Toure: Stuck On Stupid

Toure, you dolt. I carry a concealed handgun, and I hope like hell I never have to use it.

I also carry a homeowners' insurance policy on my house that I hope to never have to file a claim on.

66 "Data shows that for the avg person the chance to use a gun against a criminal is a once in a lifetime event."

One of the most classic forms of liberal blindness to reality comes up in any discussion of gun self-defense. To wit:

[Liberal] No one needs a gun to protect themselves. That's the police's job.

[Torque] My friend Bill has had to pull his carry weapon FIVE times. There were no cops anywhere around, and he wouldn't have even been able to finish dialing 9-1-1 before getting stomped or stabbed. Street thugs aren't much intimidated by a phone.

[Liberal] I don't believe you. Show me the police reports that your imaginary friend "Bill" filed afterwards.

[Torque] Bill carries concealed illegally. Because this is goddamned urban Commiefornia. You have to be a ultrawealthy female Jewish liberal U.S. Senator like Dianne Feinstein to get a legit concealed carry permit in these counties. A privilege the Feinstein types have denied to everyone but themselves. If you're an ordinary working class schmuck, forget it. No chance of permit issuance. If Bill called the cops to report he averted an assault by pulling his sidearm, the cops would throw HIS ass in jail. That's why there is no report of the incident.

[Liberal] I knew you were lying.

Note how the situation liberals carefully set up (with an assist from idiot RINOs) works to further buttress the liberals' long term goal of a total gun ban. A lot of data about armed self-defense is never recorded because liberals made it a crime to go armed and thus to provide said data.

Steam jets. Ears. Some assembly required.

96 And of course Toure forgets the fact that if *some* people have guns at home, then criminals are less likely to intrude on ANYONE'S home with people present because they can't be sure who does and doesn't have a gun.

So my gun. . .even if I never so much as remove it from the safe. . .still protects me, my family, and everyone else on the block.

And of course as Billy said, you don't have to actually SHOOT a criminal to "persuade" him to leave you alone. As any cop or armed robber will tell you, merely credibly suggesting to someone that they MIGHT get shot is a fairly effective way to change their attitude right quick.

Tell that to the 500 or so homicide victims in Chicago each year. They'd all like to know that it's rare for a criminal to show up---it's even rarer for the shooter to show up at the victim's funeral to say that they're sorry, and they didn't understand Toure's rule that criminals should show up infrequently if at all. 125 "Data shows that for the avg criminal that picking an armed victim is a once in a lifetime event."

Horseshit. No resemblance to reality.

In the absolutely overwhelming number of cases that I am personally aware of regarding armed self-defense, the perp escapes completely unharmed.

Here's the sequence:

(a) Perp confronts intended victim

(b) Intended victim deploys firearm

(c) Perp instantly turns tail and runs

(d) Intended victim looks at escaping perp and thinks, "Gee, do I shoot this scumwad in the back, and quite likely lose everything I own in a civil suit, and quite likely go to prison on murder charges that will follow me for the rest of my life even after I'm paroled, or do I just reholster and call it a day?"

(e) Intended victim reholsters and goes about their business.

It would be REALLY GREAT if every time a mugger or rapist tried to ply their trade on an armed citizen, the predator was removed from the food chain. But it does not work that way for what should be obvious reasons.

30 years ago when I was going to college in mpls. Ialmost got a beat down from a psycho brute with a tire iron after he ran me off the road. I was able to calm him down while standing behind the hood of my pickup with my hand in my jacket and saying, "you do not want to do this, you will be shot dead."

Luckily he believed me, and yelled at me for another 30 seconds and then got in his piece of shit chevy and drove off. I did not have a gun. Thankfully I was able to bluff him, and no one and nothing got hurt that day, especially me.

And that is how most defensive gun uses really end. No shots, no one hurt. The bad guys decide that the risk is too much and leave. The ones we see in the paper are the stupid, the drugged up or crazy, and the evil criminals.

202 I hate to say this, but what liberal isn't stuck on stupid-at least about politics? I know some very intelligent ,people who are liberals, but the minute you discuss hot button issues their intelligence goes out the window. It's the naive utopianism combined with any overeliance on "feelings". I understand it because I was a liberal for many years. Now that I'm not a liberal I think, "How could I have ever thought that way?"

He actually did have to use it too. . .he was sleeping in his bed in his crappy cheap apt, and he heard someone opening the window. He grabbed his gun and said loudly something to the effect of "get out of here now, or you die". Response? "I'm leaving. . .don't shoot".

292 My hubby's liberal friend tried this argument on him once. It took about three seconds for Mr. Laura to demolish him by pointing out that he'd never had to use the fire extinguishers we have in our home, and he'd never had to administer CPR to anyone. Poor lib friend tries every time, and every time he fails.

303 Gaaaaaahhhh. Napalm-grade stupid. Did not read comments; may repeat observations.

Once in a lifetime, eh? On average? In that case, at some point, everyone is likely to need a gun, on average. Thanks for pointing that out.

Mindful's Mrs notes, if you don't have a gun for that once-in-a-lifetime event, you're likely to have a much shorter lifetime.

Ever see a story where a cop has fired at someone for the first time, after years on the force? Yeah, and they go toward danger. Ever had, say, tenant's insurance that you never had to collect on? Yeah. Ever... yeah, you know.

I only know what a Touré is because amusing highlights from the dead-to-me media leak into my echo chamber of not-left blogs, websites, and netvids. Some idiot tweeted something stupid. Imagine that! Also, there's a video of a guy failing a dangerous stunt. What a shock.

May Abe Vigoda outlive the laughingstock media, and all their academic and "entertainment" cohorts.

304 I've never had a home insurance policy with other than Winchester 1300 Defender. It really doesn't cover much except criminal liberals but should I ever have to use it, I'm certain it will work well against a liberal criminal.

If my home should be destroyed for some other reason, like the kids want to camp out and it's cold and raining outside, so I let them build a campfire on the living room floor, I'll just have to suck it up. I'm a big believer in personal responsibility.

If the evil George Bush destroys my home with one of his hurricanes, tornadoes, forest fires, lightening strikes or acts of God, I know I can count on FEMA to help me out as soon as they're done helping the victims of Hurricane Sandy in ten years or so.

The lefties uses use the same arguments repeatedly, without much originality. Moderates and LIVs who have listened to this crap nonstop may bounce the same questions off us, and actually be pursuaded by the answer if given the chance.

Being aware of these specious arguments gives you a chance to prepare the answer in advance.

Yes, I saw it. It is actually her newest official portrait. I must say it looks like finally a stylist got a hold of her, dressed her properly, and fixed up her hair and makeup and then they posed her so that her lower half doesn't take up 80% of the shot.

310 Toure sees the truth- most "self defense" guns are just owned by racist right-wing rednecks who are too cowardly to join the Army and fight in one of Bush's illegal wars, but still spend their lives really wanting to shoot a brown person from the comfort of their own home.

325 Can you morons even read? This is clearly a pro-gun twitter message. It says all Americans should carry guns because, on average, each of them will need to use lethal force to protect themselves from a violent criminal!

This pro-gun statistic is obviously bunk though. If it were true, EVERYONE would be packing in anticipation of their dance with doom. Thankfully, we don't live in Somalia, so most of us will never actually have to use a firearm against another person.

Anyone with any schooling knows that the only risks worth paying attention to are those whose probability exceeds 50%. That's why it's safe to play Russian roulette, as long as you aren't using a musket.
