The ammo manufacturers operate under federal license, so in that respect they are kind of indentured servants. If they want to keep it, they have to do as they're told.

I thought most federal contracts are put up for bids, and there should be no reason that a company can simply choose not to bid on a contract. Of course, when dealing with the federal tyranny, there is no telling what the rules are, as they are manufactured as required to suit the needs of the day.

49 I'm starting the conspiracy theory that Maker's did this as a marketing stunt, similar to New Coke. Maker's wanted to raise prices, but knew that a price hike would upset its main long-term customers. So it came up with one thing that would upset them more, less alcohol. Now Maker's can raise prices and customers will simply be happy that the alcohol content is the same, and maybe be more understanding of the price hike. Its genius.

Experiment where random people were asked to stand up straight with shoulders back, gut sucked in, for 2 minutes. Other random people were asked to sit slumped in a chair.

Standing people in confident pose had a marked increase in testosterone, and carried a feeling of confidence for the rest of the day. Slumping people carried a feeling of inadequacy the rest of the day.

I therefore conclude that my grandmother, a product of the early 20th century, was absolutely correct in admonishing me to have good posture and to not slump in my chair.

Not sure about the price, but that stuff is "special ed in a bottle".

I've known a couple of people who went full-on retard when drinking it, such as punching out a plate-glass window that resulted in a hospital trip and being deported from a Study Abroad trip to the UK.

I know that's a joke but there may be some people on here who don't know anything about 'Shine.

The quality depends on several factors, first the ingredients, including the water. Second on how carefully the maker blends the stuff and cooks it. And importantly how clean he keeps his equipment.
And for those who don't know, you can not use a radiator to distill moonshine. It puts lead in it.

Particularly if you think Obamacare will cave under its own weight, why trade it knowning it will die. But at this point, I would gladly trade it for sequester. My worry would be that using it that manner may somehow get it to increase in public support.

What's unusual to me is that most of the rounds asked for are the JHP type that are used against "soft tissue". They are more expensive than the FMJ type used for target practice and training. If these rounds are for training like DHS says they are, they are either 1) wasting money like they always do, or 2) know something else and aren't being up-front about it.

177 Polynikes - Heard Michael Barry talking about that this morning. I like the approach the Astros are taking, as Drayton did not leave the team in the best of shape with disasterous drafts and one year in which they were unable to sign any of their top picks.

But talk about not understanding your fan base.Obama is very strongly disliked in Houston. Houston is known for 3 businesses: oil, medicine, and space. All 3are despised by Obama. If it is known that the Astros owner is a Democrat, it will affect his bottom line. Though the state they are in now no one will notice.

Not that I wanted to go to an Astros game anyway, but I think this will basically keep me away for a long time. I don't think we are alone.

235 re Everclear -- a fifth here in MS goes for $15.65. A fifth of the cheapest triple distilled vodka goes for $7.99.

Doing a bit of prohibited blog math, the ratio of alcohol content is 2.375:1 (95/40) whereas the price of the Everclear is less than double.

Everclear is the superior value purchase.

As far as using Everclear as paint stripper, your local hardware store probably carries denatured ethanol at a much cheaper cost than potable booze. But do NOT ever try to distill out the gasoline they add to make ethanol 'denatured', as it forms an azeotrope which cannot be separated by distillation.

322 That's a timely warning about not trying to re-nature the denatured alcohol. Some (the editorial "some") have seen the imposition of denaturing as the government poisoning its citizens. I believe strongly that most cases of instant blindness and/or madness attributed to moonshine was due to the presence of denatured alcohol in discarded radiators pressed into distillation service.

Add a few drops of Liquid Smoke flavoring to fresh native corn whiskey, and you have instant 4-year-old barrel-aged whiskey. Not really bourbon, not really sipping stock, but you will admit that you've bought worse "bottled in bond." It's a real lesson in how much handling and storage make up the taste you recognize.

In western North Carolina where distilling has never been legal, civilized folk including virtual teetotallers would enjoy fruit punches with a portion of corn liquor. They only turned up their noses at those who drank from the demijohn at distillation proof. They just saw that as a drug habit, and looked down at it.

336 Yeah, I got boobeh'ed by you before. I just don't learn.

The days I am here the most are the days I have to deal with with the government on specs or licensing or whatever. Witnessing the Peter Principle up close wears me right out.

Monday math. Missed a decade.

So, give Connolly say -- Mulholland Falls.

She still loses.

340 Thanks to a complicit press, Booker is teflon. If this happened under a repub, all hell would break loose. Even here in NJ, it's gotten little to no press.

If we do not face that we are no longer dems vs repubs, but all out war against the msm, we cannot win.

David Frum is so stupid.

He asked on Twitter why guns don't have an indicator showing there's a bullet in the chamber.

My head. It hurts.

Look into the barrel Dave, if there's a round there you should be able to see it. But only if the safety is off

343 At about the same age:

Demi Moore - Blame It on Rio
Jennifer Connolly - Labyrinth

You'd best hope Obamacare covers optometrist visits.

I just looked up pics for both. You're gonna have to explain how that's a loss for Connolly.

344 That's a timely warning about not trying to re-nature the denatured
alcohol. Some (the editorial "some") have seen the imposition of
denaturing as the government poisoning its citizens. I believe strongly
that most cases of instant blindness and/or madness attributed to
moonshine was due to the presence of denatured alcohol in discarded
radiators pressed into distillation service.

Posted by: comatus at February 18, 2013 11:45 AM

Thats why I use everclear to make shellac and to french polish. The denatured alcohol can screw with your optic nerves. A lot of guys who were french polishing in the furniture industry in the early 1900s were going blind from the denatured stuff.

Well, it was Mulholland Falls, so it is possible I was taking a short nap when she was on screen. Good cast, except for the Nolte, boring as all get out.

I'll never retire. Have been in private sector most of my life. Sales, my own business etc. Did OK but don't have a guaranteed pension, so I can hope for a job I'm physically able to do for as long as I can. Friend of mine was talking about having 2 years left to his 20 year gov. Retirement (at 58yrs. old) then an option to come back for 5 more years but only if he can find something easier like "training". I was trying not to hate him but it was tough. Even though I know being a cop is no cakewalk.
*Repost from last thead but can't get it out of my mind.

356 US Public Pensions Worst In The World

Not in Massachusetts!
MA Law dictates that any annual state pension yields short of 9% must be topped out of the general fund.

357 I may sound completely naive, but I don't believe Maker's did this for publicity. I've been a Maker'sambassador since 2002.I've been to many of their functions and interacted with lots of their staff, and they seem to genuinely care about their fans. I think they just did something (really) stupid and figured we'd all go along with it because we love Maker's. Thank God they're not going the way of Jack Daniels.
