The 60th, or Maybe the 70th, Vote to Confirm the Idiot Hagel

Richard Shelby announced he'd vote for cloture (which is really the vote to confirm Hagel), on the theory that Hagel is the best we can do.

Which isn't true. In his public utterances he's made it plain he's to the left of Obama (again, as a matter of public statements).

With 60 in, many Republicans will vote for cloture so that the media will say nice things about them, which they won't.

The credible threat of a filibuster sure as hell has, and the overwhelming majority of such credible threats being used to block nominees have come from the Democratic side of the aisle.

Why do we even have a GOP any longer?

It's just one long string of passive capitulations to the liberals' agenda and choices.

Just fold up the tent and go be Democrats already.

I mean, for fuck's sake, we have a prominent guy in the Republican Party who is mulling a Presidential run in 2016 who says that if he wins, he'll govern like LBJ. We have another prominent so-called Republican in the same position who says that his positions on the issues are overwhelmingly identical to those of arch-libtard Andrew Cuomo.

A letter from X senators is worth zero unless they intend to further humiliate Hagel along the way.

If they're not going to filibuster, there is no point to Obama withdrawing the nomination, and if they are, I think Obama would rather see the GOP take the heat for the "unprecedented" use of the filibuster then take the personal embarassment of making Hagel withdraw.

But if Graham, etc, can call Hagel back for more questioning, and or hurt him more with more embarrassing personal information (eg donations to Hamas, accepting speaking fees from Iran, etc), then the smarter move would be for Obama to withdraw him before that can happen.

180 I'd be outraged if it wasn't so predictable. The only thing the MSM is concerned about is the "unprecedented" opposition to Hagel. His lack of qualifications and refusal to disclose his financial ties with Iran that include being a paid shill?

Nah. Just Republican obstructionism, and possibly racism.

The fuck? All of the others? Pretty good conservatives?

McSame. Morecokeski. Ayotte. Grahamnesty before his recent oh-shit-I'm-going-to-get-primaried swing to the right. And the reliability of those remaining is low.

There are really only about 15 reliably conservative voices in the Senate. On a bad day, maybe 10.

As Ace recently posted, we ought to try and destroy NBC. Drag down the weakest first. Make the others run in panic. They will be less trouble when they are running for their lives.

207 Obama is a drug addled meat puppet.

He goes "golfing" to get his briefings from his handlers.

There is not one person on his staff, not one person on his cabinet, not one thing he has done that has been derived from any plans of his own making.

His inside handler is Valerie Jarrett an Iranian masquerading as an American. His SoS had a personal handler who was associated with Hamas.

The list goes on. Oh, and these inside handlers I spoke of were probably there mostly to prevent deviations from the script. They're more like "minders" (if you ever have read Le `Carre) They also serve as an emergency "stop" button in extreme cases.

Yes his past points to where he's headed but his past was just a qualifier for his selection not a guiding light.

He's been pampered, powdered and procured for years. His education was paid by enemies of the US and his legend was created by known terrorists and anti Americans.

He has been the beneficiary of political research that NO ONE has ever been able to duplicate.

When Hillary was showing signs of winning the Clintons were bought off with various devices and promises.

If I was watching this as movie it would be totally unbelievable but that doesn't make it any less possible or true.

Anyone who thinks that every step that Obama makes hasn't been orchestrated hasn't been paying attention. The man himself is a 2nd rate communist race hustler from Chicago and without assistance there is NO WAY he could've reached where he is and remained there without assistance from deep pockets and vast resources.

Since his every action has put this country more and more in danger and the people divided, it is obvious that our most powerful and well financed (*cough* *oil princes* *cough*) enemies have decided to assume control for their own benefit.

I wonder how many of those Republicans were told that they'd get a nice write-up by the Media person, who added "Of course, it has to go past my boss, but trust me--this time, that glowing profile is yours. Not like last time."

220 Hell yes, confirm Hagel as SecDef. He can join Kerry as SecState in sinking Obama's ship of state underneath him in the foreign arena. Of course this means the next president will be in the most lonely foreign policy situation we've been in since the War of 1812, but having Obummer friends go down in flames beyond the MSM's ability to protect him seems like a good enough reward.

222 Being the best we're likely to get out of the Obama administration and being good are not the same thing. You can be a completely shit candidate ('sup, Chuck?) and still be the best you're likely to see TFG appoint. I don't and never would recommend confirming Chuck Hagel on his merits. I'd recommend it on the basis that I'd rather have him in there than see just how shitty it's possible for TFG's nominees to be.
