing (*cough* HGH *cough*) and dialing back his swing by design at least twice. The Golden Bear's career major record is looking safe though as Eldrick is finding out just what a pain it is to be mentally tough over time.
