Good News: GOP Set To Allow Hagel's Confirmation

One can only assume the Jews want it this way.

(You should definitely be following Brian on Twitter).

In 2005 the Democrats led by Harry Reid filibustered John Bolton's nomination to be Secretary of State. Now the GOP is just rolling over to let this clearly unqualified, anti-Semitic nut job run the Defense Department.

What good is the GOP at this point? At the very least it's time for conservatives to de-enroll from the party. We can figure out what comes next later.

For me??? I registered independent right after Bush created the DHS... because the historic outcome of such a Department is not only predictable, but almost a certainty.

In the past, we had competing law enforcment... ie... the FBI was a check on power of State Cops... ATF was independent of FBI... Marshall's Service... could raid the FBI if needed...

We also used to have competing Intelligence services... where the CIA was not in the same group as Military Intelligence.... so one COULD be used to counteract the other at need...

Heck... the whole reason the Secret Service, a group set up to counter Couterfiting was put in charge of the Prezzy security, was because they did not trust the FBI at that point...

Now??? Everything is under on roof.... and it was a REPUBLICAN President, in the name of Protecting us, who created this monster...

Ultimately, I don't think it matters from a practical standpoint, because Obama will run defense as he se's fit . But it certainly matters on a political level. This to me is like the Doolittle raid. The psychological victory is more important than the actual practical outcome. Why not use this as an opportuntity to defeat Obama, or show him you will not cave on everything. Give your base something to rally around.

Please provide for me coherent, non-structural reasons why my time and treasure should be spent supporting the GOP on the national level when the GOP on the national level is actively working against the positions in which I believe. Note that the GOP on the national level is not merely being neutral towards my beliefs, it is working against them. Explain why I should continue to owe the GOP on the national level any type of allegiance.

Related: Please provide an example of any actions, not words, actions, taken by the GOP on the national level within the last 180 days which demonstrate that the GOP on the national level is advancing conservative ideals.

Senate Democrats will not have enough votes by Friday to confirm former Sen. Chuck Hagel as Defense secretary.

Republican leaders in the Senate have told Senate Democrats they will withhold enough votes to prevent a 60-vote majority that would end debate on Hagel and allow a final vote, according to a Senate Democratic leadership aide.

The move means Hagel will not be confirmed until at least after the Presidents Day recess, and that he will not be able to travel to a NATO meeting next week where the Afghanistan war will be discussed.

McCain, who does not support Hagel’s nomination but is opposed to filibustering a Cabinet nominee, had wanted to hold off on a vote until he received more information from the White House on last year’s fatal attacks at a U.S. facility in Benghazi, Libya.

The White House’s response, dated Feb. 14, 'largely satisfied my concerns about that, but other senators have other concerns,' McCain said. 'I’m hopeful that we can work out agreement to have the vote as soon as we get back. I don’t believe that we need a 60-vote margin.'"

what makes this GOP handwringing about precedent in this instance so lame is that it's not like Hagel's even someone who's massively popular with Democrats outside the base. if they stonewalled there'd be a day of bitching about "GOP obstructionism" and then everyone'd shrug as Obama moved to the next person.

It's already here. Just because the progressive media machine isn't reporting on it doesn't mean it hasn't already had a dire effect on our military. The Army has already shut down non-critical travel. Naval carrier groups are being dismantled (they can't even buy fuel). Our presence in the Persian Gulf is being gutted.

Weird... removing carrier battle groups from where they put pressure on Iran. Nominating and confirming Chuck "I made my millions slaughtering companies and offshoring jobs in private equity and Barack Obama loves me" Hagel, who is on record refusing to put pressure on Iran. John "I wish Russia would call me back" Kerry nominated, refuses to do more than send postcards to Iran with stern warnings.

Believe me, it's tempting. But in my state I have to be a party member to vote in the primaries. I may be done with the GOP on a national level, but not locally. A man walking the beach stumbles upon an ornate bottle. He rubs it, and a genie appears.

"To show my gratitude for freeing me from this bottle, I shall grant you one wish. I am all-powerful. I can grant anything you desire, but you have only one wish. Choose wisely.

The man rubs his chin and finally says, "Ok. This is important. I wish for peace in the middle east."

The genie lowers his head. "Sir. They have been at war for generations. Their hatred for each other is monumental. I am sorry, but that wish is too difficult. Even I cannot grant it. Please, make a different wish."

"Well, ok. I wish my wife would give me a blow job."

The genie thinks for a moment, then says, "What was that about the middle east?"

245 The Israeli-Palestinian situation has always had exactly one solution: The total absolute undisputed domination from victory of one side over the absolute abject humiliated, defeated, and abjectly demoralized and just plain BROKEN other side.

Lasting peaces do not come from negotiations, only endless stalemates do. War leads to peace. This is an unfortunate yet impossible-to-deny historical reality.

