The Science is Settled: A Consensus of Scientists Finds Global Warming Concerns Overblown or Actually Ill-Founded

From @comradearthur in the sidebar: This is science now, right? Taking a poll?

Well, they took a poll. Global Warming lost.

This used to give Michael Crichton fits. Over and over again he would almost have a stroke saying This is not how science works. You do not take a "poll" to establish a proposition. The very idea that you are taking a poll of what people believe rather than what they have proven demonstrates, from the first words you've spoken, that they haven't proven anything.

It's a point so simple and foundational it's hard to get across properly.

That's not science, it's faith. The other variant I use is that the science was firmly settled that the Earth was flat. Right up until it wasn't. It's hilarious watching all the Discovery/Science Channel/History/H2 shows that I watch that state all certainly that a meteor strike killed the dinosaurs when I remember that the people who first proposed that were considered nuts.

27 I don't know if you would call this a poll or not in the conventional sense of what a poll is. It appears they did a survey and asked real scientists if they believed humans were responsible for AGW.

And it appears that most said no.

The facts as we now know them are (1) There is no global warming to begin with. We have been on a cooling trend since 1998. (2) The data for AGW was largely fraudulent as is the NOAA data that called last year the hottest in ever ever. (3) The warmies never release their methods or their raw data (4) The warmies did not get a peer review as they claimed because the people who did review it were disregarded (and the UN admitted it). (5) The warmies did everything they could do to hide their fraudulent activity, (6) And finally the MFM will not publish anything that discredits the warmies.

The solution, throw them all in jail for trillion dollar fraud.

93 The "Global Warming" implosion reveals that the puppetmasters aren't all powerful gods that conservatives have no chance of competing with.

If they were really smart, they always would have gone with "climate change" as that is of course always happening. But even though they tried to shift terminology late in the game they got stuck with GLOBAL WARMING.

Fucking hilarious.

94 got it:

http://tinyurl.com/amenego

one highlight:

Editorial bias. We know from the leaked Climategate emails that a small clique of influential government scientists worked behind the scenes to get academic journal editors to reject papers that would otherwise have qualified for publication. These scientists even arranged for editors who dared to publish such papers to be fired or pressured into resigning. This is gross editorial bias and likely contributed to some of the disparity in publishing numbers between skeptics and alarmists. More subtle bias, which might not be apparent even to the editors who exercise it, probably accounts for still more of the disparity.

(read the whole thing, definitely worth your time.)

"Let's be clear: the work of science has nothing whatever to do with
consensus. Consensus is the business of politics. Science, on the contrary,
requires only one investigator who happens to be right, which means that he or
she has results that are verifiable by reference to the real world. In science
consensus is irrelevant. What is relevant is reproducible results. The greatest
scientists in history are great precisely because they broke with the
consensus."

-Michael Crichton

100 You know what gives me fits? When natural scientists use the word "proven".

No. No. No. You can't "prove" anything. Proof is the exclusive domain of mathematics because we start with specific axioms and move on from there. We assume the axioms to be true. There are no natural laws involved.

You can have overwhelming evidence, you can have a well-tested hypothesis, but proof is metaphysical and we might end up finding out more information.

104 The first reports of the meteor last week said it was 10 tons. By yesterday, they were saying 10 *thousand* tons. Gotta be Obama economists involved.

Would you say that it was UNEXPECTED?

105 Meh, I bet most quantum mechanical properties would fail in a poll as well. The fact that something is being polled has no bearing at all on the truth of the proposition. Especially for something that has become so politically charged.

"Science deniers!"

This was the cry of the Left, towards anyone who didn't follow their new religion of global warming.

Turns out...they were the ones who were denying science.

Some of us knew this all along.
I'm just glad that the gigantic Hoax is finally being exposed.

109 Global warming is very real, and mankind presents a clear and present danger to the future of the planet. Population control and strict environmental laws are the answer. Only by submitting to the rule of the correctly-thinking for the duration of this emergency can mankind be saved.

110 Science also does not work according to "proof." it works by attempting to establish the best fittedness of the facts to theories. Proofs are at best unrealistic and at worst impossible.

111 A collection of various criticisms can be found in the book "Hundert Autoren gegen Einstein" (A Hundred authors against Einstein), published in 1931.

Einstein is reported to have said with irony, that one author alone would have been sufficient to refute him:

"If I were wrong, then one would have been enough!" --Albert Einstein, commenting on the book '100 Authors Against Einstein'
