Scratch an Environmentalist, Find a Malthusian

Stacy McCain has a great piece about the underpinnings of the environmental movement.

What too many Americans today fail to understand is the extent to which popular ideas about many issues — ranging from contraception to environmentalism — are not organic, but were manufactured by this cabal of wealthy population-control fanatics led by David Rockefeller.

“In the hands of a skillful indoctrinator, the average student not only thinks what the indoctrinator wants him to think . . . but is altogether positive that he has arrived at his position by independent intellectual exertion. This man is outraged by the suggestion that he is the flesh-and-blood tribute to the success of his indoctrinators.”ť
– William F. Buckley Jr., Up From Liberalism (1959)

These skillful indoctrinators are still at it and, after many decades of propaganda from the population control movement, their ideas have been sufficiently diffused throughout our culture that the indoctrinators themselves don’t even know the etiology of their ideas, so that their students are entirely clueless.

Keep that in mind when you read this account of the greenie protest about the weather that was held in DC yesterday. The video below the fold perfectly captures the results of this indoctrination.

My canned response to anti-human idiots like this: You first.

Every single one of these previous alcohol causes cancer studies when broken down shows that-

Christianity provides the True answers to all these underpinings, but it doesn't come easy.

Liberalism in general and environmentalism in particular also provide a solution to these inherent desires, but without the "sacrafice" that Christianity asks of us.

* I use Christianity here alone, but it applies equally to the Judean understanding as well.

I told him I would love to take every one of these people (of which he was one) and send them back to a commune in the middle of nowhere and allow them only the tools and technology of the mid 1800s and force them to live that way for a year.

Of course he thought that was insane. It is just like all the liberal idiots. All their new "rules" would only apply to other people.

Implied in that is the racist assumption that the dumb Africans couldn't possibly know about soil depletion and so wallowed in their ignorance to this day.

You know who was the biggest voice in America regarding soil depletion? George Washington Carver. His whole schtick with peanuts was to replenish the soil depleted by cotton.

(And really? All of Africa was a huge banana plantation? And bananas were not native to Africa, they were brought in from...Scotland? I had no idea bananas were such a huge staple in Europe, in fact, that the whole continent was dedicated to giving Europeans their supply of 50 bananas a day.)

I haven't read the abstract but I'd note a few things right off the bat.First I'm not sure 1.5 drinks daily is a "moderate" drinker. I'd be curious to see what an average person actually drinks per day. (Or maybe I just don't drink as heavily as most americans.) The article even hints at this.
Secondly, not all cancers are created equally. We're fairly certain that we know the mechanism that causes mouth cancer as a result of drinking (especially in combination with smoking.) It has to do with assault to mucas membranes of the mouth. More or less ditto for the throat and stomach. Hence the additive effect with smoking (two disturbances of the membranes rather than one.) So you'd need to correct for about 100 (made up number) factors in this study (diet, smoking, age, drinking habits, etc.) I doubt they corrected for even 1.I'd actually buy a higher incident of liver cancer as a result of drinking but I'm wondering if it only occurs after a threshold level of alcohol consumption.

There was an interview that Kurt Loder did with U2 during that 45 seconds where alternative music was huge and Loder asked them something about indie music. Bono's response was more or less that they had so much money thanks to their accountants that they could do whatever the hell they wanted so they'd looped back to being indie. It's a fair cop.

150 First I'm not sure 1.5 drinks daily is a "moderate" drinker.

The CDC defines things so everyone who doesn't abstain completely can be considered "unhealthy."

A "drink" is 12 ounces of beer or 4 oz of wine or 1.5 oz of liquor. A single pint after work puts you at "more than one drink."

If you have had 12 ounces of beer or 4 ounces of wine or 1.5 oz of liquor in the last 30 days, you "use" alcohol. If you do this more than 30-day period a year, you are a "regular user." You think you're a non-drinker but you had a flute of champagne on NYE and a mimosa on Mother's Day? Nein! You are a regular user of alcohol!

Don't even get me started on the "binge drinking"...if I order a second pint during the course of an afternoon of watching football--or a single Maß at Oktoberfest--I have "binged." (3 drinks is a "binge" for women; 5 for men) If I do this twice in a month, I am a "habitual binge drinker."

[So now Obamacare can deny me treatments, because "habitual binge drinkers" don't deserve our resources. Ho-hum.]

Family friend Derek Tague says Biggers, who went by "Buck," died unexpectedly at his Plymouth, Mass., home on Sunday.

The native of Avondale Estates, Ga., worked for the New York City advertising firm DFS when he accepted an assignment from the agency's largest client, General Mills, to create television cartoons to promote its breakfast cereals. The most famous was "Underdog," which debuted on NBC in 1964.

Three drinks over the course of how long? An hour? Two hours? A day?