So really, all there is left to do in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is to choose a side. By trying to be "peacemaker" for all the decades instead of throwing 100% of our support behind Israel (and if you can't understand why we shouldn't do this with the only genuine democracy with Judeo-Christian values in the region, kindly fuck off), the United States has done two terrible things: We have elevated the Palestinians to some kind of moral equivalency with Israel (which they do not deserve), and as a result of that we have made support for the Palestinian terrorists politically palatable (as evidenced by Hagel's confirmation and, frankly, Obama's Presidency), when in a sane world it would be a career-ender.

We will lose 2014, we will lose 2016. We will lose 2018. We will probably all be killed by these new americans by 2020 for being infidels.

So what. And even if that doesn't come true, Amnesty will become Reconquista and the DNC will become the PRI.

A real SECOND party will lose electorally, but so will the Institutional Republicans; if only because of vote fraud, not to mention the Institutionals' lack of balls. However, a real SECOND party will offer a point of coalescence during the interesting times to come, and afterwards.By the way, I left the Republicans on January 2; after the Republican surrender on the Fiscal Cliff January 1 and before the Republican surrender on the Debt Ceiling, where they promised to really, really fight this time for either the Continuing Resolution or the budget that the Democrats will not introduce.

I'm not advocating for a third party, but I'm not convinced it would be the worst thing ever either. It wouldn't surprise me if it did happen. History has a way of repeating itself. Not exactly but in a lot of similar ways.

407 It is the same group of senators every time, yet no one has seriously tried to primary any of them.

----

Well damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I think we finally have one secret (well not so secret) weapon. Ted Cruz. Obviously, his term is still very young, but with him, you have someone with the passion, the energy, and the brilliance to articulate conservatism and more importantly actually fight for conservatism. Whether, he has Presidential ambitions, I don't know, but so far he is not letting that get in the way of fighting for what is right. His efforts may pay off with Hagel. Still hoping.

409 There is a widespread misconception that conservatives have common ground with the GOP. We don't.

We believe in principled small government. They believe in sharing power with communists.

410 Yep. Hence Libertarian. I still get to vote for the same lame GOP'ers. If I want.

Admire is not the right word, but, the Democrats wield the Power when they get it. GOP not so much.

Well, I called my senators and told them what for. Things should be cool now.

412 What good is the GOP at this point? At the very least it's time for conservatives to de-enroll from the party. We can figure out what comes next later.

Just gone and dun it on line at CA SecState's page. I'd been meaning to for a loooooong time. Thanks for the reminder.

What's with this 'we' shit? Got a mouse in your pocket? I think you're wrong about the Republican Party being incompatible with conservatives, as I think Drew is wrong for continually agitating for a break from the GOP. Calling for a party split and then saying, 'We'll figure it out from there,' is just plain bad thinking, unadorned bullshit.

The Libertarian Party and the Libertarian Party's positions are emphatically not conservative--unless, of course, the meaning of 'conservativism' is warped and twisted beyond all recognition in order to allow it to fit that particular hole.

415 Ironically, the RINO coalition still doesn't get it. You're purists too.
.
Playing the Dem game of pointing at someone else and describing yourself.
.
The GOP is afraid of losing power, thus compromise and kowtowing. Th conservatives are afraid of losing more freedom, and their country, thus taking a hard line against failed policies.
.
Thus the split, thus failure is assured. Unfortunately for the GOP, further kowtowing also leads to failure.
.
It's getting too stupid to watch.

416 I've been wondering if I should leave the Republican party. Maybe this is it, I dunno.

417 Drew you make a good point but Bolton wasnominated for UN Ambassador not Secretary of State thats a pretty biggoof all things considered you should correct it and make note of it.

Hard to call anyone a RINO when you don't even consider yourself a Republican, wouldn't you say?

419 401 Because when you do, you get shit on by the same people bitching that nothing ever changes.

As long as the replacements are better, I have no problem with primarying Rs in solid red states.

421 I am tired of this "leave the party " stuff.

There is no magic bullet for getting your way on all of these issues.

Conservatives are the minority in this country. Plus we have a culture of people who like celebrity and do not understand the issues.

I think it is going to be a long, hard slog to even get near to the power we had 10 years ago. Dividing into separate camps doesn't help, but obviously a lot of people feel differently.

Well, I am sticking with the GOP because I do not see how a third party will accomplish anything but give the democrats power for a generation. A third party will not have the state infrastructure. Will the third party have mayors and town councils? Secretaries of state? Governors? Senators or Congressmen? NO and no.

So basically third party people think that they are SO right that the GOP will just hand over all of their grass roots people and organizations to support someone who is not a member of the GOP.

I don't think that will work. But if there is a plan, you guys had better get busy, as there is less than 4 years until the next presidential election.
