I'm starting the conspiracy theory that Maker's did this as a marketing stunt, similar to New Coke. Maker's wanted to raise prices, but knew that a price hike would upset its main long-term customers. So it came up with one thing that would upset them more, less alcohol. Now Maker's can raise prices and customers will simply be happy that the alcohol content is the same, and maybe be more understanding of the price hike. Its genius.

Experiment where random people were asked to stand up straight with shoulders back, gut sucked in, for 2 minutes. Other random people were asked to sit slumped in a chair. Quality depends a lot on the type of radiator used by the 'shiner.
Posted by: Cicero Kid at February 18, 2013 10:08 AM (UrENZ) I know that's a joke but there may be some people on here who don't know anything about 'Shine. The quality depends on several factors, first the ingredients, including the water. Second on how carefully the maker blends the stuff and cooks it. And importantly how clean he keeps his equipment. And for those who don't know, you can not use a radiator to distill moonshine. It puts lead in it. Posted by: Vic at February 18, 2013 10:14 AM (53z96) 98

I've long thought that we should use Obamacare as the trade for anything. Obamacare for sequester sounds like a good trade to me, though I'm sure some would disagree. Particularly if you think Obamacare will cave under its own weight, why trade it knowning it will die. But at this point, I would gladly trade it for sequester. My worry would be that using it that manner may somehow get it to increase in public support.

Share? What's unusual to me is that most of the rounds asked for are the JHP type that are used against "soft tissue". They are more expensive than the FMJ type used for target practice and training. If these rounds are for training like DHS says they are, they are either 1) wasting money like they always do, or 2) know something else and aren't being up-front about it. But talk about not understanding your fan base.Obama is very strongly disliked in Houston. Houston is known for 3 businesses: oil, medicine, and space. All 3are despised by Obama. re Everclear -- a fifth here in MS goes for $15.65. A fifth of the cheapest triple distilled vodka goes for $7.99.
Doing a bit of prohibited blog math, the ratio of alcohol content is 2.375:1 (95/40) whereas the price of the Everclear is less than double. Everclear is the superior value purchase. As far as using Everclear as paint stripper, your local hardware store probably carries denatured ethanol at a much cheaper cost than potable booze. But do NOT ever try to distill out the gasoline they add to make ethanol 'denatured', as it forms an azeotrope which cannot be separated by distillation. Oh, and Presidents Day sucks. Okay L' elle, I'm going to add "Space Truckin'" and yes, "Smoke on the Water" to those three. So basically the Machine Head album.
I never could afford to buy many albums and so I was pretty much restricted to songs that got radio play and friends albums. Part of the reason I like "Smoke" is the background story (true?) that it tells a story that happened while they were in Switzerland recording the album. That's a timely warning about not trying to re-nature the denatured alcohol. Some (the editorial "some") have seen the imposition of denaturing as the government poisoning its citizens. I believe strongly that most cases of instant blindness and/or madness attributed to moonshine was due to the presence of denatured alcohol in discarded radiators pressed into distillation service.
Add a few drops of Liquid Smoke flavoring to fresh native corn whiskey, and you have instant 4-year-old barrel-aged whiskey. Not really bourbon, not really sipping stock, but you will admit that you've bought worse "bottled in bond." It's a real lesson in how much handling and storage make up the taste you recognize. In western North Carolina where distilling has never been legal, civilized folk including virtual teetotallers would enjoy fruit punches with a portion of corn liquor. They only turned up their noses at those who drank from the demijohn at distillation proof. They just saw that as a drug habit, and looked down at it. I may sound completely naive, but I don't believe Maker's did this for publicity. I've been a Maker'sambassador since 2002.I've been to many of their functions and interacted with lots of their staff, and they seem to genuinely care about their fans. I think they just did something (really) stupid and figured we'd all go along with it because we love Maker's. Thank God they're not going the way of Jack Daniels.