Let's say I go out (pretend I go Outside m'kay?) for a nice leisurely dinner with friends (also pretend I have friends outside the magic box, m'kay?). We have a martini before dinner, then we have a glass of wine with dinner and then we have an irish coffee after dinner. So I'm the same binge drinker as the sorority chick who shoved a tampon soaked in Val U Rite up her ass and then did a keg stand? Okay then.

Stipulated, of course.

But are the vast majority of Americans drinking a pint every day? My guess would be know. Even 2 pints a night on Friday, Saturday and Sunday is still not 1.5 servings per day (1 more pint on any day is though I guess.)

Yeah the binge drinking stuff is moronic, because it's "per sitting."
So the college dude next to me at the bar orders up 3 shots, fires them all back and walks off, but I nurse 3 beers (one before dinner, one during, and one after) we're both apparently exactly the same: "binge drinkers."

We had a good laugh about what total bullshit it actually was. He read it and wrote what was necessary. Higher education is a great indoctrination scam. I think one of the best parts is that he is now drinking beer (as an underage drinker) and hanging out with other beer drinkers. His mother wouldn't agree with that at all, but he has to learn how to socialize with REAL men by the time he gets out.

He is also learning not to respect a lot of stupid rules and laws, which is an important bit of growth for any normal American in these times.

It's absurd, but it's deliberate. On a Friday night I can consume 3-4 drinks easily and still be sober enough at the end of the night to drive, because I pace myself and usually average about one drink an hour. Somehow this makes me a substance abuser.

193 DD#3's fiance spouts this kind of nonsense all the time - says the Earth is in danger of being overcrowded.

All it takes is knowledgeable counterargument. I told DD to look at where her Dad grew up (we visit his family every year) - a town of maybe 2000 people, out in the middle of nowhere; the nearest town is literally 30 miles away.

Then told her to look at where SHE grew up - a thriving metropolis of 1/2 million people (and next to an even larger metropolis).

I asked her to compare and contrast - how many services/amenities are available in a town with practically no people vs. one where there are SO many people that the population has the freedom to diversify and offer lots of selections?

If there are no people, there can be no dog groomers, no nail salons, no movie theaters, a minimal (if any) choice of restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, etc. Everyone basically has to provide everything for themselves, because nobody has the time to do anything else.

Being me, I leapt on the Dihydrogen Monoxide thing. Oh the fun I had with that. One of the great things about that prank is that the people who know what it is usually also think it's hilarious and will join in. At one point, my little group that started off as me and the roommate in the shopping center parking lot turned into 15 people with signs and everything.

269 Please read Garret Hardin's "The Tragedy of the Commons" (Science).
1. The world's human population cannot grow without limit.
2.Earth's maximum possible instantaneous human population is greater than it's maximum possible sustainable population.
3. Earth's maximum possible sustainable human population leaves little room for large non-human terrestrial animals or for wilderness.
4. The human population of Earth will stop growing when (a) the death rate rises to meet the birth rate or (b) the birth rate falls to meet the death rate.
5.The human population of Earth will stop growing as a result of either (a) deliberate human agency or (b) other.
6. Deliberate human agency is either (a) democratically determined or (b) other.
7. All human behavioral traits are heritable.Therefore...
8. Voluntary programs for population control selectively breed non-compliant individuals.

Oddly enough, some of the reusable shopping bags Mrs. Chronda occasionally comes home with (she sometimes gives in to social pressure; if she didn't I never could have pressured her to marry me) are cloth bags infused with plastic. 401 The Allee Effect was first put forth in the 1930's:

Through experimental studies, Allee was able to demonstrate that goldfish grow more rapidly when there are more individuals within the tank.[2] This led him to conclude that aggregation can improve the survival rate of individuals, and that cooperation may be crucial in the overall evolution of social structure....

....Individuals within a species generally require the assistance of another for more than simple reproductive reasons in order to persist. Examples of these can easily be seen in animals that hunt for prey or defend against predators as a group.

As a species' population becomes smaller, its gene pool will be reduced in size as well. One possible outcome from this genetic bottleneck is a reduction in fitness of the species through the process of genetic drift, also called inbreeding depression

Roberts was clear in saying that the existing penalty was small enough to qualify as a tax, implying that it couldn't be raised without completely rewriting the law. 460 Yeah great so we'll have a busted law (and everyone will no it is
busted) but there will still be no impetus to fix it. Meanwhile
insurance prices will skyrocket.

The impetus will be that it doesn't have anywhere near the necessary money to make it work, and that people will be losing their insurance while those that keep it will see their premiums skyrocket. No, I don't think this will open the door to single payer. People have already had more than enough of government health care. There will be a recognition that the entire think needs to be scrapped, and a new approach found. One that won't be pushed through by one party.
